Interesting, 10 second runoff or take a timeout.... I think you take the runoff in that instance actually, since the game is 99% over anyways if you keep the TO and fail.

I look forward to the dh/dpi call that gifts them a 1st down.

I mean, it's worked thus far, but I wonder whether the tush push would work as well with a running back taking the snap and save Hurts the punishment
idk, a lot of the Tush Push is Hurts being strong and good at sneaks. If it was easy to do with a RB other teams would have stolen it

Aside from a few shitty interventions from the refs that was a really good game. Reminder of how good the NFL is when the top teams play.

The Chiefs being the worst second-half scoring team in the entire league is a mind-blowing stat. Think about how many terrible QBs and anemic offenses we see every week, and yet somehow the Chiefs are worse than all of them.

I’m going to be interested in seeing how they retool the offense around Mahomes. Kelce is almost done as an elite pass catcher. Nobody else on the roster is remotely close and they won’t have much money to spend in FA on one. I’d keep throwing 1st/2nd round draft capital at the problem, if I were them.

To my untrained eye, the KC offense looks weaker than last year, and the defense looks stronger. That might make them better than last year.

Edit: and yet, they lost tonight... so what the hell do I know?

Kelce doesn't look anywhere near done to me, but your point stands. It won't last forever..

I’m assuming at least some of that is due to them going conservative because they’re playing with a lead.

I thought this was true as well, but they're NINTH in the AFC in points this season behind, for instance, Cleveland and Indianapolis. That sure feels different than in years past

Not done as a player but close to being done as a major mismatch. Turns 35 next year and is dealing with the scrutiny of a celebrity relationship. What are his priorities going to be this offseason? I do think he has a few more years of being an impact guy, if he wants to continue, but the chiefs probably need to find him a reliable WR counterpart ASAP.

Makes sense. He doesn’t play the position like Gronk (who with his receiving talent did in the modern era?), but he’s been in the league over a decade getting knocked around nonetheless. He is under contract for two more years under the latest bargain deal he signed a few years ago (about 29M total), and given his podcast and other opportunities off the field does he really want to play out that contract? For reference, Tony Gonzalez played until he was 37, Shannon Sharpe until he was 35, and Jason Witten until he was 38 (with one gap year when he joined the MNF crew, and a nondescript final year in LV).

His brother, meanwhile, has been dropping hints that this will be his last year

That their defense is young and really good helps. They can invest in offensive players in the draft. Although as we know it's hard to find the impact guys picking late in R1. They'll also be able to attract ring chasers. I think their real inflection point will be Kelce's retirement and, eventually, Reid's. That will also be when Mahomes is a bit older and having to adjust his game.
