There's a non-zero chance that Lewis Miley was the best midfielder involved in a Chelsea transaction this summer.

I see the confusion now. Lewis Hall is the one that came from Chelsea and he’s been kinda meh so far. Lewis Miley is a home grown academy product, baby!

I dunno what is and isn't a penalty these days. The one given to PSG looked really soft. Chest to elbow, nowt the Newsatle player could do.

Yeah, I have not fully processed the Lewis name boomlet in England.

Supposedly there is guidance to officials somewhere that deflection from another part of the body onto the arm/hand is not handball. It didn't filter down to the refs in the sport's biggest (club) showcase.

Garnacho gets his first Champions League goal amidst a cacophony of whistles.

Oh wow Bruno with a stunner - Utd aren't mucking about.

Sergio Ramos opens the scoring in Seville against PSV in a big game to decide who will join Arsenal in going through.

Sevilla will somehow finish third in the group because that’s what they do.

Ziyech given a gift by Onana who inexplicably guessed on a free kick and let a changeup go straight through the middle of the goal. That was horrid goalkeeping.

Hakim Ziyech pulls one back with a well placed free kick through the gap in the wall vacated by his own players.

I wonder if the keeper did his best work there.

Sevilla almost grab a second (disallowed by VAR) then nearly a third (hit the woodwork) in quick succession. Chucky picks up a knock. Not ideal for all of us USMNT fans.

McTominay gets Utd's third, back to a two goal advantage.

Onana has had a mare there - Ziyech with the free kick and Onana's made a mess of it.

Lucas Ocampos gets a second yellow, pretty unfortunately, and the game gets interesting.

And just like that PSV get one back. Basically a no look volley by Saibari assisted by Dest. 2-1 Sevilla.

And PSV level it 2-2. Looks like both games are drama filled.

Pepi comes on for PSV which puts three Yanks on the pitch for a Champions League game.

I caught the last 30min of Braga/Union and if you had me guess which team had ten before I knew, I absolutely would have gotten it wrong.

Bump for MD6, with groups A-D all in action. Group B gets things started at 12:45pm ET, and the rest kicking off at 3pm.

Today and tomorrow are some of the best days in the football calendar. LFG!

I’m about to head out to Olympiastadion for my last Champions League match for a while…who knows, maybe ever. Hoping against hope for a win vs Real Madrid and a win from Napoli, playing SC Braga at home. Need wins, a draw from Napoli won’t cut it due to the tiebreaker, unfortunately.

Braga needs to beat Napoli to advance in the UCL, so hoping this leaves them open to conceding.

A quick summary of today's scenarios (only for CL knockout stages).

Group A
Bayern has clinched the group and play ManU who has 4 points
Copenhagen and Galatasaray who each have 5 points play each other.
Man U needed help anyway, but pretty fortunate spot with Bayern conceivably resting the team.

Group B
Arsenal has clinched the top spot and play PSV Eindhoven who barring extenuating circumstances has clinched the second spot.
Lens and Sevilla play and Lens could advance if they beat Sevilla and make up a 4 goal differential with PSV losing to Arsenal.

Group C
Real has clinched the top spot and take on @candylandriots Union Berlin.
Braga can advance by beating Napoli by two goals.

Group D
Real Sociedad plays Internazionale. Both have advanced, but the winner takes first in the group. A draw and it goes to Real Sociedad.

Bayern got thrashed over the weekend so they might not be taking it as easy as might be expected, and Man U needs a W. I'm not convinced that will happen. I expect either pissed off starters or hungry backups looking to grab their chance to be on the field for Bayern.

Pepi and Tillman get the start for PSV against Arsenal which is great from a USMNT perspective. In the other game, Sevilla need a win to get into the Seville Invitational, aka the Europa League. France/Lens has already stated that no Sevilla fans are allowed at the game, which honestly is a trash decision. If Sevilla don't win, their entire season is looking pretty bleak and they'll almost certainly be on to their third coach of the campaign.

Alguicil will probably heavily rotate the Sociedad lineup. They've been one of the smartest clubs over the last few years, and I don't expect them to waste players in a relatively meaningless game knowing that they have a huge game against Betis on Sunday. Ditto Inter who go to Lazio. For my money, La Real have been the most fun team to watch this season, like Napoli was last season, but even I might pass on watching this one. Who am I kidding? I'll probably still watch it.

Flipped on Union-Madrid.

Union needs to get a few touches on the ball here, slow things bit. Madrid with more than 75% of the ball and 200 more passes completed. Union players already getting run into the ground.

Edit: the Union fans are killing it, though. They haven't stopped singing since the kick off. And I think I hear @candylandriots sonorous tenor in there.

Maguire's pulled up and subbed off with what might be a groin inury. Evans on in his place.

Bayern are kinda coasting through the match as you'd expect. If they wanted to they could up the intensity, but why bother. They're having loads of joy on the right.

Absolutely bonkers - Modric has a PK saved and on the ensuing corner, Union break out and score! The stadium has lifted off the ground. Incredible stuff.

Omg. It actually felt relatively quiet until that sequence and wow. I’m outta breath.

Napoli is doing its job too!

That was an absolutely wild ride. Incredible that you were there for it!
It was a lot of fun and I’m so glad I got to experience it. But this sport is so cruel.

I’m a much better adjusted sports fan (and person, I suppose) thanks to 2004.

This is still kinda sad. But happy. Going toe-to-toe with Real Madrid? Couldn’t have imagined that within 20 years when I started following this team in 2015. I have to keep reminding myself of that.

Update on where we stand after today’s games:

Bayern and Copenhagen go to the knockout stages. Galatasary to the Europa League, which means Man U is out of Europe.

Arsenal and PSV go through. Lens won so Sevilla are out of Europe.

Real Madrid remained perfect and Napoli go. Sadly Union Berlin are out of Europe. Braga to the Europa League.

Sociedad won group D (the next minute they trail will be the first minute they trail this year) and Inter also make the knockouts. Benfica go to the Europa League and Di Maria scored an Olympico.

For tomorrow, Group E is totally settled and Group G only has an undecided Europa League entrant. Group H has Barca through while Porto and Shaktar will play to join them or go to the Europa League. Group F, the Group of Death, still has a ways to go. Dortmund advances but that’s all we know.

From a USMNT perspective, Tillman played a great game against Arsenal, Pepi got an assist, and Dest took a man’s soul.

Dortmund up 1-0 on PSG. In order to avoid getting bounced from the Knockout stages, PSG either needs two goals or for Milan to tie it up.

Fake Edit: And PSG gets one back.
