Fractured fifth metatarsal for Hanigan. Surgery likely. Out "a substantial amount of time."

No Salty. No more Salty ever.

Hanigan has a fractured knuckle on his little finger. Seems to be a chance he returns but it would not be for a while if so.
Agreed.luckysox said:This was the nightmare scenario when CV went down. God damn it. Bring Swihart up. Can he be worse than anything else they'll do? Let him learn on the job with this staff, some of whom he'll be catching next year anyway.

Two questions: I get that it would be expediting things, and that we have a recent history of bringing guys up perhaps a tick or two too early but is promoting Swihart really that irresponsible?
Also, why is everyone so unbelievably down on Salty? Understand that he hasn't been good the last year-plus but he had a very solid 2013 until he burned out – and at the time most people wanted him back until the price for prohibitive.

Yes, avascular necrosis in both hips. It hasn't gotten worse since it was discovered, but if I remember correctly they also basically ruled out him ever catching again.geoduck no quahog said:What was the reason Napoli had to put away the mitt? Something to do with his hips?
No,no,no. This guy makes Salty look like Johnny Bench.CoffeeNerdness said:Wilin Rosario from the Rockies maybe? It seems like he's worn out his welcome in CO as he's languishing in AAA. He may have eaten his way off the catcher position by now though. Also he may be a headcase. So yeah.

It's really not fluky at all. If you leave your exposed hand there, you're going to get hit. The only question is whether you get bruised or broken.Andrew said:
People have been saying that since opening day in the gamethreads. You'd think after the fourth time being hit in the hand this year he'd move it behind his back like other catchers, but instead he gets hit a fifth time and potentially ends his season. It's so frustrating because it's fluky, but not something unavoidable.

Industry source: Swihart will join Red Sox Sat. though Sox will continue to explore external options. Saltalamacchia not among them, however

Sounds like #RedSox will, in fact, call up Blake Swihart.
