My wife and I went to Maui on our honeymoon 10 years ago, and we loved it there and she's been after me to go back ever since. When Shane hit that granny against the Tigers in the ALCS she told me that they're dancing on the streets of Maui and that they'll be having a ticker tape parade on the road to Hana when he gets back. She even got me a Victorino Red Sox player tee shirt to wear around Kaanapali.

Thanks Shane, like many others have said 2013 wouldn't have happened without you.

Mahalo and lets go Angels!

“@PeteAbe: Victorino said he would not use “Three Little Birds” as his at-bat song again out of respect for Boston fans. Really broke down crying then”

Love Shane.

I was watching that ALCS game alone, in the attic. I almost brought the house down (my wife said), so hard was I jumping after that home run. Injuries derailed his time here, but those memories will survive, time and time again. Just for that, 3/$39 was worth it.

What, were you banished to the attic for destroying the TV room after Big Papi's second game home run or something?  :)

I loved Shane and it's about all been said here already. One point:I was impressed with the great shape he got himself into for this season, really strong looking upper body, in spite of the other physical problems he had last year. But I guess he's always kept himself in the best possible shape. I have no problems with the Angels, so stay healthy and kick some ass  down there, Shane!

One last thought: someone above said Koji on the mound and a flyball to right were the two most calming things about 2013. Forgot a ground ball to second base, I guess.

Fenway never sounded better than when Victorino came to bat. By the last game of the World Series, the fans were singing the chorus with brio.

You know, this is really true, and worth "this"-ing. The cool thing about the "Three Little Birds" singalong was that, unlike Sweet Caroline, it had no slightest fingerprint of marketing on it. It was never part of the entertainment product. It sprang up spontaneously as a shared experience between player and fans. That's a rare and precious thing.

Thank you, Shane, for all of 2013. Admired you before you were on the Sox, loved you when you were part of the team, wish you all the best on the road ahead.

Shane Victorino had a magnificent 2013 season. So much so that I don’t really care what he did in 2014, or has done so far this year. He had a metric ton of big hits during the regular season. Metric ton, of course, being the official measurement of value for emotional fans who don’t give a crap about WAR-to-dollar ratios during one of the most incredible, improbable, and emotional rides a team has ever taken a fanbase on in any sport at any time. He also played impeccable defense and had several huge hits in the postseason, including one of the most memorable at-bats in Red Sox history.

Shane is a class act off the field as well.  He is personally involved in his foundation. I am honored to be a part of his Maui celebration/fundraiser every year.  He has been an exceptional role model for my nephew who has been playing in the Cape Cod League this summer.  Shane has had him over to the house for BBQ, taken him to a concert in Boston and hooked him up with tickets at Fenway.  His family is exceptional as well, his mom and dad are very active in the community. Dad, Mike is a county Council member and is probably more popular on Maui than Shane!

My nephew (SS for Oregon Ducks), Marcus Mariota and Shane this past November after a U of Oregon Ducks football game.  Took all the kids from Hawaii out to dinner in Eugene.
