Niners. Real weakness this playoff seemed to be run D but one the Niners fans here pointed out that was mostly due to teams running at Chase Young.

Once Young was mostly benched against the Lions in the second half, run D was very good.

KC. I'm honestly shocked SF is favored. A blowout, maybe not, but it should be an easy victory.

Feels like the Niners need to be up 2 scores late if they're going to win. There's a path, similar to Bucs-Chiefs three years ago. But I think Purdy ends up turning it over once or twice and the Chiefs win somewhat comfortably. I'll go 27-17.

49ers or Chiefs?

Hunter Thompson had it right oh so many years ago.

The man had visions and knew the future.

I'm really excited for this game. I know there is a fair amount of Chiefs hate/fatigue here, but I enjoy watching both of these teams play. You can certainly draw some comps to Brady in Purdy's early success, the guy is so easy to root for. IMO Mahomes is always a must watch and as long as I'm drawing comps, how can you not watch Kelce run over guys and not think of how much fun it was to watch Gronk?. Both teams are strong on both sides of the ball, but I think experience wins out here. The Chiefs by three or less in a back and forth game with both teams scoring in the twenties. and I'm looking for Pacheco to get some MVP consideration with at least 1 TD and 150+ all purpose yards.

I just can't see KC losing this game, but I am pulling for SF just because the Pats are the last team to go back to back, and I would like to keep it that way for as long as possible.

They need a big game from McCaffrey to control the clock and keep Mahomes on the bench.

Niners. Go with the better team, not Mahomes magic voodoo bullshit.

(Yes, he is amazing. But lots of guys on a football team)

McCaffrey runs wild and SF wins comfortably, although the game will be close in the 3rd quarter before the Niners literally run away with it with McCaffrey.

Chief’s secondary has looked great. Purdy has looked mistake prone. That’s my analysis, such as it is. Chiefs by 10, +2 in turnovers.

I think the 49ers are the better team, but with apologies to Charles Barkeley, that doesn't mean you always win. There's something about how KC plays; it's not just that they've been there before, but they know how to operate—which, of course, is why they've been there before. Being better? How's that working out for you?

I'd really, really like to see the 49ers win if for no other reason that Purdy at Super Bowl events looks like some kind of prank where they send some kid who's uncle got him a locker room attendant gig out to take questions. And he's been amazing. In my mind's eye, though, while I definitely see CMC slicing through defenders a couple of times, I also see the KC offense just executing when it matters, SF defense be damned, there's film now.

With Joe Thuney out, can the 49ers pass rush reprise Tampa Bay's all-out harassment of Mahomes from Super Bowl LV? I am not sure they can.

That's a pretty compelling take. It could be nullified by McCaffrey running wild (KC is down DL Omenihu), so Purdy would need to do less. I'm with you, though, experienced Chiefs win it based on a key turnover or two.

Team with the better QB usually wins. Mahomes is the better QB. They are coming off impressive wins against Miami, Buffalo, and Baltimore. The 49ers defense has looked mortal in their 2 playoff games. Chiefs win and the game isn’t even close. 34-17 Chiefs.

I’d argue the better QB lost in half of the Super Bowls Brady played in: 2001, 2007, 2011, 2017, 2020

And there are plenty of other examples from the last 20 years. Burrow better than Stafford. Cam better than Peyton. Rodgers better than Ben. Gannon better than Brad Johnson.

It’s really not a true statement.

What's everyone's predictions on the number of lame-ass "Purdy/pretty" puns in the game thread? E.g., "That was a Purdy throw."

There was a time when the best D was a purdy, purdy, purdy (sorry Ferm had to) good indicator of post-season success. IMO that balance has been willfully tampered with, as fans love the long and deep ball.

The fix might be in.

Ive been waiting for the 49ers D to show up and it may not make a bit of difference.

Raoul likes KC, the points, and tequila to wash down the desert sand and shrooms.

This is my take. I think SF just has more talent, even though the Chiefs looked like the better team last week and they have the better QB.

I don't know what will happen in the future but when NFL fans complain about the Chiefs being the next iteration of the Patriots and you see Mahomes play, it feels foolish to bet against them.

Chiefs get an early lead after another slow start by SF. Spagnuolo and the Chiefs D keep Purdy‘s head spinning all night. He throws a couple interceptions. Mahomes makes enough plays in the second half to burn clock, maintain a comfortable lead. SF gets some garbage time points to make the game seem closer than it really was.

Chiefs 30-20.

I think this is the game Spags cements himself as an all-timer D coordinator. The 9ers have not been executing as well of late. I think he rattles Purdy with pressure up the middle, Chris Jones goes off and Chiefs win 27-13 or something. Mahomes goat sploogefest ensues. (He's the Tiger to Brady's Jack blah blah, blah blah.)

The Chiefs. I can't believe the 49ers are favored and you can bet on Mahomes as an underdog at this point.

The Chiefs D is gonna give the Niners more problems than many seem to anticipate. Mahomes is Mahomes - the Chiefs win if this is a one score game for most of the fourth quarter.

9ers were the better team all season. They faced adversity against good teams in the playoffs.

Chiefs got to play Miami in -1000 windchill, a Bill's team that struggled all season (whose number they've had for years), and a 2-4 Lamar Jackson.

Plus, fuck the Chiefs.

All week, all I've heard is you can't bet against Mahomes. You just can't. You can't. You can't bet against Mahomes.

Ergo, I am betting against Mahomes. San Fran has an awesome team, especially on the ground, which is KC's major weakness.(Baltimore hilariously chose to ignore this fact and it was hilarious) They also have a very solid secondary. The key to this game for SF is tackling. If they are playing hard and driving at the ball, they are going to win. KC's offense isn't good, even tho they have Mahomes.

You can sometimes bet against Mahomes.

Plus the Bills had no linebackers in that game. None.

SF's strength is their LBs.

You must have been listening/reading different things than I have. All I've seen are stories about how great the Chiefs defense is and whether Spagnola is the greatest defensive coordinator of all time.

The 49ers would be sitting at home right now if the Wizard of Oz had given Dan Campbell a brain. If anyone is lucky to be in this game it’s SF.
