Watson strikes me as the sort of player who is a much better college QB than pro.

Reports for months from Cleveland that they were willing but Pats not. Whatever, we'll see I guess.
Guess I don't put much stock in reports. They've got their eye on #1 next year, it's the smart move, certainly better than paying for Jimmy G to QB an awful team.

LOL at this

Because I know you're thinking it: Combine the two trades, and the Texans traded the Browns two first-round picks, a second-round pick, a sixth-round pick and Brock Osweiler for DeShaun Watson and a fourth-round pick.

I think those are both good decisions.
I'm a wentz fan. Love what I saw and I watched every minute.
Was a good deal for the browns but the eagles managing to move Bradford to lose only two spots in the 1st this year means it was a fine move for them too imo.

Wentz COULD be a franchise qb. And Watson is an even bigger could. You need one. What's their plan?

Why? If he's good, pay him and keep him the next 10 years.

So, in a "down" QB year, not only did three QBs go in the top 12, but the teams that picked them actually traded assets to get up there to get them.

They aren't the Texans who have a good team missing a QB. They had no talent at all. They're plan is to build a good team particularly on the lines then add the QB. I mean last year every QB they had got injured because they couldn't block. Unless you think a QB is a can't miss you're better off waiting until there is some kind of team structure so you don't David Carr him. With their abundance of picks and a likely 1st round pick next year... plus cap space they'll have more shots at getting a QB before they're in a position to be hurt by not having one.

If he's good he'd have his pick of teams after playing the franchise dance.

I mean, if I were GM I'd pull the trigger on it, but I've also long since given up doubting that when God says "Jump" it's my job to say "Please draft a guy from Rutgers I've never heard of."

I'll say it - Fournette is the next Trent Richardson
My son (11 years old, Jags fan) is still absolutely ripshit over this pick, for precisely this reason.

Khan erred in retaining Caldwell, but lighting a fire under him by hiring Coughlin -- either give the guy a vote of confidence or replace him. This pick positively screams "win now" -- which might not be so bad if I thought it would work, but it won't.

On the plus side, I do think Fournette is better than Richardson (and also Yeldon and Ivory), so this could be less than a disaster, even if I'm right that it's a mistake.

I'm surprised the Cardinals were never discussed as a trade partner for New England for Jimmy G.

I have a question. Are conditional picks permitted in the NFL? Like, if the Patriots wanted to do a trade with Cleveland could they ask for whichever of the first round round picks next year is higher (or conversely, could Cleveland say, "we'll give you 25 and whichever of next year's 1st round picks is worse")?

(For the record, I am now convinced as much as I ever was that Jimmy G will be a Patriot next year -- just asking the abstract.)
