A report just came through MLB.com that Steven Wright had knee surgery and is preparing to pitch next season. That doesn't sound like Opening Day to me. He can't be planned on for next season.
Brian Johnson got creamed on Saturday too. Not putting too much stock in it though.Hector Velazquez getting bounced around in Japan (live)
I think Wright is headed for a glorified swingman/rover role the next two years, like McHugh, Devenski and Peacock have been used in Houston. Imagine having to face Eovaldi or Edro for 5-6 innings, then Wright, then Barnes/TK to close.2019 rotation is obviously loaded to the rafters, but 2020 isn’t bad either: Price, EO, Edro, Wright and next man up.
Wright would probably only be pitching the one inning so for most of the guys, it won't matter, but if the meat of the opposition comes up in the 7th, it will be a beautiful thing.I think Wright is headed for a glorified swingman/rover role the next two years, like McHugh, Devenski and Peacock have been used in Houston. Way I see it, we still need two more guys under contract for 2020.
I seriously doubt Brewer fails to make the 25-man unless he bombs in ST. With a 93 mph cutter and extreme groundball tendencies, he's a great fit for this bullpen.5 starters
Hembree, Johnson, Wright (Velazquez riding the shuttle again for Wright’s DL trips) become the 10th, 11th and 12th men
Barnes, Brasier are the 8th and 7th inning righthanders.
That’s 10.
Need a closer, and another 7th/8th inning guy, preferably lefty.
Talk about burying the lede. Some guy named Pedro is driving this train.Per the article linked below, Sale is tutoring ERod on his slider.
