Believe you mean our northern Manhattan friendsAs a Seattelite, I’d prefer the Washington Districts of Columbians.
or just Columbians as a tribute to our South American friends.

I live in the DC area and have a groundhog/woodchuck in my yard that has managed to survive despite despite not having use of his back legs. I'd like to think he'd be the perfect mascot for the Snyder era WFT if the new name has something to do with groundhogs.
Pretty sure they just purchased a bunch of domain names?
I thought so to but none of the others have had redirects set up that I can tellPretty sure they just purchased a bunch of domain names?
Ah nice sleuthing.I thought so to but none of the others have had redirects set up that I can tell
LinkEarly on we understood Wolves -- or some variation of it -- was one of our fan favorites. As I've said all along, we take feedback from our fans seriously, and because of your interest in this name, we put Wolves on a list of options to explore fully. Once we began looking into Wolves, however, we became aware of a notable challenge: trademarks held by other teams would limit our ability to make the name our own. And without Wolves, variations like RedWolves wouldn't have been viable either for these and other reasons.
What player gets to have uniform number 007?Twitter seems to be saying it will be Commanders.
Pigskins seems to be the local fan-favorite for a hog-oriented name (and maybe an overall favorite replacement name): it has a football connection, a Hogs connection, and allows the familiar 'skins nickname. If that is the direction, I just hope they just go with Washington Hogs rather than RedHogs or BattleHogs or whatever.
Yeah that has been discussed several times in this thread and seems popular.Pigskins seems to be the local fan-favorite for a hog-oriented name (and maybe an overall favorite replacement name): it has a football connection, a Hogs connection, and allows the familiar 'skins nickname.
Use some sort of bad ass, wild boar looking logo like this. Keep the burgundy go more gold than yellow and have the decal facing forward on each side of the helmet.

Could be some PETA trouble with that one. If bullpen outraged them, that really won't go over well. In typical(for them) fashion, they bumble-fucked their way to a very good, unique one with WFT. And will now go away with from that with one of these other lame ideas.Pigskins seems to be the local fan-favorite for a hog-oriented name (and maybe an overall favorite replacement name): it has a football connection, a Hogs connection, and allows the familiar 'skins nickname.
They changed the direct. Maybe it was a red herring all along or maybe they realized it was blowing the surprise I dunnoIt's not redirecting me.
That's not good.Twitter seems to be saying it will be Commanders.
Now I get that charity. But it's a charity based out of Georgia. It's a long shot that Snyder would give a fuck about a charity anyway, but I doubt he'd direct it to one in Georgia. They changed the direct. Reddit: Looked at the US trademark office, and happened to find an interesting approved filing by a major sports licensor and attorney…
If it really is Groundhogs and they announced the announcement date today (1/4), you'd think that they'd have acquired the URL prior to 1/1, wouldn't you? That would fit the Feb 2 announcement date.
If they spent a year doing research to come up with that…well, I guess if Dan Snyder is running the process anything is possible
Or “Groundhogs are afraid of their own shadows, turn it over six times in crushing loss”If it is Groundhogs I can't wait for all the headline writers that think they are clever:
"Groundhogs live up to their name, rush for 170 yards in beating Dallas"
"Groundhogs defy their name, take to the air to beat the Giants"
“The Admirals,” Esiason told Jerry Recco and Gregg Giannotti on their WFAN morning radio show Boomer and Gio. “I’m reporting it’s the Admirals.”
Esiason later added that he’s not breaking the story, but the damage was already done on a 50,000-watt New York radio station with a show that gets nationally televised by CBS Sports Network.
“Do you feel like you shouldn’t have done that?” Gio asked. “I can tell he’s regretting it.”
“Why? I can’t stand that organization anyway!” Esiason fired back. “Who cares, the organization sucks!”
I expect Chris Berman has already cued up Groundhog Day references for losing and winning streaks. If it is Groundhogs I can't wait for all the headline writers that think they are clever:
"Groundhogs live up to their name, rush for 170 yards in beating Dallas"
"Groundhogs defy their name, take to the air to beat the Giants"
This may be true, but as of right now, no one has filed a trademark application for "Washington Admirals" in the US Patent & Trademark Office. (As mentioned above, someone filed to protect "Washington Groundhogs" on Dec 29th.)Looks like it might be The Admirals.

When I hear a generic military term like Admiral my mind doesn't jump to segregation, but DC doesn't strike me as a military town. There's military there, but it's not the same kind of folks that inhabit military towns like Norfolk, Bremerton, Jacksonville, etc. It's why the minor league hockey team in Norfolk is the Admirals. It's why a football team in Norfolk went by Destroyers. The Admirals is ridiculous. What is this, 1942? Will they also be segregated?
It’s also not particularly specific to DC. groundhogs I mean. They’re kindof all over. If you have an animal, it should be specific to a place, no? Most teams have that connection, no?I like Groundhogs. It belongs to the "self-aware" trend of animal names that aren't overtly threatening or dangerous that brought us the New Orleans Pelicans.

Are we canceling the term "Admiral" now? I can't keep up.I like Groundhogs. It belongs to the "self-aware" trend of animal names that aren't overtly threatening or dangerous that brought us the New Orleans Pelicans.

Groundhogs sounds like a name you'd see in Single-A baseball, IMHO. Just "Hogs" seems pretty good, compared to the alternatives.Admirals doesn't really seem like a word that fits with Washington, since George Washington was a general, not an admiral.
Groundhogs, Redhogs, or just Hogs would be better, especially since "Hogs" has a connection to the team's history.
