Someone can tell me if there's a better way to embed:

https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/165z7qi/omar_mendoza_queretaro_red_card_for_putting_his/

Also, De Jong deserves his own post rather than being lumped in with any compilation, even if it was a yellow (still astonishing to this day):

Easily the play that made me the maddest of all time (he earned the roja directa):

One of the most memorable, Leonardo elbows Tab Ramos viciously in the '94 world cup:

Zidane headbutt on Materrazzi:

Voller-Riijkaard spitting double red in WC '90:

Rooney stomps on a guy's dick:

In fact, a Rooney compilation is worthwhile here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REBIYtObgTQ

Probably the single most polarizing soccer moment on 'Gazza, the Luis Suarez handball (FF to 2:25):

Holy shit, I've never seen the Newcastle double red for fighting...with each other!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FtcBH30DmM

And we have to include Roy Kent Keane on any red card list, so let's go with when he intentionally (his own words) injured Erling Haaland's dad:

the Zidane headbutt shouldn't be lumped in with the rest of those vicious assaults, solely because Matarazzi 100% deserved it. I don't think it changed the game's result, France wasn't scoring in what remained of extra time and the shootout is the same shootout. But the French had Zizou's back on that one, to this day. They even made a statue of it entitled "headbutt" and put it up at the Pompidou Centre!

now THAT is a legendary red card, by which we might measure all others. Like Hans Gruber said to Mrs. McClain, who had called him "nothing but a common thief": "no, I am an exceptional thief". The rest of these are nothing but common acts of thuggery or poor decision-making.

Well, the thread started with Cantona kicking a Nazi, which is ALWAYS good decision-making.

Can't embed, but here's a Facebook video of some classic Sean Dyche.

I agree that match was going to penalties either way, and it was a disappointing way to end the game, but I have trouble agreeing that Materazzi deserved it. I think guys try to provoke other guys all the time, with insults much worse than implying they would like to screw their sister. Materazzi was a Bill Lambier level pest, and the Azzurri in general were about as unseemly as you can get. But Zidane needed to keep his head (to himself). That game was too big for him to let a guy bait him like that. So, I'll go with understandable, but not deserved.
