Was thinking about this in the Pats game thread - T&R need to talk Pats / Mac misery (Fred’s favorite topic), Jrue to the C’s (Rich will be flipping) and Wakefield tomorrow, in and around the rest of the NFL and the Sox season ending. It’s going to be whiplash.

WCYY in Portland abruptly ended their syndication of the show. Similar to the BCN setup, they're an alternative rock station and have been doing it for a year or two. Not sure what's up. They previously aired a horrendous national morning zoo show (Woody and Wilcox), but now they're going back to music.

I don’t even know if we’re still have an EEI affiliate, but I think so. The local sports radio show is absolute bottom of the barrel, with unscreened, asinine callers, so I’m surprised toucher and Rich didn’t catch on.

I remember "Free Beer & Hot Wings" being popular with the same demo that would listen to T&R.

Lockhart's Mambo #5 of Stephen A Smith's obsession with GILFs was top quality. I've been laughing all day about it.

https://www.nbcsportsboston.com/news/nbc-sports-boston-announces-celtics-preseason-coverage-and-talent-lineup-for-2023-24-season/557066/

NBC Boston hired a play by play guy to handle all of the road games. Usually Sean Grande would slide over to TV and Wallach would get the radio gig. Wonder if Wallach is totally out of the Celtics picture?

@Chad Finn can you add any details here? Is Wallach done with the Celtics outside of a fill in here or there when Grande is doing Bellator?
That stinks if true. Been looking forward to the trickle down effect of Ryan Johnston taking over for Wallach at the flash position by this time next year.

I'd imagine Grande looks for other jobs if this is true. I don't see him being the radio C's guy for a career. He had some podcast earlier this year where he mentioned how much he liked the TV side of it and brought a different better energy to the broadcast, which seemed like a dig at Gorman.

Grande seems like a complete weirdo at times.

It's true, guys.

"NBC Sports Boston’s live-game coverage will once again be led by play-by-play announcer Mike Gorman -- who is entering his 43rd and final season in this role -- and analyst Brian Scalabrine, who spent five of his 11 NBA playing seasons with the Celtics and is entering his ninth full-time season with NBC Sports Boston. NBC Sports Boston Celtics sideline reporter Abby Chin will also return and be on-site for every game. NBC Sports Boston will also welcome Drew Carter to the broadcast team this season as a play-by-play commentator for all Celtics preseason and regular season road games. Carter, a native of Minnesota with roots in Boston, has spent the last several years calling games for ESPN across a variety of sports."

Lifshatz in studio today, with Kendra dressed.....as a furry?

Entire first segment is talking about last week. Rich was clearly trolling Lifshatz and Dan didn't catch it and was super uncomfortable.

Will be curious how much they keep it going after the break

That segment was unintentionally hilarious. I kind of understand Dan being upset about Fred from last week, but the guy also can’t take a joke or a rib.

I feel for Wallach, and Grande. Hiring a 25 year old to take over the PxP duties is 100% a cost-cutting move. They're happy to get Gorman's salary off the books, and they don't want to give Grande a raise on top of his base (which I assume is already very good given his longevity) to go to TV.

This is the media biz in 2023 = find the cheapest, most-minimally acceptable person for the job.

I was so sure that the Celtics were going to swing for the fences for the new TV guy. Just more evidence that I have no idea what I'm talking about. ;)

Wallach was bummed this morning. I am not sure how much he wanted to get into it, as it didn't seem like he wanted to complain while doing his current job

I thought the segment was horrible. Just terrible radio. I agree DL can't take a joke, but Fred always has to act like such a victim. The whole thing was very unfunny.

I feel bad for Wallach as well, but selecting young/cheap talent for a new generation of fans and players was very predictable.

I wonder how bummed Ryan Johnston is? He filled in a ton last year for Wallach while he went on C’s road trips. Now that doesn’t even appear to be happening, and the possibility of getting permanent flash gig is obviously gone for good.

Any segment with Dan is terrible. He very clearly reads twitter/chat rooms/whatever, parrots back what he’s told and disdains anyone that isn’t in the know or that doesn’t immediately thank him for bestowing upon them his amazing sports knowledge. I really wish they’d just end it.

Did they talk about it? Was he interviewed for the job (in case Grande got the gig), or did he know this was coming?
Rich talked to Wallach a bunch about how he was feeling. Wallach said he was genuinely hoping to get the gig and was disappointed (you could feel the emotion in his voice), though at the same time saying it wasn't a total loss because he was happy in his spot on the morning show. His dream job has always been to call Cs games since he was a kid and now that's likely not possible since these guys work for like 30 years in the role.
I wasn't listening that closely but don't think he said he got interviewed, just felt that given his prior service he was going to be a serious candidate for the full time gig if it opened up.
Wife was also happy that he wouldn't be going on 10 day road trips multiple times a year.

I just watched the replay of it on Twitch. I'm pretty impressed on how Fred and Rich handled it. The new guy is definitely a DA Clone aka Syracuse Boy, but didn't crap over him personally and said they have no idea who he is but the trend is that it's cheap and were sympathetic to both Grande and Wallach.

You can go to the Dan L stuff and think Fred hates everyone, this was the most real Fred I've seen in awhile and I'm glad they brought it up and talked to Wallach about it. I think they handled it perfectly.

I didn't catch the Dan stuff, but I agree they handled the Wallach stuff well. It wasn't the right moment to give him grief and Fred was really supportive - almost moreso than Rich. I'll never meet Wallach, but I've listened to him so much over the years that I can't help but feel awful for the guy. It's pretty bullshit in my opinion and I'm glad they didn't really joke around with it.

Kind of wild that last winter Rich talked how Syracuse is essentially a puppy mill for cheap broadcasters.

Lifshatz 100% just pulls things out of the air (I know, I know, duh). But this morning I got into the car to get a coffee and his show with Kendra was on. First thing I heard was him say “Will Anderson has been mediocre at best” - Anderson is the monster the Texans traded for in the draft. I don’t claim to know a whole lot about d-line play, but I do listen to multiple NFL podcasts a week with actual experts and I have heard nothing but absolute praise for Anderson. So hearing him say that stopped me in my tracks. Most people who are in the know seem to think the Texans finally hit a home run with Stroud and Anderson. But Lifshatz calls him “mediocre.” I know it doesn’t even matter but it just really irks me someone like him is on the radio saying things that from all accounts are just completely false, with no merit.

He’s trying to get clicks and make a name for himself. If he’s one of the thousands of people saying Anderson is really good, he’s just another dude. But if he says he sucks, he gets some heat. And if Anderson craters he can squeeze some juice out of being one of the first to say he stunk.

As if it really matters.

Being a sports personality is such a transparent, boring grift.

The show needed Rich today. He could have wrung some entertainment out of the Pats plight. Annoying day for him to be out.

No Livshatz today. Just Kendra and the three. Feel free to catch the podcast if you want to hear 3 dudes in their 50s quizzing a kind of attractive woman (dressed in a jaguar onesie) about her personal life.

Fred and Wallach teased this when they went to break before her segment, and I immediately said "nope" and did Spotify for the rest of my commute. This segment is officially one I will skip each week unless you all comment here that something new and entertaining starts coming out of it.

I didn't listen today, but in past weeks when they had Middleton on I just wanted to grab each of the three of them and say "Dude, be cool".

It's uncomfortable.

Huh, Mike Giardi basically saying that DeVante Parker sucks. I wonder if that'll make things a little uncomfortable in the locker room?

The beginning of the show was rough. Older middle aged guys complaining about the use of social media and how old people use it...is not entertaining.
It's 6am to 630. They're saving real topics for when people listen. The first half hour is always garbage, by design

Name another show that can follow up a HOF Fart Court session with the HOF announcer of the Celtics flawlessly, you cant!

Also - Gorman plays into the bit in a deadpan fashion, the guy is a pros' pro.
