"But the ascent to heaven occurred vs. the Raiders franchise 21 3/4 years ago. "

Indeed, the infamous Tuck Rule game for me cancelled out the infamous Ben Dreith Game. The former was a case of good call, bad rule. The latter was bad call, good rule.

Bryce Young had 3 tds last week. Until we can score a goddamn point we're the worst team in football.

Mac Jones reportedly will have a "short leash" today vs. the Raiders, and Bailey Zappe might not be the one who replaces him if Jones is benched again.

Update: The #Patriots have installed a "Package" on offense for QB/WR Malik Cunningham, and could use it today against the #Raiders, per
@RapSheet Cunningham was signed off the practice squad to the active roster yesterday and could provide a spark to an offense that scored 0 TDs the past two games. More on Cunningham signing a 3-year deal here: https://brobible.com/sports/article/patriots-sign-malik-cunningham-roster/ NFLN Link: https://nfl.com/news/patriots-

Cunningham gives me more hope than Mac.

I know that this might be a total head fake by Bill.

I know that I really know very little about how Cunningham would do.

I know all the naysayers' sayings. Including the lowest hanging fruit.

But I also know that Mac looks like piping red hot garbage right now. I know that he sucked last year and that maybe that wasn't all on Matt Patricia and Joe Judge. I know that he's a guy whose numbers (such as they are) almost always look better to me than his play (meaning he has an ARod-like knack for not delivering when it counts the most and with not nearly the talent or resume). I know that he has engineered ONE come from behind 4th quarter win in his career. I know that his Pats have beaten very few good teams. I know that in many of his better statistical games, he had the ball in his hands late in games with the chance to drive the Pats to victory and did not come out with a W. And I know that the Pats are 1-4 and are almost certainly headed to oblivion this year.

So yeah, I'll absorb whatever mocking this idea gets, and hope they activate Malik and put him in EARLY if first quarter Mac looks like Mac has looked all season.

Bring on that Short Leash!

Another thought. I wonder how much practice time Cunningham got at QB and whether, if it was a decent amount, if that messed with Mac's already seemingly shaky confidence.

O'Brien showing real interest in whatever he's instructing Cunningham about tells me the kid has real possibilities of getting in there and picking up the team.

Can our resident guy who knows tons of stuff about quarterbacks @SMU_Sox talk about Cunningham's arm strength? I know he's fast, but undersized. Did he have any kind of zip on his throws in college? Accuracy?

Of course, he's not really going to play quarterback. This is just a way to get me to watch what would otherwise be an unwatchable train-wreck.

I genuinely feel bad for Mac now. With this news being "leaked" about having a short leash how is that supposed to help him with his confidence at all?
Imagine having to go to work where your boss hates you and lets everyone else know it and if you make a mistake you're going to be fired.

If Cunningham's designated as a QB, then he has to be the backup with Zappa or Grier being the emergency QB. If he's designated as a WR, and runs a package of plays as a QB, is that allowable under the rules?

Maybe he should have played better. He's been coddled enough

Yeah. Anyone can play QB. Except in the situation with the emergency QB.

He's been given a million chances and continues to get worse. He has no one to blame but himself. And we know he isn't doing that.

They gave him a defensive and special teams coach to be his offensive coordinator last year. This year there is zero O line and a trash lineup of WRs who are slow as shit. It's no wonder he's totally wrapped up inside of his head with what he's been given to work with.

I'm not sure lack of confidence is his problem. I think the problem is the opposite. Over-confidence leads to stupid throws. I feel a little bad about the players he has to work with on offense, and I feel a little bad for the players that have to work with him. Hopefully he gets smarter.

Look, I get Mac has been hammered dog shit for a while now, that's not up for debate. BUT that being said I feel for the kid. He's on his third OC in three years, last years was a dysfunctional pile of shit, his O-Line is horrendous, and his receivers are pedestrian at best. It's a terrible situation for him. Not many QB's would be successful. That's not me making excuses for him, lots of his issues are also self inflicted and he's sucked. But I still feel for him.

I’m calling it now. The Pats blow out the Raiders in this game:
That's cool, some people need to see things several times before they realize something is true. The Panthers have tied the Dolphins at home, the Pats dream of such football competence.

We call that the Brady special.

But he is done here. Mentally he’s done.

Zappe inactive is bananas. I can't wait for this.
Knew that was coming, but surprised Grier isn't active. All the talk about Grier this week made it seem like he was passing Zappe as he started picking up the playbook

I am not shocked that the WRs blow. You can pick multiple years in the dynasty with shitty receivers. I am shocked that BB with a QB on a rookie contract has just basically ignored offensive tackle or stocked the cupboard with shitty offensive tackles. They have almost always had three good tackles. Hell, he drafted Solder and Cannon in the 2011 draft to a team that had Vollmer, Light, and Kaczur in 2010. And it worked out because Kaczur was cut and Light retired after the 2011.

BB's decision to go to Malik is going to be a part of Patriots lore, regardless of how this turns out. Then again, Mac might actually find himself again. We shall see!
