Honestly, thank God. This event has been shite.HA HA TIME FOR A 90 SECOND SLUGFEST
Undercard was good and so was Aldo/EdgarHonestly, thank God. This event has been shite.
If they dont have her in the cage challenging the winner of this fight, putting this last makes no fuckin senseYou can tell Ronda is coming back soon by all the random ass kissing shes getting
Don't see that fight going much different then the ass whooping we just saw.If they dont have her in the cage challenging the winner of this fight, putting this last makes no fuckin sense
Holm couldn't defend, Tate couldn't defend, and Nunes is unmarketable. Ronda coming back or not, Dana is pissedIf they dont have her in the cage challenging the winner of this fight, putting this last makes no fuckin sense
Cyborg needs to just wipe them all out. Only one with talent in the whole sex.Holm couldn't defend, Tate couldn't defend, and Nunes is unmarketable. Ronda coming back or not, Dana is pissed

Haven't seen her. Post a link and I'll amend if warranted.I was really expecting your next post in here to be gushing about Johanna Violence. At the least she makes your post sound silly.
Haven't seen her. Post a link and I'll amend if warranted.
At the same time?Cyborg needs to just wipe them all out.
One after the other in a single night. At the same time?
Except Aldo/Edgar was for a belt and was 5 rounds and this post makes exactly 0 sense?Perhaps because Aldo and Edgar trained for a 3 Round fight and the women's title match was always going to be scheduled for 5 Rounds.
First man ever to stop Diego Sanchez is pretty impressive.Joe Lauzon tho! Pumped for him best hes looked in a while.
Cyborg I can watch and know is a fighting genius. This Joanna J looks great against people who are pretty blah. The one girl I saw her beat up stopped and hopped before she threw anything. Worst tell I've ever seen. So yeah, it's easy to tee off on that. But JJ does have a wicked right hand and great speed and power, but, you know, so did Ricky Hatton and a bunch of other trivia questions. We shall see. Hopefully.
Whoops, sorry! Wasn't watching and totally blanked that there was a title on the line.Except Aldo/Edgar was for a belt and was 5 rounds and this post makes exactly 0 sense?
I agree with all this.First man ever to stop Diego Sanchez is pretty impressive.
I want to see the UFC go to a women's 145 or 155 division. Zuffa won't do it, likely because they don't want to promote women that look like Daniel Cormier, but it would be best for the sport. Cyborg would certainly dominate women her own size for a while, but it is silly to ask her cut way under what is reasonable or to ask all of the women who walk around twenty pounds lighter than her to meet her in the middle.
The best part of about JJ's performance on Friday night is how much her clinch game and take down defense has improved. I've rooted against her in four straight fights, but she is just too damn good.
I thought the booing of Cormier last night was stupid. The guy lost $500K in purse and millions in PPV cut when Jones pissed hot and I see zero reason for him to risk any damage against Silva, when he knew he could take him down at will and walk away with barely a bruise.
He told me that his hand and knee finally felt good for the first time in years. Joe is humble, but you could tell he felt good walking into that fight.Joe Lauzon tho! Pumped for him best hes looked in a while.
UFC is actually gonna go the opposite direction and have LOWER weight classes for women in the future. 115 and perhaps even 105 according to Meltzer.
Absolutely. Hes been dealing w stuff both physical and family stuff. Glad to see him look crisp and take 0 damage. Secures him a few more fights. Hes 5th overall in UFC history in finishes which is prerty impressive. He had some pop in that right last night. He told me that his hand and knee finally felt good for the first time in years. Joe is humble, but you could tell he felt good walking into that fight.
Holm never looked invincible, she just served up the biggest slice of humble pie you'll ever see. But you're right that they'll all a little shit. It's the nature of women's MMA. It's so far behind men's MMA, which itself is very new. Women's MMA reminds me of the ultimate fighter or the UFC 15-20 years ago. The fighters are not experienced or well rounded. They scrap it out and weird shit happens, but I still like watching it even if it isn't as evolved. One after the other in a single night.
The problem with gauging fighters is the same as any other sport - you can't tell ability until they're matched against someone very good in their own right. Rousey looked sublime, then Holm looked invincible then Tate looked reborn, but maybe they're all just shit, or fatally flawed. It's like the Ali, Foreman and Frazier trio - except with middling fighters.
Without a doubt. He's healthy, and I think his son is too now. Plus he should do better in the USADA's UFC.Joe Lauzon tho! Pumped for him best hes looked in a while.
Are there tons of huge, 180 pound women waiting around for the UFC or something? I'm down for every division if the numbers can support it, but it's hard to believe there a bunch of Nate Diaz sized ladies out there.Strawweight or 115 (JJ, Gadahla, PVZ, Rose N, Esparza) is already a weight class in the UFC. I thought they were going towards 125 next, not 105. Either way, I still hope they go up, rather than further down or cramming 125 in between the two weight classes they have.
Shit, youre right so yeah, the one in the middle and possibly 105 instead of going up. Dunno why I thought they already had 125.Strawweight or 115 (JJ, Gadahla, PVZ, Rose N, Esparza) is already a weight class in the UFC. I thought they were going towards 125 next, not 105. IIRC the weight cuts are different for Olympic Judo and Taekwondo than for MMA. They compete closer to their walking-around weight. Rousey was 155 in Judo but 135 in MMA. Taekwondo 147s would also be 135s in MMA. So really for MMA 145 or 155, we are really talking about Judo 170s. Harrison apparently fights between 165-170. I don't know how/if cuts for Olympic boxing or wrestling are different from MMA.You would know better than me how to build the body of a top level athlete, but in Women's Olympic Judo they have 155 and 170, in Taekwondo they have a 147 and in Olympic boxing and wrestling they have 152 and 165.
I have to think off of those four pools you have more than enough talent for a 145 or 155 division after a few years. There is no question that for a few years someone like Cyborg would slaughter most of the available talent. But by the end of the decade we would have a damn entertaining division and a path to wealth and fame for many of the athletes who compete in the combat sport weights mentioned above.
It's not just about the cut. I'll give MMA its due, it requires flexibility and endurance beyond those other sports. I'll admit I haven't watched a ton of judo or tae kwon do, but those aren't nearly as aerobically or anaerobically intense as an mma fight are they?IIRC the weight cuts are different for Olympic Judo and Taekwondo than for MMA. William Morris Endeavor, along with International Management Group today announced its acquisition of the world’s leading MMA promotion through a news release. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though the Las Vegas CBS affilitate reported late Sunday the sale price was $4 billion.
Along with WME and IMG, Silver Lake Partners and KKR are along as investors, as are MSD Capital/MSD Partners.
Current UFC owners Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta III will retain a “passive minority interest” in the new company. Lorenzo Fertitta will step down as CEO after the deal is complete. Dana White will continue in his role as the UFC’s president.
Reached Sunday night by ESPN, UFC president Dana White, who had adamantly denied the organization was for sale for the past two months after ESPN had reported that it was on the auction block, said the sale was bittersweet.
He said fans should not be concerned about the change in ownership.
"Exact opposite," White said. "Sport is going to the next level."
"We're confident that the new ownership team of WME-IMG, with whom we've built a strong relationship over the last several years, is committed to accelerating UFC's global growth," Fertitta said in a statement. "Most importantly, our new owners share the same vision and passion for this organization and its athletes."
Fertitta will step down as part of the deal, although the brothers will retain a minority interest. White, who owned 9 percent of UFC, will stay on and be given a stake in the new business.
The Abu Dhabi government still owns 10 percent of UFC as well.
The benefit of weight in Taekwondo is drastically diminished, too, IMHO, even though it's not just glorified tag like point karate. I don't have the judo background to comment intelligently.IIRC the weight cuts are different for Olympic Judo and Taekwondo than for MMA. They compete closer to their walking-around weight.
