have to say football has been quite different today and yesterday...even in December when there were couple thousand of fans, it felt like they were playing in empty stadiums.

I like this Arsenal line-up. Upgrade Elneny in the midfield and it's a decent starting XI with some room for growth with the young players next year (maybe with Saliba getting in there, too):

Leno
Chambers - Holding - Gabriel - Tierney
Partey - Elneny
Pepe - Smith Rowe - Saka
Aubameyang

With that written, now I'll sit back and probably watch them lose 1-0.

Spurs wasting no time this half getting into full Spursy mode. Give up a dangerous attack and have a free shot inside the box on a rebound saved SMH

Winks is offering nothing that Hoj can't, and not adding much defensive prowess in the MF. Anyone for Winks plz

Also Tanganga being left out on an island repeatedly

Tanganga’s a black hole offensively at RB which does not help. An interesting young defender, but really not a fullback at all.

Gorgeous team goal from Arsenal. Tierney passes down to Saka towards the left corner, Saka back-heels it back to Tierney, Tierney crosses from the edge of the box, and Pepe finishes with a right-footed (!) volley.

That is reason 34653453 why today has been oh so bad. You're not wrong, but that's far from the biggest problem today.
True, and I felt bad about posting it after he then got injured. Today’s been about midfield dysfunction mostly. I was frustrated about that cross at the time though.

Klopp makes one change - Gini in for Curtis Jones.

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Rhys Williams, Robertson, Thiago, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane. Subs: Milner, Adrian, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Tsimikas, Shaqiri, Origi, Neco Williams, Koumetio.

The change was probably made before Mason's first sub...

quite weird that Kane was the only one to give the fans a clap after the match...why wouldn't the team do it since its their final home match of the season

Spurs had the wheels come completely off. Really dispiriting performance. Europa is probably gone, Conference is even in jeopardy. Have to think Kane will push for a move this summer. They should really tear it all down and start from scratch.

The scouting's been fucked for about 5 years though so they need to fix that or that rebuild's just gonna be selling dollars and quarters and buying nickels.

Not sure how accurate that is. People that follow the academy have high hopes for Parrott, Scarlett, Skipp, Cirkin, Devine, White, et al.

Scouting/transfers I was referring to, not the academy. I don't have tremendous confidence in the academy either, although that can easily turn around if even one of those listed guys hits in a legitimate way. Academy development does not look great over the past few years compared to a Man U or Arsenal though, both in terms of results and even in attempting to get players shots.

I knew writing a post earlier this week about Arsenal's improved defensive prowess on set pieces was a bad idea. That Benteke goal was tough to see after a mostly comfortable 60 minutes.

Ooooooooffffffff. Wood should have scored there, and Alison should have come out to claim that one. Nat & Rhys are inspiring a lot of fear...

As a Palace fan, it has been delightful watching DGAF Hodgson-ball the last couple of games. They have actually been really fun to watch.

Lovely skill there from Thiago to keep in, flick it to himself, maintain possession.

Pepe gets another. Palace unlucky not to get anything from the match. Great to hear their fans in good voice.
Yeah, I felt for the Palace fans and @candylandriots. Palace seemed like they were going to get a well-earned point.

Arsenal did not consistently create and Palace had more opportunities, but Arsenal did create 3 big chances (Pepe 1st goal, Martinelli goal, and Aubameyang miss) and made the most of them. That was a rollercoaster.

Nat nabs his first career goal! Superb work by Mane to make the opportunity.

Deep exhale. I hope Rhys can relax a bit now.

Ah, that makes more sense. While the results this year have been dreadful, especially considering the cost/wages, I do feel like there's at least half of a good squad in there. But something is very wrong at the Lane and everyone not named Harry Kane has been underperforming significantly.
