Marty Schottenheimer got canned after a 14-2 season, guys sometimes get fired as the result of knee-jerk firings and/or media and fan pressure.

Cincy has stuck by Marvin Lewis through a lot of lean years, so it would be a bit surprising if they canned him after a successful season.  I don't think this team has the talent - or QB - to advance much farther than this stage of the playoffs.
Tell that to trent dilfer or joe flacco, "the best QB in football" according to JH.

I understand that lots of teams make stupid decisions all the time, Marvin Lewis' bengals have made the playoffs more times than the bengals had without Marvin Lewis over their enitre team history.

Punting?  Seriously?

Simms thinks it's a good decision.  Which is just further proof that it's dumb.

The Bengals punted from the Colts 39 yard line.
They have a couple of their biggest offensive weapons out of this game so one might think they feel they need to take a chance or two.  But they punt from the Colts 39 yard line.

That includes a 9-7 sneak-in in 2011, and this year's AFCN playing the god-awful NFC South. Plus the well-known PO failures. Better men have been fired for much less.

Edit: and what MM said. The first 8 years of his tenure only had 2 winning seasons. It's miraculous (in part) that he didn't get fired then.
The first 8 years of his tenure only had three losing seasons. The other three were .500, and this was a bottom feeder team before Lewis was around with six losing seasons and four with four wins or less prior to 2003.

EDIT: four with four wins or less, not five.

Yeah, that is an ugly start for Cincy.  Their D needs to play a great game, which will not happen if the Indy OL is paving holes like that for the immortal Dan Herron.
I like their defense's chances. Despite the touchdown, they did force a few third down situations. I don't think their offense is going to be effective at all.

That's more of an indictment on Mike Brown than Marvin Lewis:

Since Brown became owner, the team has had only 5 winning seasons out of 23 and has a winning percentage of .403 (151-224-1) in the regular season and .000 (0-5) in the playoffs.[24] In 2008, the Bengals set a record for the most games needed under one specific owner to attain 100 wins (288). In 2010, the team set a record for the least games needed to lose 200 (both considering and not considering playoffs) under one specific owner (314).[25]

The Bengals hold a number of distinctions for the time frame of Brown's ownership: It is the only team with three nine-game-or-more losing streaks.[26] It also holds six of the twenty-five 0-6 starts (24%)[27] and four of the thirteen 0-8 starts (31%) in that time.[28] The Bengals have gone winless in October nine different times in twenty-two years under five different head coaches (Sam Wyche was originally hired by Paul Brown).

It's interesting how much further baseball has come than football in this respect.

For example, punting from the Colts 39 seems to me roughly equivalent to the Royals' sacrifice bunt strategy in the playoffs last year.  Neither make any sense statistically.

Ned Yost was called insane by mainstream commenters, while the punt went roughly unnoticed.

Um, the passes might be nice Jim, but if he keeps staring at the receiver he's throwing to, there are going to be picks.

Dalton looks fairly sharp actually
He's tempting fate -- a couple out patterns on this drive were no more than a foot away from being picked, and quite possibly returned for a TD.

Ladies and gentlemen, your Indy Colts' rushing defense. This team has virtually no chance in Denver if they make it there.

What's the playoff record for rushing yards in a playoff game?  It's in jeopardy by CJ Anderson of all people.

Imagine how good Luck could be with Dalton's weapons (even sans Green).

Here
If INdy wins this, the first round really couldn't have gone better for the Broncos.
