I still haven’t seen a view of the Pasta SO goal to understand exactly what he did there.

I think the release is just so fast while also coming from behind his hip in a way that hides the start of the shot just enough that the goalies just have no chance. It is also tucked so tight in that the goalies can't sell out glove side -- if they do he still has space to sort of open up and burn them stick side.

But regular mortals can't both load the shot from so far back and also whip it out quickly enough to not have the goalie track the release and block it. Pasta is doing something regular people can't do, or at least not quickly enough to actually make it work.

He can also go either side. So whip it good (real good) and go short side or fake it and open your hands to go far side, both with a shit load of power. Of course you’re not looking at the net really so you need to have a stupid sense for goal scoring. If I tried it, it’d be a breakout the other way and I’d have gotten 2 for knocking Sorokin over.

Edit: the fake shot deke to backhand is totally in play too

Not only is he doing all that (which you’re totally correct about) he’s not looking at the net and still picking a spot that NHL players can’t hit when they’re looking at where they’re shooting. And he’s doing it blind. It’s legitimately nuts.

Yeah, I think so too.

It is going to blow the roof off the building some night when a goalie comes flying out of the net, totally selling out on the slingshot and Pasta toe-drags back behind his right leg from that point where he is most back, puck on the stick toe, and then just slides in the backhand on a completely vacated net.
