Buddy of mine was talking to an older minor leaguer a few weeks ago whose been teammates with a lot of the young guys up with the team now.
He told him that the players hated girardi

Interesting read. I do think it will be a challenge to find the right personality to bond with the players while living with the expectation to get the team deep into the World Series in year 1.And here is a full Sherman piece, he is generally the most tapped in of the Yankee beat writers:

I pinch hit for him many a time in NES RBI baseball, where he was on the NL All Star team. That's 1988 Topps Rookie Gold Cup winner Al Pedrique to you, bub.
And you have a young core, you don't won't them to be developing in that kind of environment.Buddy of mine was talking to an older minor leaguer a few weeks ago whose been teammates with a lot of the young guys up with the team now.

I guess they don't work on blocking pitches and catching throws in the minors.Pulled from that piece, here is Sherman's speculation on who they might hire:
So current bench coach Rob Thomson could be in play, as could former hitting coach Kevin Long — though, no pun intended, I think he would be a long shot. Yankees people really like Josh Paul, whose minor league work with Gary Sanchez was praised, and Reggie Willits, a minor league hitting coach and baserunning guru particularly liked by Gary Denbo, who recently left for Derek Jeter’s Marlins front office.
I can't say exactly on what podcast it was, might have been a Baseball America one, but Josh Paul was very impressive in the interview I heard.I guess they don't work on blocking pitches and catching throws in the minors.
Never in a million years. People need to cool their jets with the predictions.Nice to read this, I think Mattingly or A-Rod would be disastrous:

Can always be shocked but seen people throw out these names and I see 0 chance for #Yankees mgr: Mattingly, O’Neill, Posada, Randolph, A-Rod
Me too, assuming him and Cashman get along ok. Someone good with young players and good with Cash. I'll worry about bullpen management later.I clearly know basically nothing about this, but I think I'm rooting for Raul Ibanez.
Betts and Bogaerts (and apparently ERod) were hurt. Devers was fine. Benintendi was fine. Vazquez was fine. JBJ seemed to be really the only inexplicable dropoff among the Yutes.Difference is that BOS had a bunch of young guys underperform from last year, and the MFYs, well, didn't.
Hillman was in the Yankee org right?Trey Hillman is interesting also, it would be pretty funny if the Yankees and Red Sox hired Houston's last two bench coaches as managers in the same offseason.
That may be stretching it. I mean, sure Girardi could apparently be a hard-ass, but Dusty? He's in the running for the Nicest Guy in Baseball. So much of today’s game is analytics and tip toeing around the kids who have been coddled since their first showcase. The Perfect Game USA generation.
Yes, and he might have been in the running after Torre got canned.Hillman was in the Yankee org right?
Shut the fuck up, dink.Don't be a misogynist. Not a good look. Women who are qualified should get a shot as well.
I learned that last week at a dinner with a bunch of very liberal people. Guy called his two gay friends dinks. Sounded homophobic, but then he spelled out the acronym.Today I learned that a dink is a partner in a well-off working couple with no children.
Double Income No Kids? I get it now.I learned that last week at a dinner with a bunch of very liberal people. Guy called his two gay friends dinks. Sounded homophobic, but then he spelled out the acronym.
That's been around since yuppieToday I learned that a dink is a partner in a well-off working couple with no children.
Could you ask them what a rinky dink is?I learned that last week at a dinner with a bunch of very liberal people. Guy called his two gay friends dinks. Sounded homophobic, but then he spelled out the acronym.
Everyone there was already way more cultured than me. I was trying to lay low.Could you ask them what a rinky dink is?
Ooh, good call, I love that guy. I think he wants to keep playing if he can, though.Curtis Granderson would be my choice.
Joel Sherman wrote an article 2 days ago, saying that he doesn't want to manage.but that was before the Yankees had an opening. He knows the organization and is perfect in interviews/ media relations.
I think he has a big career as an analyst ahead of him. He's been great whenever he's been in the studio.Ooh, good call, I love that guy. I think he wants to keep playing if he can, though.
Headley Revise? This guy would come out of nowhere, and he's analytical. Not sure how young he is, though. The fact that he still lives in mom's basement makes it hard to guess his age:

He is supposedly up for Cora's job as bench coach with HOU, so maybe he is an asset (?).PS, Does this mean Espada is finally gone too?
The guy was an above average manager, with staying power. I would have kept him.I liked Girardi. Stability with the success of this season and a young core moving forward was preferable to me. I hope it works out and the grass turns out to be greener with someone else.
I'm familiar with shrinky dinks, but it's been a while.Could you ask them what a rinky dink is?
