I like Miami, but it's definitely overrated. It still looks like an episode of Miami Vice, 30 years later. The infrastructure needs some serious work.I'm glad I'm not the only person in this thread that's spent time in Miami.

What, exactly, is the "Heat culture"? And if Hayward is choosing his team based on championship pedigree he should have already chosen Boston.Besides telling Hayward all of the obvious positives of playing here - weather, lack of state income tax, the Heat culture and championship pedigree - coaches also explained to Hayward how the offense would play to his strengths. The meeting lasted several hours.

I hope they were wearing name tagsFrom that article:
"Hayward was greeted by five Heat players - Hassan Whiteside, Udonis Haslem, Josh Richardson, Tyler Johnson and free agent James Johnson."
That's quite a bench you've assembled, Mr. Riley.

When I left Detroit to play for the Heat, I rented a house on Star Island in Miami Beach, across from Rony Seikaly. He was living in the house that Shaq later paid $19 million for; Rony built it for $2.5 million. Anyway, my house got robbed, and he let me, my daughter, and my wife move into his place for a week. Seikaly was one of my guys. He knew I wasn't there to take his job; I was there to play power forward. One day, he says to me, "Hey, man, how do you play all the way into June?" Remember, I'd been with the Pistons for six seasons and made the playoffs every year. I say, "What'd you say?" He goes, "The playoffs, third round, you guys play all the way to, like, June 28."
Not much. If Yabusele stays overseas another season, just waiving Zeller and Mickey and renouncing all their free agents gets them within a few hundred thousand. If Yabusele comes over, they'll have to clear a couple million or so,What has to be cleared to find max cap space for Hayward? These threads are far to big to go back and find it.
I would rather live in Boston than Miami, and I'd say that even if I hadn't grown up there. I'd rather live in Burlington VT or Portland ME than Miami. Miami sucks. It's humid as shit, there are mosquitoes everywhere 12 months a year, the people are by and large insipid, property taxes are sky high, old drivers are everywhere, and a couple times a year, your house gets slammed by a hurricane.Maybe I'm confusing her with someone else, but I thought the rumor was she preferred warm weather. (Though who doesn't).
Larry is still consulting or otherwise associated with the Pacers, right? Otherwise, since Hayward grew up in Indiana, would there be a better ambassador to tell him how great it is to play for the Celtics?Papi needs to be in on this. "You want this to be your f*ckin city, too."
Weren't there stories that Durant was pretty impressed with the basketball portion of the Celtics presentation last year? From that article:

Gordon Hayward isn't a playa looking to hit the clubs and sample the latina models. He's a mormon with a wife and two kids and exactly zero appearances on TMZ. Will Smith might prefer Miami but there's no way that applies to 100% of the population.
edit: reading further I see most of this has been covered. Whatever, there's always room to lump more hate on Miami.
Spoelstra is far above Bud and Clifford and it's not even close. Clifford lolI didn't realize that at least two of of Pop, Carlisle, Stevens, Kerr, Budenholzer, and Clifford all died.
(Spoelstra is a good to very good coach. The above are very good to excellent.)
This is overblown. He "dislikes" him because he's a Colts fan. I really don't think he'd actually think Brady showing up would be a negative.Spoelstra is far above Bud and Clifford and it's not even close. Clifford lol
Hayward is not a Tom Brady fan in the slightest so the Goat won't be able to help us this time.
The Celtics seem to agree:Maybe it's just me, but I always wonder whether the banners, celebrity meetings, etc. wouldn't backfire as much as they would help. If it was me I would be a little weirded out by all the hoopla, which smacks of desperation.
Then again, I am not an NBA player deciding where to spend the next (X) years of my life, and Riley has a proven track record of attracting free agents so maybe I'm off base.
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19784111/chris-forsberg-boston-pitch-gordon-haywardCeltics coach Brad Stevens, who coached Hayward for two seasons at Butler University, is expected to lead a film session in which he'll spotlight the ways Boston can utilize Hayward's talents. Boston brass are expecting key members of their core, including All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas, to be in attendance for the pitch as well.
Images of Hayward Photoshopped in a Heat uniform circulated on social media Saturday after being spotted outside AmericanAirlines Arena. The only banners the Celtics plan to spotlight are the 17 championship flags that both ring the wall at the team's practice facility and hang in the rafters at TD Garden.
Good. Fuck all the noise, Boston is about winning titles. If you want one, we're the best shot. If you want warm weather, go lose in Miami. The Celtics seem to agree:

I imagine he will be at their pitch also.Ingles back to the jazz makes this harder. They are extremely tight.
Most of the Celtics speak English too so not a huge deal.Ingles back to the jazz makes this harder. They are extremely tight.
So why would he leave Utah for either place especially after the team just extended one of his best friends for 4/$52m?I would rather live in Boston than Miami, and I'd say that even if I hadn't grown up there. Should the Celtics just cancel the meeting then?So why would he leave Utah for either place especially after the team just extended one of his best friends for 4/$52m?
Also, anyone who says they would rather live in Boston over Miami during the months of October to May is.....let's just say they are in the minority.
No but maybe the fanbase should have tempered their expectations over the past year on what has always been a longshot. We are now at the point of trying to justify our chances by convincing ourselves that Boston is a more desirable location in the winters than Florida.Should the Celtics just cancel the meeting then?
Why? To win one of these. We're better positioned to accomplish that than the loaded west or south beach. Certainly no guarantee, but let's be real we have a good chance. So why would he leave Utah for either place especially after the team just extended one of his best friends for 4/$52m?
Also, anyone who says they would rather live in Boston over Miami during the months of October to May is.....let's just say they are in the minority.
Neither are positioned anywhere remotely close to winning one of those. If Hayward was ring chasing he wouldn't be looking at either of these locations. We'll have at least 3 players under the age of 21 in our rotation next year with our best player probably having hip surgery in another month. Why? To win one of these. We're better positioned to accomplish that than the loaded west or south beach.
Unless he's going to sign for the vet min in the Land or GSW, we're probably the next best bet. The east is potentially one year away from being wide open if LeBron takes his talents to Malibu.Neither are positioned anywhere remotely close to winning one of those. If Hayward was ring chasing he wouldn't be looking at either of these locations.

Agreed. I know this is a Sox board but the City of Boston and Massachusetts sucks and it's not a secret. I hope Brad and the rabid fan base is enough to sway him.So why would he leave Utah for either place especially after the team just extended one of his best friends for 4/$52m?

You truly are insufferable. Celtics are also the odds on favorites according to the oddsmakers. No but maybe the fanbase should have tempered their expectations over the past year on what has always been a longshot. We are now at the point of trying to justify our chances by convincing ourselves that Boston is a more desirable location in the winters than Florida.
I know I know....But Brad!
Most cities in modern day America are more or less interchangeable. This is true even for Salt Lake City, and is especially true for professional athletes, who tend to live somewhere else in the offseason anyways.Agreed. I know this is a Sox board but the City of Boston and Massachusetts sucks and it's not a secret.
Massachusetts sucks? Really?Agreed. I know this is a Sox board but the City of Boston and Massachusetts sucks and it's not a secret.
As insufferable as my opinion can be at times even I feel this is a bit too much. My only point was that tens of thousands of New Englanders flock to Florida for the winter each year with many more traveling their to vacation during this time. Residents do look to escape in the winter.....that much is not a secret. I wouldn't agree that the state sucks though.Agreed. I know this is a Sox board but the City of Boston and Massachusetts sucks and it's not a secret. I hope Brad and the rabid fan base is enough to sway him.
Except it is. Even as favorites, we are still more likely not to land him than to land him.You truly are insufferable. Celtics are also the odds on favorites according to the oddsmakers.
This isn't some long shot miracle chance here. Stop acting like it is.
I know I know:..you're smarter than all of us tho!!
