Four-team playoff. Team A plays Team B, Team C plays Team D, winners from each game go to the Wildcard Game. What happens in a four way tie? Which is possible now, if Seattle wins tonight.
But how do they decide who 's team A, B, C, or D? Eenie Meenie Miney Mo?Four-team playoff. Team A plays Team B, Team C plays Team D, winners from each game go to the Wildcard Game.

Each team would choose or receive an A, B, C or D designation. The club with the highest winning percentage in games among the tied clubs chooses first, second-highest chooses second, etc. In this scenario, the Red Sox (24-21 against the others) get first choice, the Blue Jays (22-22) choose second, the Yankees (22-23) choose third and the Mariners (9-11) get the leftover spot.
On Monday, Club A (likely the Red Sox) would host Club B, and Club C (likely the Blue Jays) would host Club D. So for the Yankees, it would come down to a choice of traveling to either Boston or Toronto.
I like all the match ups to make that happen. The M's are facing a guy with a 7.11 ERA in 19 innings to start his career, and the Yanks are relying on Taillon (though facing Wacha is a bonus for them).Magical Christmas Land scenario is Sox win, Yanks lose, and Seattle wins, then Seattle beats the Yankees. If the ALDS game 1 can be pushed back a day then adding Toronto to the mix would be advantageous as long as they don't win.
Boston should be ahead of NY based on season H2H tiebreaker. This thread from Passan is nuts: View: https://twitter.com/jeffpassan/status/1444524963172548613?s=21
Aside from a bad start against the Jays, Wacha had a good September, including going 5 no-hit innings against Houston in his last start.I like all the match ups to make that happen. This would result in entirely too many replays of Bucky Fucking Dent.A four way tie would presumably lead to the following on Monday:
Yankees @ Red Sox
Mariners @ Blue Jays

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/10/01/mlb-wild-card-tiebreaker-scenarios/If there’s a four-way tie
Should all four teams finish 91-71, two tiebreaker games will be played Monday to determine the wild-card teams. The teams will get to choose their tiebreaking placement (what MLB is calling the A, B, C and D designation) by virtue of best winning percentage among the games played among the group. Club A would host Club B in one wild-card tiebreaker, and Club C would host Club D in the other, with the winners earning the two wild-card spots and playing Tuesday
In this scenario, the Red Sox, who went 24-21 against the other three teams, would get first choice and almost certainly would choose to host one of the games. The Blue Jays (22-22) would pick next and also almost certainly choose to host the other tiebreaker. The Yankees (22-23) would get third choice and would pick the team, either the Red Sox or Blue Jays, they would like to play. The Mariners (15-17) then would play whomever the Yankees do not pick.
The John Olerud Tournament. Winner should have to play the Mets.A four way tie would presumably lead to the following on Monday:
Yankees @ Red Sox
Mariners @ Blue Jays
Yeah, I was looking at tomorrow’s forecast on weather.gov for Boston and the hourly looks less than promising. Win today and avoid any complications otherwise the playoff schedule starts to look messy.FWIW, the Boston weather forecast for Monday afternoon and evening is NOT conducive for playing baseball. Best win today!
I’d opt for C so they only have to play one game and it’s at home.Three way tie - if you’re the Sox, you opt for being club A, right (host club B, if you lose you travel to club C)? MLB.com makes it sound like there’s something to consider about choosing between A and C.
As Club A, they’d be at home too, right? Then if they win, they’re the 1st wildcard team. If they lose, they have a 2nd chance (against team C to become the 2nd wild card team).I’d opt for C so they only have to play one game and it’s at home.
Club A hosts the first game, and if they win, they host the wildcard game as WC1. Club C would be at home, yes, but would only be playing for WC2. A win there means they go on the road for the wildcard game.I’d opt for C so they only have to play one game and it’s at home.
