Manzardo popped up & then they brought in Felix Cepeda to pitch.

Cepeda stayed in for the 10th.

Single (7-5)
Lineout to Rosier
Wild pitch (runner on 2nd)
Walk

Cepeda out

Single
Sac fly to Rosier advancing all 3 runners ask I'll assume it was a great catch (7-6, 2nd & 3rd, 2 outs)
Flyout to Rosier to end the game

Cepeda's final line:

1 IP
2 runs
1 ER
2 hits
2 walks
1 WP
0 strikeouts

On the bright side, he's making the decision not to protect him pretty easy? It's a bit concerning that he is struggling so badly against the tougher competition, though.

Rosier was 3-5 with 2 steals.

McDonough was 0-3 with 2 walks & a steal.

Olds final line:

2 IP
0 runs
1 hit

...or it would have been if they hadn't changed who pitched the 9th. Turns out he just pitched the 8th.

At least the screenshot proves I'm not crazy lol

McDonough scored the tying run in the 7th on a 1-out double, a PB & a sac fly, & the eventual winning run in the tip of the 9th on a 1-out double + another double.

Yes & no...

Rosier is slashing .356/.396/.444 for an .840 OPS. Which is good, but only 3rd best on his own team.

He does have 5 of his team's 9 steals, though. 4.2% walk rate, 10.8% strikeout rate. Both about half of what he was doing in the regular season at Portland & Worcester.
Rosier fixed this today, going 1-3 with 3 walks & 2 strikeouts.

Bryan Mata pitched 1.1 scoreless with 1 hit (an infield single) & 3 strikeouts. Mata's fastest pitch was his last one - a 99.2 mph 4-seamer to strikeout the side in the 7th. He threw 22 pitches, 13 strikes, & was consistently throwing 98+ with both his sinker & his fastball.

Christopher Troye pitched a scoreless 9th with a hit & a strikeout for the save (2). Troye allowed a flyout, double on a 1st pitch cutter, lineout & ended the game on a strikeout. He topped out at 95.4 & was sitting around 93. He threw 15 pitches, 10 strikes.

Tyler McDonough, OF/2B, BOS, 24
We’ll pause briefly for a round of applause. Please congratulate Tyler on his first sheet appearance and a well-deserved one at that! He collected a three-piece of doubles in a 3-4 effort that included a walk and three runs scored.

In fairness to Tyler, it’s his first appearance because he’s only appeared in four games and compiled 17 plate appearances. He was the third-round choice of the Red Sox in the 2021 draft out of NC State, where he had a career .332/.414/.540 slash to pair with 23 home runs and 30 stolen bases over 632 plate appearances. He is incredibly versatile, appearing in games at all three outfield positions in addition to second base, third base, and shortstop throughout 2023.

The performance hasn’t totally been there for him despite relatively glowing reviews come draft time, but that can take some time when you’re moving all over the diamond and switch-hitting.
Bryan Mata, RHP, BOS, 24

If you’re not familiar with Bryan Mata, take a gander at the top pitch velocity leaderboard from last night’s game:

Not new news for Mata, who is a certified fireballer and has been a known entity in Red Sox circles since his signing in 2016. He’s had a meandering career with the Red Sox that included re-working his pitch mix, missing a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, and then undergoing Tommy John that kept him out of game competition until 2022.

He threw just 27 innings in 2023 spread over nine appearances, seven of which were starts, but I think it’s fair to say it’s unclear whether he has a future in the rotation or out of the bullpen. He’s struggled with both command and durability.

Btw, that's how the article appeared regarding Mata...there wasn't actually a leaderboard there. I went looking for a leaderboard, but came across more TMac content instead:

Red Sox: Tyler McDonough, 2B (Unranked), Glendale Desert Dogs
McDonough shook off a trio of hitless games to begin his Fall League campaign by doubling three times and scoring three runs for the Desert Dogs. The 24-year-old walked and popped out in his first two plate appearances before finishing with three consecutive two-baggers. McDonough has a .815 OPS in four games and 13 at-bats.

There's a video on this page with the 3 doubles. but not quite sure how to link directly:
