I was of the opinion that getting rid of the away goal rule might make the games slightly less entertaining. I was wrong.
Yeah, I am 100% with you. I liked it and the idea of a single goal going from defeat to victory rather than draw/victory, but this has got to be the greatest quarter finals we've ever seen.

Arsenal are really going to regret not even getting shots after all of these opportunities in front of the Bayern net.

Bayern's defending within their own box has been very good. Arsenal have generated some pressure on that end, but not a ton of truly great chances to score.

You can replace “Bayern” with “Real” and “Arsenal” with “City” and it’s still true.

It's not happening for City at the moment. I wonder if they should take off Haaland, this doesn't seem like his match. Maybe City should go old school false nine City. Madrid look comfortable, like AC MIlan of yore.

Straight off the bat you can see that Modric rocks the head band in a way Grealish never can. I've never seen Modric put it on before, but they lingered on him as he donned it.

I'm glad City scored.

That last free kick notwithstanding, I thought Saka was really poor today. Season took a real turn in the last four days.

Arsenal could have been a bit more direct in those last 4 minutes. Sometimes you have to just get it in the box, win second balls.

Dunno if the super quick free kick take was the correct option right at the end.

Arsenal really lacked a sense of physicality on the attacking end. Players like Havertz just felt like they were too easily knocked off the ball and didn't create the kind of trouble that they should have given the kind of width Arsenal were getting.

Holy shit. Amadou Onana, you're off the hook for the worst pen I've seen. Bernardo, that was putrid.

Madrid fans will be unbearable for a while now. They advance while their two biggest rivals get bounced. Oh, and there’s a Clásico this weekend.

Really impressed by Madrid over the 2 legs. They had a plan and executed it well. I didn’t expect Real Madrid to be so willing to suffer but they did it fantastically. Ancellotti was smart to leave Akanji essentially free and focus on keeping other covered and it basically worked. This has been a leaky City side all season and they really bunkered down and got the job done

Booo. Liverpool might have found an advantage in bouncing out of the Europa League if Arsenal and city advanced. Might have. The boys are looking plenty cooked right now.

Hope I'm wrong but City to win the league seems highly likely now.

Edited to "highly likely." Hope springs eternal.

Not a very good four days for the Arsenal.

But Tuchel is an excellent cup manager and Bayern have as good a CL pedigree as any club outside of Madrid. We didn't get beat by nobodies and they deserved to win in the end.

Keeper penalties are the best.
They are, but the other 6 Man City field players...I mean, it's not like Ederson has anything else to concentrate on at the moment.

They could've left Haaland in just for PKs. They could've bossed possession with him just standing there.
