If Perez can apply that stuff to the ball and get it to his pitcher obviously that's illegal, it doesn't matter that after 200IP Jake deGrom was finally some what hittable.
Bingo. Great low k lineup vs talented, young tired pitchers is how I would sum it up. As a Met fan i can accept kc is better and i figure they will win the series. With or without pine tar.

Man, I really, really hope the Mets don't lose tomorrow. Watching them go down 3-0...knowing the series is basically over at that point....it's going to make for a really boring WS.

I want every series to go 3-0: then the announcers talk about 2004, and in one team's clubhouse, I imagine them talking about the Red Sox, watching "Four Days in October", saying "Don't let us win tonight", etc. Maybe the Mets will ask Pedro to throw out the first pitch in game 4.

Exactly this.

And it being a team from New York doing it - looking to the Red Sox for inspiration, viewing their opposition as the Yankees, the known chokers - just adds to the pleasure.

I mean, I want the Mets to win, but not at the expense of the Red Sox sole ownership of the down 0-3 comeback. They go down 0-3 tonight, I am unceremoniously switching sides.

the only way sharing that record would be remotely okay was if it happened against the Yankees. and even then I am not sure where I stand.

Alas, no. I am ignorant, so I need educating. The Mets in 1986 carried out mass murders, rapes, puppy kidnappings in the Boston area? They were rude to your momma? Someone tell me, b/c I don't know. Why are the Mets particularly hateable? They tried to win and won, right? And what else? (I always thought the narrative was that the Boston 1)manager, 2)reliever, 3) first-baseman lost the series. Now I find out that the Mets somehow stole it. Or what?)

The NY on their caps is enough for me to hate them. But to ignore 1986 is ridiculous.

I was 5 in 1986. And the Red Sox have won 3 titles since then. I can see why someone old enough to experience 1986 can have that hatred..but for me? I don't care about 1986. I hope the Mets win so we no longer see 1986 highlights. A friend of mine can't believe I'm rooting a NY team. I apparently shouldn't root for any team from New York, New Jersey, Buffalo, or Brooklyn. Though, it seems a lot of that is tied to being a fan of football, hockey, and basketball in addition to baseball.

Isn't Keith Hernandez a dick about 1986 whenever he gets a chance? Also, second or third order reason: that Seinfeld episode made him pretty hate-able. Maybe, if DD adds to the new super core of kids enough to get to a series pretty soon, and the Mets might have the pitching to keep it going, we can meet them again. That would be an incredible series. For now, go Royals.

Are people actually calling Dombrowski "DD?"

To me, "DD" is the guy who brought us Pedro, and is now GM of the Orioles.

It's internet shorthand, not a nickname. In context, I find it difficult to believe anyone would not understand what DD means

Yet not difficult to believe that someone would complain about it anyway.

I'm just a crabby old broad these days, but in 1986 I was a hopeful young thing, and I have just this to say: suck on it, New York Mets.

A-Men! -- it took a botched grounder to first (in game one) to bring up the hate, but bring it up it did!

Hey, just before the pre-game on FS1, there's a program about you: "Haters: the Anatomy of a Rivalry" Super fans cling to age-old grudges, while brain scientists break down their passion. 6 to 7 tonight.

Why are the Yankees particularly hateable? They too tried to win, and in the past often won. Sports hatred is not particularly meant to be coherent. Hell, in most non-Sox matchups I can usually figure out which team I'd prefer to win, based on where they stand in my entirely arbitrary scale:
  1. Red Sox
  2. Nationals
  3. Royals
  4. Pirates
  5. Tigers
  6. As
  7. Mariners
  8. Rangers
  9. Astros
  10. Cubs
  11. Blue Jays
  12. Reds
  13. Padres
  14. Phillies
  15. Dodgers
  16. Twins
  17. Brewers
  18. Angels
  19. White Sox
  20. Orioles
  21. Rays
  22. Rockies
  23. Diamondbacks
  24. Marlins
  25. Indians
  26. Braves
  27. Giants
  28. Mets
  29. Cardinals
  30. Yankees

I would hate to be that person who paid for a front row seat to the WS and then saw this when I arrived

I didn't know you could do that mid-season. It takes away at least 10 feet of foul ground behind home plate.

EDIT: Wait, that's probably not behind home plate...

http://nypost.com/2015/10/30/the-mets-are-adding-extra-seats-for-game-3-for-vips-only/

The Mets just raised the bar for “best seats in the house” — installing two section of seats right on the field around home plate for Games 3, 4 and, hopefully, 5 of the World Series.

And catchers Travis d’Arnaud, of the Mets, and Salvador Perez, of the Royals, better watch out as the two sections of 30 VIP seats each could cut into their pursuit of foul pop-ups.
The special sections are also taking up space normally reserved for the on-deck circles, in order to get baseball bigwigs as close to the action as possible.

The on-field seats are so exclusive that they are not even being put up for sale — they are going only to Major League Baseball brass, Mets team officials and specially selected VIPs, according to Newsday.

They may also aggravate envious fans who paid $8,000 to $10,000 for choice seats in sections near the field — but are now located behind the added sections.

Reporters who visited Citi Field on Thursday first spotted the extra seats during the Mets’ day-off workout.

While the third-base side will be under the control of the league and considered the commissioner’s box, the first-base side will be set aside for the Mets, the newspaper said.

The move is one that has been done before by MLB teams, including the Mets for the 2013 All-Star Game.

Chris Leyden, a content analyst for the ticket search engine, SeatGeek, said that the seats would be very pricey real estate if they were actually put up for sale.

“Those are incredibly prime seats,” he said, comparing them to the sections behind home plate. “On the retail market, those added seats would probably be between $5,000 and $10,000 each.”

Also, those add on seats have angered the Great Francesa- his seats are right behind the additions and he's pissed that his view is now obstructed.

Those additions will come into play somehow. That's how baseball works. They've angered the BABIP Gods and there will be blood.

Truly. I never lumped the Mets in with the Yankees in the True Greed Sweepstakes, but I see I was wrong.

Long live the Royals!

I'm really glad you're ok with that World Series loss..

I'm not.

That should have been the World Series win to wipe away the Curse.

The Sox had a miracle comeback vs the Angels in the ALCS, destiny seemed to be on their side.

They won the first two games in New York, then Oil Can Boyd and Al Nipper, who was in the rotation instead of Tom Seaver, couldn't get the job done. Seaver was a trade deadline pick up that year, got him from the White Sox for Steve Lyons; how terrific would it have been if Seaver pitched in that series and helped the Sox beat the Mets, his former team.

Nope, he was injured and couldn't go, so Nipper did instead.

They won game five behind Bruce Hurst, then the infamous game 6.

They were up early in game 7, Hurst pitched again and was on fumes and they lost the game and the series to the arrogant, cocky Mets.

My uncle, who was the biggest Red Sox fan I've ever met, should have seen them win that series; he died in December of 2003, the year before they finally won the World Series.

So, I will forever hate the fucking Mets; winning the World Series in 2004, 2007, 2013 and a dozen times going forward will never, ever change that.

Sorry, that's the way it is for me.

Fuck them.

@JMastrodonato: They just showed video of the ball going through Buckner's legs on the Citi Field big screen and Mets fans went nuts.

Thank you for saying that, my feelings exactly.  They were a loathable, coke-snorting bunch of cocky assholes, so that definitely made it sting.  Given that you can't by definition lose to our biggest rival in the World Series, it still stung to lose to the OTHER team from New York...

On a different topic, am amused to see this little MLB factoid on ESPN's twitter feed:

Noah Syndergaard has a shot at history
With 9 or more K's in Game 3 tonight, Syndergaard would join Bob Gibson as the only pitchers in history with at least 9 K's in each of their first 3 postseason starts. The last rookie with 9 K's in a World Series game was Don Newcombe in 1949.

I mean, that's great and all, but Harvey and DeGrom managed to strike out a total of 4 between them in 11 innings, so good luck with that Noah!

Oh, and GO ROYALS!
