Sad news, part of those very good Patriots teams in the mid to late 1970's and a key part of that great offensive line they had.

Hard for some to believe, but the Patriots actually had a team prior to 2001.

R.I.P. Sam.

My first thought was the other offensive lineman Sam Adams who never played with the Patriots. 67 seemed a bit old for him though.

There's a reason for that

His son, also named Sam Adams, played for Texas A&M. He joined the Seahawks in 1994 and his NFL career through 2007 included stops in Baltimore, Oakland, Buffalo, Cincinnati and Denver

Sam was part of that great offensive line in 1978 that paved the way for an NFL team rushing record of 3165 yards. That is a ridiculous number. I really enjoyed those late 70's Pats team.

Man that team was loaded.  Adams, Gray and Hannah on the line, Sam Bam Cunningham running behind them with Grogan throwing to Russ Fall Down Francis and Stanley Morgan.  Plus Clayborn and Haynes as the starting CBs (the Browner and Revis of their day) and Steve Nelson manning the middle.  That was the first Patriots team I cared about and it helped that they pulled me out of the BFD doldrums as well.

RIP Sam you are remembered and missed.
