There's like 2 people in this thread that seem upset, but 50 posts telling them to relax and stop embarrassing the entire fanbase.

I heard that he had a deal done with SF but they backed out when they heard that he intended to snub the Pats in today’s retirement announcement.

Am I alone in thinking the one-day contract thing is super dumb? How did that even become a thing?
On one hand, it is dumb. On the other: look at this thread.

EDIT: more seriously, it helps Brady maximize his goodwill and it helps Kraft get the Pats in the news in a positive light.

Are we sure BB will even offer enough for Brady to want to sign a one-day contract? And honestly, it's kind of a long commitment to make to someone who already retired.

I wonder if he'll be on Boston talk radio soon, even today (is he good buds with Fauria)? He could also do some damage control on this fallout, even if it's not necessarily warranted

Somewhere
This is all part of a plan to build up suspense - either he's going to do the 1-day contract thing and retire as a Patriot, or he's going to let loose in the final Man in the Arena episode with double-barreled middle fingers towards Kraft and Belichick for all of their slights over the years (Kraft for giving him up to Goddell during Deflategate, Belichick for planning on replacing him since drafting the pretty boy).
I'm not going to lie. I would respect the hell out of that.

Now I'm going to be disappointed when that doesn't happen.

Of course. My point was simply that grown men have meltdowns over sports related things all the time. This is not news.
I'd say they were losing their minds, but I wouldn't want to cross-pollinate with the ESPN thread

Grown men who are in tears over his retirement, and reflexively defend everything he says or does, are the adults who have everything in perspective. Anybody who criticizes him, or even just questions his judgement on anything, are entitled, petulant babies. Good to know.
Who's in tears here? Maybe the strawman you just built.

I'm not defending the guy because he's Brady, I'm laughing at the folks worked up.

I can't wait to see what happens when Bill Belichick retires and thanks Johnny Foxborough before he mentions TB12. Gonna be epic.

It's kinda dumb. But clearly some folks in here need it.
I want it but don't need it. It is totally dumb but again its Tom Brady.

Also, I have no clue if this can or will be done but given that Brady has a contractural relationship with TB, NE could acquire him or he could come back to the Patriots in some other capacity. Its not like he isn't allowed to visit Foxboro if they wanted to do a small, quiet ceremony or something. That said, maybe he isn't going to return and that IG post is all we'll get.

Oh and all the winning.

Agreed. But there's a difference between "how did Welker drop that ball???!!! I could have caught that ball???!!" And "oh noes, Tom doesn't feel that way about me anymore...". Both are meltdowns, but different kinds.

I mean, the number retirement will be next season at some point ... isn't that the proper coda?

I think TB can do contractual things that release him from that relationship.

Me thinks you’ve built the straw men if you claim you haven’t read posts in this thread referencing tears and getting dusty about his retirement. And for the record, I’m not worked up over his not mentioning the pats today, just think it was a dumb mistake given the media furor it’s already caused.

It would be hilarious if he signed a 1 day contract and Belichick put out an injury report with him listed as "Knee - Questionable".

Regardless of the overreaction discussion here ...You work in a field for 22 years, 20 of them spent working for ACME, you built an incredible legacy in the business, you retire and you thank and mention most everyone but ACME? That would be odd. That being said, whatevah.

Maybe he should sign a 1-day contract with the guy who worked with him day after day, season after season, to make him the best he could be.

Unless there's some worry about him making a comeback, they should waive the 5-year period and put him in Canton this summer. Ditto for whatever the Pats Hall of Fame requirements are. Put him in, retire 12 at the home opener (if Brady's schedule allows).
As far as Canton is concerned, no. Others have retired as "the best ever" before him, and there may well be others after him.

Guys - one day contracts aren't real contracts. If a team is at 90 players (roster max) and they sign some retiring guy to a "one day contract", they don't have to cut anyone. There's no cap space requirement. It's just ceremonial - it won't matter if he's under contract with the Bucs.

I doubt the Bucs going to cut him - if he wants to come back in a year (unlikely but possible) obviously they'd want to hold onto his rights. But it doesn't matter for any phony contract he signs with New England, if he even wants that. Like many of us, he may think that's lame as hell.

Even though I'm mostly dreading Belichick's retirement, that dread is at least somewhat offset by looking forward to what THAT thread is going to look like when the time comes.

Kinda hoping Bill does the Canton Induction speech
"Tom was a decent QB…always prepared….practiced hard. Good Game manager. Could make the throws when we needed them. Led the team. Cant ask for more. Ladies and Gentleman Let me introduce HOF inductee Tom Brady."
Then everyone claps awkwardly.
Cut out “a decent quarterback” and I’m with you.

Belichick is gonna give #12 to the guy they draft to replace Cardona.

He will more than likely be under contract until June 2nd when the Bucs will get more cap relief.

As I've said before and will say again, Tom Brady could take a shit in my breakfast and I would eat it with a smile.

If this is that turd, I'm smiling. I could give two shits who he thanks, who he doesn't, if he signs a one day contract, if he doesn't, if he wears a Bucs hat or a Pats hat, none of that matters.

6 fucking Super Bowl wins and some of the best memories of my life with friends and family as a result. That's what matters to me as a fan. I don't need him to say it because he doesn't owe me shit, but I will. Thanks Tom.

And when Cardona thanks Navy, the callers in to the Lunkhead and Ptomaine Show will lose their minds.

A one day contract with incentives. Brady has to say “I’m nothing without Coach Belichick” ten times in the press conference.

Don’t you have to be in the HOF to present someone for their HOF speech, hence Bill can’t present Tom, or am I wrong?

IIRC, Verne Lundquist presented Terry Bradshaw, so I dont think so.

The most amazing thing about the Tom Brady era might not be all his records. It might be that the Red Sox won four World Series titles during that time.
