2018 PGA Tour

Finchem has been retired for over a year. Jay Monahan is the PGA Tour commissioner.
Er, oops. Him too.

Incidentally, now that the full archive of final round broadcasts at The Masters has been put on YouTube, I've just finished watching the final round of the 1975 Masters for the first time. What an incredible commentary lineup: Pat Summerall at 13, Jack Whitaker at 14, Ben Wright at 15, Henry Longhurst at 16, Frank Glieber at 17, and Vin Scully at 18. (And, bizarrely, Frank Broyles - in his capacity as an Augusta National member - conducting the interviews in the Butler Cabin.) Highly recommended:

I don’t think you would get the players to sign off on playing extra consolation matches just to satisfy a TV broadcast. You’d have to sweeten the pot.

It is a once a year event. I think the current format, while not perfect, is probably the best they can do.

I threw this out here last year and think I got a few takers... Ive been in this 4 majors pool for about 20 years now- $100 entry fee, you pick 4 golfers for each major(can't use the same guy twice, 16 total golfers), with payouts for each and a cumulative one at the end. All based off prize money, so its pretty easy to follow. Going off memory, there were 100 or so people in it and I think first prize for each major was around $1000, 2nd was $500, with the cumulative winner payouts $3k, $1500, $750... something like that anyway. Its a fun pool, good crew, web based so easy to track. If anyone wants in let me know and Ill forward you the invite.

The No Laying Up podcast had Bones on this week for like 50 mins just telling Phil Masters stories, recounting every shot and their discussion, club selections, thinking, etc. It's absolutely fascinating regardless if you're a Phil fan or not. His memory and storytelling is awesome - I could listen to him do this for hours.

I’ll have to listen to that later, sounds awesome. I had just been thinking the other day that it was too bad Bones wasn’t on the CBS broadcast because he would be awesome for the Masters. There aren’t many people that have more knowledge and background about the course and tournament than him.

Rewatching the final round of the 05 Masters. The TV coverage was far superior than it is today. Much better feel for the holes, slopes, angles, etc. throw a pro tracer on these camera angles and I’d be in heaven.

I just watched the 04 final round today. The coverage was great but the production was rough. They missed a lot of shots live where you could hear the roads in the background.

I forgot how incredible that back 9 was though.

Foreplay had Haney on. Good, has me wondering if Tiger can win with his driver struggles.

Looking at the odd for next week I'm loving Bubba and Kisner, liking Cantlay and Finau, and don't look now, but watch out for Charl

Phil with a ridiculous par there. In the hazard off the tree, drops in a tire mark and didn't get relief, 3 wood into the bunker about 60 yards short of the green, approach to 20-25 feet, drains the putt.

I'd have probably made 8, minimum.

Hey so something I just learned by watching a Masters documentary that I never realized.

In 97 Tiger played with Faldo in the first round and Azinger in the second, meaning they didn't do it how its done now. When was the change to you play with the same guy in the first two rounds of the tournament? Also is that a Masters thing or was it a rule on the tour?

Not sure this applies to that tournament, but for a long time The Masters would re-sort the field and pair the first-round leaders in the last group on Friday, just like they always do on Saturday and Sunday. (I kinda wish it was still that way as well.)

This was really fucking good. A must listen. Not the typical NLU gigglefest

After last weeks OWGR fiasco left him a spot out of qualifying for the Masters, Poulter is tied for the lead in Houston. A win would get him in.

anyone catch Hossler in the bunker before he hit that shot? Came dangerously close to building a stance there...luckily no more call ins for rules infractions.

Had an almost identical line to Beau. Think he saw that Hossler's putt didn't break, and he went right at it. Well done. Very interesting storylines in this playoff.

Wow. Poulter wants this masters spot so bad. I have beau on my fantasy team but even with a win I won’t win the week, so I am routing for poults.

I saw the shot but didn’t notice anything. What did you see?
I need to rewind and watch again, but he appeared to dig both feet backwards and forwards a bit as opposed to just straight down like you'd normally see. It was minimal, but definitely looked a little unusual.

Tough finish for Hossler? He's 23 years old, and just made more money in four days than most people make in 10 years, doing the thing he loves the most. I'm not too worried about the kid.

AR was talking about writing stuff on the ball before dropping it by the water hazard.
Oh sorry, I thought he was talking about Poulter, not Hossler. Hossler would drive me crazy if I played with him. Felt like every other shot, he stepped away and started his routine over again.

Yup.

Look, I get what he was doing. He was completely rattled and he wanted to take time to calm himself down before the next shot. And his routine is a great way of doing that.

But, in this case, the tournament was over. Have some semblance of professionalism and gather yourself without the need to take two minutes to put your distinctive mark on the new ball you are putting in play.

Ryder Cup teams throwing some punches through the Florida/Texas swing. A split decision.

Honda- JT
Mexico- Phil
Valspar- Casey
Bay Hill- Rory
Match play- Bubba
Houston- Poulter

I know it is Masters week, but I can’t wait for France.

The LPGA major headed to a 3 way playoff on the golf channel right now.
