His batting line as a 24 year old in his final season in Cuba was marginally better than Yoan's (who was 17). I'm not sure why this is a shocking development. His rank in OPS in the CNS, with Jose Abreu and Yoenis for comparison:

I never quite understood the bidding war (and it's obvious why the Yankees stayed out), and the contract was pretty insane, but hopefully AAA is the right spot for him to work on his game and develop into Cespedes-light. It's quite a bit to spend on a
fourth outfielder which appears to be his upside at this point, but the money is already spent.
