You have 6 picks in the first 60 slots. What the fuck do you need any of the rest after round 2 for? The Hamilton trade fucking sucks, but with the draft you can salvage it more so than the Seguin trade. The Lucic trade is fair value, I don't hate it. But why are you retaining salary and signing McQuaid when you are up against the cap? Certainly other team would take Lucic's salary in full for a lesser return. Why are you taking a goalie back when you have Subban/McIntyre behind the highest paid goalie in the league? Why are all three still here when you could package one to move up a few spots and get true top ten talent? Why do you pull off the once in a lifetime 3 consecutive top 15 picks if you only plan on reaching with the last two, when you can trade back or go crazy because you have MULTIPLE second round picks/late round picks to get back into the first? Why not take future second rounders to trade back a few spots and still get your binkies? Why give a rookie GM so much rope that he ends up trading mulitple NHL ready talents for futures, when we have an already aging defense, but an in it's prime up the middle core soaking up most of the cap? Your wing talents (and third line center) are now traded, mostly playing the off wing, unsigned, gigantically nostrilled or David Pastrnak. But once again, we still have Kelly and a slew of players to put together the most awesomest 4th line ever.
It is absolutely baffling. So many moves contradicting one another to end up with middling talent. The worst fear is likely to come true. Krejci, Rask and Bergeron will win us too many games to truly tank, and we have a lack of top flight prospects to supplement the other big pieces that are too tired now and too old to truly contribute. And this comes the same day as the fucking draft where we could have had multiple top 8 draft talent by maneuvering the number 13, 14 and 15 picks, 3 second rounders and a further 5 late round picks and 3 viable goaltending prospects. It's unfathomable.
