Seattle loves former Jets
And vice versa (DJ Reed, Quinton Jefferson, Al Woods, Duane Brown - and that's just this year's team)

Is this a game changer for the Seahawks run defense?
Their run defense was already significantly improved from last year (4.9 YPC last year - 27th overall to 3.6 YPC this year - 5th overall). But this gives them another good player to go with Dre'Mont Jones, Jarran Reed, and Mario Edwards. Jones and Reed have already been playing almost 2/3rds of the snaps this season. No one in the DL has been bad (Young and Adams have been decent with their limited snaps). It gives them better depth and maybe improves the interior pass rush as well. I would have preferred an outside pass rusher, but he's a really good player to pick up.

If the way teams need to win these days is by passing, and the running game is less relevant than it has ever been before, that also should mean that run stuffers aren't nearly as valuable as they used to be, right? But...it sure seems like teams that can't stop the run get absolutely gashed on defense.

If Seattle wants to have any chance of beating Philly, SF, or Dallas, they’re going to need to stop the run so I can kind of see it from that perspective. I think they made this trade with Philly in mind.

Sources: The #Falcons are trading for some defensive help, bringing in #Eagles DT Kentavius Street in a late-round pick swap. It’s a conditional 2024 sixth rounder (if he plays in at least 6 games) in exchange for a 2025 7th rounder.

Stop the presses!

If the NFL moved this back a few weeks, I think we'd see a lot more action, which really would be to the League's benefit given the injury attrition. It must be the most inconsequential trade deadline among the big four.

And it used to be even worse - the deadline was Week 6! And GMs tended to make very few in season trades, period.

Yeah I’m old enough to remember when in season NFL trades were practically unheard of. The deadline tomorrow will be a torrent of activity in comparison to the old days.

Will Davante Adams be a Raider post-deadline? If I'm the Chiefs I'd figure out a way to get him in red. Will the Vikings add a QB? The Eagles always have something cooking - LB, CB or RB? Gonna be an interesting day.

Montez Sweat has been traded to Chicago, per sources.

Trade: Commanders and Bears have agreed to a trade that is expected to send DE Montez Sweat to the Chicago for a 2024 second-round pick, per sources. Sweat is in the last year of his contract, and the Commanders are opting for a draft pick now. Chicago beefs up its line.

From a Patriots draft pick POV, I like the Bears doing something that helps their team get better now.

Given Sweat is a UFA after the season, this has to be a precursor to locking him up before he hits FA through an extension or franchise tag. This doesn’t remotely move the needle for them this year.

They could just sign him in free agency, though they could have been worried that another team may take him off the market through this same maneuver. His market had to be hot.

He'll probably get them a 3rd if he leaves in free agency. Honestly kind of reminds me of when the 1-5 Giants traded a 3rd & 5th to the Jets for Leonard Williams at the deadline in 2019. I guess Chicago thinks getting him now gives them a better chance that he stays there long term.

The Bears presumably want to extend him. Using the draft pick to get exclusive bargaining rights esentially.... also lets them franchise him.
Would he go to the Bears otherwise?

Not sure it makes sense to give up a top 40ish pick, but the team with the player has a lot of advantages in free agency. They can slap him with an exclusive tag and keep him, or a non-exclusive and either keep him or get better picks (they won't nobody would make him an offer).

Should be noted that CHI has the most cap space for 2024 ($95mm, per spotrac), so they'll be in a position to assess his contribution to the locker room and pay him, if they choose. If they don't they most likely get a 3rd, so it's costing them 60 spots in the draft for a look-see.

I assume they'd tag and trade him over letting him walk for a chance at a future 3rd. With a deal in place a team would likely trade a current 3rd.

Worth noting that it would be a 2025 pick, in theory, so it is even less valuable than a high 2024 second rounder. I also don’t think it’s a lock they’ll see that compensatory pick if they plan to be active in FA.

I think it would be a mistake for them to view a future compensatory pick as a genuine hedge against him walking in this case.

Sources: RB-needy teams have reached out to the #Patriots about the availability of RB Ezekiel Elliott.

Elliott will be a free agent again after this season. The 2x All-Pro has 260 yards and 2 TDs this year. @BleacherReport

Trade Mac too, if you get a half decent offer. (I doubt they will)

Per sources, Patriots would be open to dealing DE Josh Uche and have had some talks with teams. He's 25 and on expiring rookie deal. Teams that missed out on Sweat could pivot there. Some have concerns about his health, but it doesn't sound like he's dealing with anything major.

My understanding is that the Patriots will entertain any serious and legit offer today. It comes down to what they think ‘legit’ means.

I'm going into this day thinking they're going to Bloom-up the trade deadline. That way, I have no expectations to have dashed

Giving Zeke a soft landing makes sense. You can get an asset, if a marginal one, and you can signal to the market (agents, other vets) that you’ll give special consideration to players of his cache playing on short money if the season goes to shit.

Why Chase Young? Last year of his deal, would be a win now move. Would only be interested at a super low price, like a 5th rounder at most.
Because BB is perceived as a defensive genius, so if he’s “interested” other teams should be. It’s why the Pats are always floated as interested in whomever teams are trying to unload.
