I'm not going to not say that was a disaster of a post.Do you have an extra "not" in there?
I don't have the highest opinion of Jeannie Buss, but I'm also shocked that she's this moronic. I don't think there's a nicer way to put it--the evidence suggests that she's a very dumb human being.I'm not going to not say that was a disaster of a post.
It's been beaten to death elsewhere in this thread, but it's appalling that the Lakers can't figure out how to get this team on the right path. They need to divorce themselves of the idea that there is some sort of Lakers mystique or exceptionalism and go out and hire the best people. Get rid of Pelinka, find a real GM and then hire the best coaching candidate available. We have 4.5 years of data on Jason Kidd and none of it is very good. They have the money, resources and connections to do so much better.
She has a lot of friends in the media though; which made the the “media is our biggest problem” speech even odder.I don't have the highest opinion of Jeannie Buss, but I'm also shocked that she's this moronic. Odd, but not surprising. She's incompetent and desperately casting around for scapegoats. She has a lot of friends in the media though; which made the the “media is our biggest problem” speech even odder.
He's not the only one saying it.Because Bill Simmons pulled that out of his ass while also erroneously claiming that Myers is from LA?
1. Myers is from the Bay Area and grew up a Warriors fan.
Kemba Walker is not a fan of this post.Besides the history and the cachet, why would a top FA who wants to live in LA choose the Lakers over the Clippers? The Clippers now have a way better ownership, front office, coach, and roster.
For wings like Kawhi and KD, if they want to play in LA, the Clippers have to be a strong draw. They have around $60 million in cap space, with Gallo's $22m expiring contract on the books for next year, Lou Williams ($8m) and Montrezl Harrell ($6m) both with crazy production off the bench for cheap money, and three promising rookies in SGA, Shamet, and Jerome Robinson. Put either KD or Kawhi on that team with another FA, add a couple of vet ring chasers, and you have a big time contender.
If the Laker again strike out with AD, and don't get one of the big three K free agents, (KD, Kawhi, Kyrie), even if they sign a second tier FA, they'd be lucky to be a four seed in the West, assuming LBJ stays healthy and Ingram's arm and career doesn't go Bosh-y.
To quote PC Drunken Friar "please explain."Of course Kliq would say that.
Oh, I just thought it would be more clever. I'll lower my InstaFace post expectations in the future*sigh* your username also starts with a K.
Back to the drawing board.
Meh, it's a solid groundball single through the 5.5 hole imo.Oh, I just thought it would be more clever. I'll lower my InstaFace post expectations in the future
Jared Dudley says this about Knicks vs NetsBesides the history and the cachet, why would a top FA who wants to live in LA choose the Lakers over the Clippers? The Clippers now have a way better ownership, front office, coach, and roster.
y.
I think the same holds true in re Lakers/Clippers. I can't speak to individual psychology, but I think for some players the way the Knicks or Lakers are historic franchises with rabid fan bases despite losing will matter. For others that the Nets/Clippers are overall in better shape will matter more. But that the Clippers are nonentities in L.A. despite being better for years now means something.Nets veteran Jared Dudley was asked what advantages the Nets would have over the Knicks in free agency (2/4): "Out of 10 pages, they got seven pages (of coverage in a newspaper). That's just how it is. And nothing is going to change there. I don't care, Dolan could burn down Manhattan and they're going to talk about the Knicks, let's be honest. Let's be honest. And so for us, the advantages they have here is, for one, the foundation and the culture we have. And not just in New York and in the NBA, one of the best young cores here. They have draft picks, they have cap space. And I know the Knicks do have cap space and they have a pretty good couple, one or two guys."
Of course they will. Who else would take on this tire fire of a job? When none of the top free agents sign with the Lakers, LeBron’s trip to irrelevance can continue.Adrian WojnarowskiVerified account @wojespn 14m14 minutes ago
The expectation is the Lakers will move toward Ty Lue as head coach, but there's been no offer made to him yet, league sources tell ESPN.
Their rumored no. 1 choice, Monty Williams, took the Phoenix job instead. Someone thought working for Robert Sarver was a better gig than the Lakers. Let that sink in for a moment.Adrian WojnarowskiVerified account @wojespn 14m14 minutes ago

I don’t believe for a second that the Lakers wanted Monty over Lue. If this were the case they would have simply offered him a contract especially once they knew Phoenix was interviewing him. The Lakers are LeBrons team now and we all know who he wants coaching this team moving forward. It’s way too soon to be assuming LeBron is going to be irrelevant in his final 5-6 seasons or so.Their rumored no. 1 choice, Monty Williams, took the Phoenix job instead. Maybe they didn't want him, but the media seemed sure he was the Lakers no. 1 choice and Woj framed it that way in his tweets ("...Lakers will move towards). It definitely seemed like Monty had some leverage on his side to squeeze a five-year contract out of Phoenix. He wasn't exactly a success in his first attempt at being a head coach.I don’t believe for a second that the Lakers wanted Monty over Lue. “@TheSteinLine: Among the issues that have led to a breakdown in talks between the Lakers and Ty Lue: League sources say that the Lakers have been trying to impose their choices for assistant coaches on Lue. @espn first reported the impasse between the Lakers are Lue”LeBron better move on to Plan B.
Negotiations between the Los Angeles Lakers and Ty Lue have reached an impasse without a deal to make him the franchise’s next head coach, league sources tell ESPN. Discussions have included talks on contract and assistant coaching staff, sources said. Among Lakers hopes on a Lue staff: Jason Kidd. He made a strong impression with management in his head coaching interview and had a productive history w/ Bucks developing young talent.
The Rambis family was not the expected answer to this question. what a shitshow....Who's running that team? The front office or Lebron???
IMO the clippers have become the marque team in LA.
I prefer Letters of Reprisal, myself.710 ESPN Radio here in LA (the HOME of the lakers) frequently takes callers. And Oh boy do Laker fans still think this is a marque team and job, and that FA will flock in droves to play for the purple and gold!
What, are you kidding me? That franchise accomplished something that no team has been able to do in 13 years, they singlehandedly kept LeBron from making the playoffs. It amazes me how much of a tire fire that franchise has become. This is getting beyond parody now.
Sign and trade Kyrie for LeBron? #GetItDoneTheoLebron to the Celtics?
Clippers are probably more suited for piracy than the freshwater boats that the Lakers presumably favor.
Does he not know the difference between lead and led?
“@getnickwright: Source: The Buss family & Rob Pelinka signed off on hiring Ty Lue last week. Kurt & Linda Rambis were the only parties opposed, and convinced the Lakers to hold off, which lead to today.”
Kyrie’s coming raise raise makes him a BYC player, so he only counts for ≈ $21 million in a sign & trade scenario, meaning the only possible deal is Irving/Smart for a player that’s just finally shown the effects of aging. Not sure I’d be willing to endure the circus if we’re losing Marcus.Sign and trade Kyrie for LeBron? #GetItDoneTheo
That depends, if Irving and Durant expressed interest in teaming up on the Lakers, they’d trade LBJ to the Knicks in a cocaine heartbeat. And then use the windfall to find more roleplayers to put around them.If LBJ would legit get traded this would be the biggest NBA summer ever by a good stretch. And they actually should, but won’t.
Marc Stein reported over the weekend that Lebron's camp had been pushing for Ty Lue to be coach but that the rest of the front office wanted Monty Williams. When Monty took the Phoenix job they were left with having to take Lebron's guy and didn't like the optics of that. You can tell by their offer to Lue that they took a half measure and weren't really negotiating in good faith. Whatever you think of Lue's ability, coaches with his pedigree get 4-5 years and the ability to pick their own staff. Now they are left looking like idiots for failing to get their first and second choices.Who's running that team? The front office or Lebron???
