Silas went to Detroit. But your point otherwise holds.Seems like more good news….
Lee, Silas and Cassell is an absurdly big upgrade from the Ime holdover crew with 1 foot out the door.
Yeah was surprised to see that in the Woj tweet, I hadn’t heard anything about Silas one way or another.Silas went to Detroit. But your point otherwise holds.
I’d assume Cassell will get the title of associate head coach, and Lee gets lead assistant. As I asked in another thread how do the assistants manage this stuff. Lee was # 1 in Milwaukee, Cassel #1 in Philly. Do we have to worry about ego’s etc..when building a staff?
At the very least we got the assistants from two of our biggest rivals who I’d imagine would best know how to play Embiid and Giannis. As I asked in another thread how do the assistants manage this stuff. Lee was # 1 in Milwaukee, Cassel #1 in Philly. Do we have to worry about ego’s etc..when building a staff?
Joe's life just got A LOT easier especially during those 48 minutes.I’d assume Cassell will get the title of associate head coach, and Lee gets lead assistant.
The bench has gotten a MASSIVE upgrade in the last week.
Can you name a single assistant coach on the Nuggets and Heat? This is the most I’ve heard about Celtics assistant coaches in my life. Maybe Thibs was close. I hope these guys are excellent and that it matters.
Did any of us know who Joe Mazzula was before this year? I think the major difference is obviously having a brand new coach vs. coaches who have been in the league for a decade or two.Can you name a single assistant coach on the Nuggets and Heat?
Most on the front row bench in their respective positions are comparable and that includes the head coach. Not only wasn't Joe even on the front row a year ago but none of his assistants were either. It was literally the blind leading the blind which won't be the case this upcoming season. How much of a difference will it make? Hard to measure but it has to help putting us on level ground of experience. Can you name a single assistant coach on the Nuggets and Heat?
Nuggets have Ryan Suanders on their staff (Flips son). They also have Popeye Jones and Rick Adelmans son (only knew about the last two because Van Gundy talked about it on a broadcast). Can you name a single assistant coach on the Nuggets and Heat?
Young Adelman is the next big assistant to emerge for head coaching jobs.Nuggets have Ryan Suanders on their staff (Flips son). They also have Popeye Jones and Rick Adelmans son (only knew about the last two because Van Gundy talked about it on a broadcast).
Heat have former Notre Dame guard Chris Quinn
Communication skills (thanks, Bucknell). What is Lee known for? Cassell is a former player who is smart and good with guards. What about Lee?
I’m fine if his only communication is to slap CJM on the back of the head when he starts saying “MOAR THREEEES” during a practice or a timeout.Communication skills (thanks, Bucknell).
Not sure that's a Joey Mazz strength . . .
I think that points to how unique last season's coaching situation was, you never hear about assistant coaches leaving en masse and normally they get hired alongside the head coach so you don't really notice. Given that so many people complained about the coaching in the playoffs this should be a really good thingThis is the most I’ve heard about Celtics assistant coaches in my life. Maybe Thibs was close. I hope these guys are excellent and that it matters.
All involved should realize winning a title benefits all. This bodes well as long as the egos are kept in check.
Could always bring in Cliff Paul handle the team's contract insurance.Any one of them close to veteran ring chasers? Would be nice if it would be a selling point to the likes of a Chris Paul to come here.
Cassell coached CP3 in LA.Any one of them close to veteran ring chasers? Would be nice if it would be a selling point to the likes of a Chris Paul to come here.
Played against him for several years too. Still can't imagine Paul ever ending up here with our backcourt rotation already set.Cassell coached CP3 in LA.
you never heard about Jimmy Rodgers? This is the most I’ve heard about Celtics assistant coaches in my life. Maybe Thibs was close. I hope these guys are excellent and that it matters.
upon googling I recognize the shit out of that guy, lol. I wasn’t reading SoSH back thenyou never heard about Jimmy Rodgers?
I hope it improves three point defense. Cuz if Miami hadn’t been lights it from three, the C’s would still be playing.I hope strengthened the coaching bench bodes well for greater communication, a clearer vision, better in game decisions and player buy-in for that vision. Before this lack of assistant coaching was becoming a public problem, I recall questioning why there was not greater communication between CJM and his assistants, as it appeared increasingly obvious he was floundering and needed some help. I'm hoping for the best.
Yeah, trading away one of Brogdon/Smart/White would be a virtual requirement for him, and probably Pritchard too. He still averaged 14/9 in 32 minutes this year, I don't think he's ready to sign up for 20-25 minutes just yet (and that's the most he'd get on the current roster).Played against him for several years too. Still can't imagine Paul ever ending up here with our backcourt rotation already set.
I think an undersold aspect is the fact that Stoudamire left the staff around the beginning of March, who was the top assistant. I can't say for sure how a coaching staff is structured in the NBA, but I'd imagine it was Stoudamire's job to dictate to the other coaches for Mazzulla. So not only was Mazzulla dealing with no offseason prep to be a HC with a staff he had no say in, he also lost his probably biggest communicator right near the end of the season and from what I can tell no one took his place. Everyone has different communication styles, so to change that near the end of the season on the fly would also be a major hindranceI hope strengthened the coaching bench bodes well for greater communication, a clearer vision, better in game decisions and player buy-in for that vision. Agreed. Game planning & season planning just got a whole bunch betterJoe's life just got A LOT easier especially during those 48 minutes.
As has been discussed elsewhere.. Miami is getting more wide open looks against Denver than they did against the Celts.. Martin, Vincent and Strus are just shooting a lot closer to the actual players they are.I hope it improves three point defense. Cuz if Miami hadn’t been lights it from three, the C’s would still be playing.
I am aware. My real point was if Miami hadn’t been so incredibly good at shooting these announcements couldn’t have been made yet cuz the C’s would still be playing. As has been discussed elsewhere.. Miami is getting more wide open looks against Denver than they did against the Celts.. Martin, Vincent and Strus are just shooting a lot closer to the actual players they are.
Nope, unless they get a great offer for either White or Smart that they can't pass up.Played against him for several years too. Still can't imagine Paul ever ending up here with our backcourt rotation already set.
Wouldn't Brogdon be the guy you would want to see go out if CP3 were ever to agree to come here? Basically swap them out pretty much 1-for-1 in terms of roles.Nope, unless they get a great offer for either White or Smart that they can't pass up.
Someone correct me if it's ever been reported, but I can't recall ever hearing about a situation where the assistant coaches' egos have ever been a noted problem on any team - either amongst themselves or w/r/t the head coach. Even with some abject failures like Calipari, and even as his burning funeral pyre was being floated down river, there weren't stories about his assistants chuckling behind their back at his incompetence, or in-fighting among them. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, of course. This bodes well as long as the egos are kept in check.
No I think you would start CP3 and whomever is left of White or Smart and leave Brogdon in his 6th man role.Wouldn't Brogdon be the guy you would want to see go out if CP3 were ever to agree to come here? Basically swap them out pretty much 1-for-1 in terms of roles.
I agree with this. NBA coaching is a small circle of people who all know each other. A really good way at getting kicked out of that circle is to go behind your head coaches back and try and seize controlSomeone correct me if it's ever been reported, but I can't recall ever hearing about a situation where the assistant coaches' egos have ever been a noted problem on any team - either amongst themselves or w/r/t the head coach. There was that Warrior fiasco with the infamous Darren Erman when Scalabrine was, I believe, on the staff. I'm sure similar occurs elsewhere just not busted out in the open. It's a cutthroat business as everyone is trying to get the next promotion or the next head job. Nothing would surprise me in these ranks.Someone correct me if it's ever been reported, but I can't recall ever hearing about a situation where the assistant coaches' egos have ever been a noted problem on any team - either amongst themselves or w/r/t the head coach. Wasnt there something with Jason Kidd and Lawrence Frank too? I believe when Kidd was the Nets coach he accused Frank of trying to sabotage him and steal his jobThere was that Warrior fiasco with the infamous Darren Erman when Scalabrine was, I believe, on the staff.
