I've been to a number of Sea Dogs games this year, per usual. There's some talent worth watching here and there. Dan McGrath has somehow only given up 72 hits in 112 innings, via some kind of voodoo smoke and mirrors - don't think I've seen him over 88 in the two starts I've watched. Durran is crazy fast and just watching him rip down the first base line a couple times a game is pretty fun. And CJ Chatham was in the top 5 for Eastern League batting average before his callup (still under .300, but the whole league is hitting something like .243, so it's a low bar).
Marcus Wilson is pretty interesting. There are at-bats where he looks AWFUL, like he can't tell fastball from a curve, but then he runs into one and you can see the potential.
I think the Dogs do really well with the cards they're dealt. They do a ton of promotions, give huge amounts of time to non-profits, and put on a great event for the family every time.
But, yeah, the Sox farm system is beyond empty. The catching position is embarrassing, especially. For years, we've been following at least one future star - but hard to see one anywhere on the Dogs this year.
