Harden to Clips

I do not agree with this. I think the NBA has more talent now than ever before. I think they could expand easily. I am also higher on the Clips than you are.

The NBA for most of my life was you pretty much know who is going to win and at most it’s four teams that have a shot . I think the last few years has more competitive balance than I ever remember.
at best right now the clips are a 5 seed and that is will everyone playing they are closer to the 7/8 range
as far as balance right now i only see 6-8 teams that can win it all East Bos Milw West Den phox then maybe GS LAL
Expand by 2 teams will hurt earlyone bench

Couldn't disagree with you more on this. There's a ton of talent in the league, especially as the last generation of all-stars continues to remain super effective well into their 30s.
its a fair point i just think it wouild be a deeper league if couild have zion on the knicks ingram in philly sikam in boston pablo being the prize in a re-draft

Lost in all the "Harden quit on another team!" talk:

- he probably stays in Brooklyn if Kyrie gets the vax
- he definitely stays in Philly if they pay him (which Morey almost certainly said they would, in summer 2022)

What were his realistic options after he took a discount rather than getting paid in 2022 (which he would have, on the open market), and then Morey reneged?
I don't think it's a given that Harden was getting maxed by a non-Philly team in 2022. There was not much cap space that offseason (as has been the case as less players move via FA) and 2021-2022 Harden was looking kind of washed. The Knicks and the Spurs had north of 30M. Maybe NY would have been interested, but the Brunson contract seemed like a done deal. No way Pop was going after The Beard. There were a handful of teams in the 20's, but they were all rebuilding teams none of which seemed liked reasonable destinations.

There was a lot of Harden's going back to Houston talk in the second half of last season. Multiple folks, with varying degrees of credibility, reported that Houston was prepared to spend big on Harden until they hired Ime, who but the kibosh on the deal.

Anyone looking for a fun clip, check out Chris Broussard. Not just does he question Hardens mental facilities, but he even started to talk about putting his mentally challenged cousin out to...well...who knows where he was going with it.

Good times all around.

Yeah, James Harden was dumb to believe Morey.

But, the guy will have made $340,000,000 in salary in his NBA career at the end of this season, and Forbes estimates he's making another $22mil per year in endorsements.

I'm not shedding any tears for his financial problems. If he wants to make more money, go out and show up in the playoffs and the money will pour in even more. Or just, you know, show up.
That's a lot of lap dances.

Poor Chris, underrated comment by the cohost:

ESPN has a video of Harden and PJ walking into the arena. The look on Tucker’s face is ‘this jerk just made me disrupt my whole family and move 3000 miles’

Wait, PJ would rather live thru the winter in Philly than LA?

Somewhat lucky for the Celtics that the timing worked out this way. Clippers 2028 pick unprotected and 2027/2029 swaps unprotected are a lot higher value than 2024 GSW 1-4 and 2029 Cs unprotected. I don't think TL+Brogdon do much to close that gap either.

Most relevantly, Portland definitely values the draft assets of aging assetless teams a lot, based on what we saw in the Dame deal.

If the Harden urgency had picked up a month ago, I think Jrue would be a Clipper or (gulp) a Sixer today.

I don't think it would be a deeper league. You'd still have the teams that would be scraping the bottom of the barrel (cough, tanking, cough) and the talent would accumulate at the top.

We would have epic battles though of teams with multiple HOFs battle in the playoffs. That would be something else.

AKA as the various Laker/Celtics Finals matchups in the 60s and 80s.

That's a possibility too. OG is a slightly better 3 point shooter and a solidly better defender, but Siakam is a far better overall player (and at this point in year 7 at age 26, there's little chance of OG ever being an all-star level player like Siakam is currently).

Both guys should be available at the right price, and there aren't any perfect fits out there. This is the downside of having your two best players be a giant center who does his best work close to the basket, and a small guard with defensive issues.

(and for the millionth time, Tatum would be THE absolute perfect fit on Philly between Maxey and Embiid. Too bad.)
PHI has to be hoping TOR doesn't get its act together. Otherwise, what's left, DeRozen? Maybe KAT if MIN goes south? (I know Lowe and Marks talked about this on Lowe's podcast but I haven't gotten all the way through yet).

Embiid, Siakam, Harris, Melton, and Maxey, with Paul Reed, Oubre, and one or two of RoCo / Pat Bev / MaMo / Jaden Springer / House coming off the bench is a pretty good team but their parts seem pretty redundant and they seem defendable, unless Maxey takes a huge leap as a playmaker (as opposed to a shotmaker).

But I'm sure Morey would be happy to take his chances with this squad.

Kevin Wildes expression is absolutely hilarious.

Also, in his "apology" after this clip, Broussard said that he has a family member who is mentally disabled...

There's no way the guy should be on the air. He's absolutely awful at his job even without the offensive slip-ups
