Quick question... is it the 10th game that triggers the year tolling or would it be the 11th game if he played? So it tonight the last night he plays without any fear of the year tolling or is it the next game?
The year on his ELC tolls once he plays in his 10th game. So, yes, tonight is the last "free" game from a contract standpoint. As noted, he is almost certainly sticking around.

I get the feeling if he makes it through this game unscathed Monty will say post game he is sticking. I bet the decision was made a few games ago, but there was no point in starting his clock before they had to on the off chance he got hurt. There is no question he makes them better

Postgame comments:

Poitras decision tomorrow.
Grz out a couple of weeks.

Note: I'd assume Lohrei for Grz, Mitchell for McAvoy and Zboril for a 7th D, with Brown down to Prov

I hope Poitras doesn't have Ty Anderson alerts on Twitter... as I would love a moment like:

"We need to balance what is good for you and what is good for the team. You have done a great job for us, and a lot of people are pushing you for you to stay up. But again, at the end of the day, we need to do what is best for the team. So... Welcome!"

I just hope everyone is ok when he inevitably hits the rookie wall. I think there are too many expectations on the kid right now and teams will start targeting him, he's going to struggle throughout the year.

Too bad Bergy isn't still on the team.

I'm happy with the move, however.

Bruins, with injury issues & a likely suspension on D, haven't announced any moves, but Providence Bruins expected to be without Ian Mitchell, Mason Lohrei, Parker Wotherspoon when they play at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wed., so draw your own conclusions

Maybe they changed it at some point but I thought players could only appeal 5+ games.
Everything I've found says you can appeal any suspension length. Just you can only request an independent arbitrer if it's 6+. I haven't dug into the CBA though, so it's possible I'm missing something

Lindholm played Norris-caliber hockey while McAvoy was out at the beginning of last season. Maybe this will be an opportunity to kickstart his somewhat underwhelming season to date.

Lindholm may not be putting up points but he's played really good hockey. He's been phenomenal at getting pucks out of the zone and into transition.

I'm convinced the Bruins good start is a result of solid depth and work of the D. Hopefully with Mac out it finds a way to preserve .

Per Bruins PR:

The team has placed defenseman Matt Grzelcyk on long-term injured reserve; placed forward Jakub Lauko on injured reserve; recalled defensemen Mason Lohrei, Ian Mitchell and Parker Wotherspoon from Providence.

Let the Lohrei season commence. Being down two of their best puck movers they're going to need the kid to fill some big shoes. Wondering if they pair him with Carlo for some stay at home help or Lindholm.

Would prob make sense to pair Lohrei (two-way D) with Carlo and Wotherspoon (Forbort-lite) with Lindholm and have Mitchell spot-start for Shattenkirk and rotate with Wotherspoon

Tough stretch here too - TOR, DET, DAL, and NYI. 2-2 on this stretch without McAvoy would be fine with me, and ideally you’d like to win the division games up front if possible. But if your team is built on defense and goaltending and a third of your defensemen are out, it could get dodgy here for a bit.

No it is not. As much as folks here want to claim Forbert cannot even tie his skates correctly, I do not want Tommy Cross walking through that door. We've been down this road before. It's not pretty when you have to play AHL guys out of necessity.

Let's be real here, if they weren't missing their best defenseman and another top 4 in Gryz replacing Forbert with an AHL player isn't an issue at all. His 5x5 play has been below replacement level this season.

But they are down two top 4 Dmen so it gets magnified. That being said Zbroil (who should have been the callup with Mitchell and Lorei IMO) is fine for a game or two replacing Forbert if that occurs.

Playing AHL guys out of necessity does get ugly definitely agree there, but in this case it's not a Tommy Cross. It's their #1 D prospect and a tweener in Mitchell filling in for 4 games. Then your poopoo platter possibly filling in for Forbert for a game or two. Ideal? No, but not a huge deal for a game or so.

Clearly Parker Wotherspoon is an upgrade over the 5th defenseman on an 8-0-1 team. *eyeroll*

This is Sports Hub Caller worthy discourse at best. You don't get to claim an NHL regular Dman is addition by subtraction for a guy who is 10th on the depth chart and lament they aren't calling up their 11th d man.

And take a minute to spell their names correctly too. It's the least you can do if you want to contribute here.

Ian Mitchell couldn’t get regular run on the Blackhawks last year. That’s telling.

So is he or is he not better than Forbort? You said anybody is an upgrade over him and your last two posts are confusing.

I personally believe he's equivalent to Forbert who I don't think should be starting on an NHL team at this point. Forbert should be a 7th defenseman. So neither should be getting regular run. Honestly Forbert would probably already be gone if they could get anyone to take his contract. Forbert has been so bad at 5x5 this year that even Mitchell (who's not good either) could still be a slight upgrade IMO.

I'm saying this as someone who played defense in Juniors and in College, so I have experience at upper levels of hockey so I believe I have the ability to recognize player skill sets. I'm no expert, nor will I ever claim to be. Others (probably even on this site) have more knowledge than I do, but I firmly believe that even a tweener is a slight upgrade or side grade on Forbert.

Montgomery said Heinen played some D in college. (As he did in OT the other night; though the 3rd guy is only kinda sorta a defenseman.)
