They should have walked him.I wish they were pissed at him for costing us two games last week instead.
since when?Guys don’t need to be publicly rumored to be traded ...
I'm not even sure an Andujar/Frazier/Sheffield plus package would get the Mets to send him to NY.The Yankees don't need Machado. They need Jacob deGrom.
I'd do that deal.I'm not even sure an Andujar/Frazier/Sheffield plus package would get the Mets to send him to NY.
A writer for the NYT just suggested trading Judge plus for both DeGrom and Syndergaard, which also isn't happening but probably makes sense on some level. It's the kind of deal you could make if these were fantasy teams, but almost certainly not in real life.

Fuller seems like an odd fit, as a ton of his value seems to be tied to him being under team control for 4 years, but it's hard for me to see him as a long term Yankees. In fact I suspect it would be a lot like SG and they'd be selling a devalued asset next summer looking for an upgradeI am guessing a Fulmer deal is the most likely to happen, the rumor was Frazier and Wade plus presumably a young pitcher or two.
I'm not totally sold on him either, but he'd give them another possibility for the postseason rotation. NY almost certainly needs to bring in someone, I don't think Happ or Hamels will be especially cheap either.Fuller seems like an odd fit, as a ton of his value seems to be tied to him being under team control for 4 years, but it's hard for me to see him as a long term Yankees. If that is the best you get for Frazier, Wade, and then likely a very interesting arm or two, then it feels like a waste of assets
Based on how many rumored parties wanted him as a rental, I say no.Has Machado killed his bargaining power with his comments in recent days and weeks or what? Yanks have to know they just need to be in sniffing difference and he's theirs
I think it works both ways, if you target the few guys you most want, you can afford to overpay and hopefully get them. The Dodgers are very likely treating Machado like a hundred percent half season rental, and they can afford to give up five guys for that even with his defensive questions at SS, because of the system depth they've put together, and also that they seem to come up with stars out of thin air every season (hello Max Muncy). One of the problems of having a great farm system is that you generally end up overpaying on trades.
What would be the intention with Perez? He’s under contract until 2022, Sanchez 2023.If I'm Cashman right now, I am maybe going after Gausman, Salvador Perez (Romine would need to be traded but it would be peak value for him, maybe he has blossomed like Cervelli eventually did. heartless, I know, sorry Austin) and an impact bullpen lefty like Hand or Felipe Vazquez, and while the below is definitely true:
This is a great idea but Sanchez would need to take it the right way. I cannot imagine going into the playoffs with Sanchez catching in the late innings.I would just let them split time and let Sanchez learn from Perez. NY doesn't have a lot of ways to upgrade the roster, that one could be a bit like when HOU got Brian McCann. It's totally made up by me, though, no actual rumors that I've seen.
I don't think you'd want Thor at the momentWhat would folks give up for Thor or deGrom?
I'd be willing to include Andujar and anyone not named Sheffield.
Basically two guys outside of Torres and Sheffield + a couple lottery tickets. Andujar hurts and Andujar plus Frazier would really hurt, but I'd do it.What would folks give up for Thor or deGrom?
I'd be willing to include Andujar and anyone not named Sheffield.
Ignore is the wrong word. There hasn't been so much of a whisper of his name in probably 3 or 4 months. He is thou who shalt not be named. He's not even Rusney Castillo, he's just a write-off.And you continue to ignore the OF elephant on the disabled list
Elston Howard was hitting around .180 when the Sox acquired him for the stretch run in 1967. They never regretted it.Regarding Perez - he has been garbage at the plate this season .220/.259/.400. Even for him he is swinging at everything.
From a tutoring perspective I can see the obvious benefit, though Sanchez shouldn't listen to anything Perez has to say about pitch framing.
If he wants to come on the roster in September and steal an occasional base or pinch run for Bird, I'd be cool with that. I'd also be very happy to continue to pretend he's not on the team.Actually there was a funny Ellsbury update today:

Ellsbury said he hasn't resumed baseball activities & doesn't know when he will. Said of returning this season "that's still the plan" but knows clock is ticking on season. "U try to say that you’re hopeful. U come in, get your work in and do everything u can to play this season"
I keep thinking if Ellsbury misses the entire season, the Yankees can file an insurance claim and get money back. It could get sticky but that's why they have lawyers. If he wants to come on the roster in September and steal an occasional base or pinch run for Bird, I'd be cool with that. I'd also be very happy to continue to pretend he's not on the team.
Ellsbury is the last of the bad Yankee contracts, a sad reminder of how the franchise used to do business. Cashman learned his lesson. Maybe Ellsbury was the final straw for him. So in one sense, signing Ellsbury forced the Yankees to reassess. And now the franchise barely resembles its former self.I think actually they've been getting insurance for a few months on him already, the whole saga has been pretty odd.
Until they sign Harper this offseasonEllsbury is the last of the bad Yankee contracts ...
I didn't know people doubted the Cespedes ones, I think it took him some time to figure out what was going on and now they seem to have a general idea at least (very thorough article here, http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/24169933/mlb-even-worse-news-coming-yoenis-cespedes).It's interesting to me that in the cases of both Ellsbury and Cespedes fans and sports writers seem not to be able to believe in the player's injuries. They may have good reasons. I don't know.
