Was at a bar this weekend in Idaho. Asked a few times why this wasn't being discussed in the national media. Everyone just kind of looked at me funny and said 'al jazeera'

so there ya go

Mind boggling.

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2016/01/04/boomer-esiason-dismisses-al-jazeeras-peyton-manning-report/?cid=twitter_985thesportshub
“I was disappointed, because here is Al Jazeera for 25-30 years, however long they’ve been around, spewing anti-American propaganda all across the Middle East and now I have think they have all the answers on who is taking HGH and who isn’t taking HGH because of a disgruntledemployee? I hate it and I can’t stand it. I don’t consider them as a legitimate source and I hate that we have to have these discussions,” said Esiason. “I would like to see it from another source before we get into a conversation about it.”

Esiason said he doesn’t feel comfortable talking about such accusations given the source.

“I don’t like the whole thing around it. People can make all sorts of accusations and ruin people’s lives. I just don’t like it and I don’t feel comfortable about it. I sit behind a microphone for four hours every day, and can spew whatever I want. I take that responsibility very seriously,” he said.

“I’m not going to get myself caught up in a secondary, disgruntled employee, somebody who recanted his story, and try to connect the dots – that’s not my job,” he continued. “Until I get a factual and better reporter it doesn’t make sense to even discuss it.”

Right, I mean, here is your arabic threat to american heroes:

amusingly enough, that image is from this page, which should give you a nice monday morning dose of The Crazy if you're looking for why this is all under-reported.

Right, but from everything I've seen, he's not a disgruntled employee. Is there something I'm missing?

Serious question: Does Al Jazeera even have an anti-American slant in its coverage? My understanding is that it's a very reputable news organization.

FWIW, it would seem that the MSM--Nantz, Esiason (both of whom I tend to like)--are hanging their hats on the fact that Sly recanted. If I'm Al Jazeera, I might go hard at the other athletes he implicated. There will be a lot less resistance to the story about the Packers players and Teagarden -- and locking in those stories will make it very hard to ignore the Manning charges.

Pg. 35 of "Win it For"
What an upside down world. AJ (and probably BBC, CBC, etc.) is seen as garbage ("Foreigners!!1") and the American conglomerates (looking at you, ABC/ESPN nexus of DFG bullshit) are credible and above board.

This stuff isn't about sports...we've got some major lack of critical thinking going on, like, maybe even worse than any of the cultural critics imagined. Postman was [beyond] correct...

I hope for the day when Kraft accepts the trophy from Goodell, says a perfunctory "Thank you Mr. Commissioner," and then a "this is about the players and coaches" and walks off the podium with Brady and BB to join everyone on the field below, leaving Nantz and Goodell standing on the podium holding each other's junk.

Al Jazeera is owned by the government of Qatar, and is typically biased towards issues that Qatar cares about. Likely, the HGH story is not one of those issues.

It seems that Sly is tied in with former Jeter trainer Jason Riley and many of the people named in the AJ piece, were clients of Riley as well.
The NYT also buries another anecdote
Riley and Sly founded Elementz Nutrition, a nutritional supplements company whose website and Facebook page feature many athletes Sly mentioned on camera. Zimmerman is featured on the website; Howard, Neal and Keller on the Facebook page. In one photograph on Facebook, Riley poses at his gym, the Compound, between the mountainous Howard and the no less imposing Neal.

They might want to hurry. Last week, Elementz Nutrition voluntarily dissolved and closed its doors.

If you're in deep conspiracy mode I think the government of Qatar would love to make sports other than soccer look as bad as possible to draw attention away from the world cup fiasco.

Well, forget 2022... Al Jazeera's other main international TV venture is BeIn Sports, which has exclusive US rights to 3 of the 5 big EU soccer leagues (La Liga, Ligue 1, and Serie A, plus the english Championship). That's not even deep conspiracy mode, that probably puts it into shallow conspiracy waters.

Luckily, of course, we have individual reporters' backgrounds and (gasp) the reported facts, in order to evaluate credibility. But if you're looking for a reason to dismiss the reporting for irrational reasons, you do have plenty of places to hang your hat.

If AJ wanted to make the US BeIN channel not suck as hard as a Fox Sports spinoff, there are easier ways to go about it.

"They might want to hurry. Last week, Elementz Nutrition voluntarily dissolved and closed its doors."

Hmm...I guess for a place that had such a good reputation with athletes wasn't doing that well that they needed to quickly shut down. I wonder how ESPN is going to sweep this one under the rug?

When it comes to sweeping stories the NFL wants buried under the rug ESPN is the motherfucking Roomba of sports journalism.

It's not really in the league's interest, or any of the agencies that report on it, to expose widespread PED abuse, is it?

I don't think it's exactly a coincidence that *all* of the major networks (NBC, ABC/ESPN, CBS, FOX) has a stake in the NFL.
I don't buy this. Was it in their best interest to shit all over a franchise with false information going into the super bowl last year?

You can't suppress everything.Enough stuff got out earlier individuals who benefitted from getting the info out (some Grigson/Irsay/Kensil combo) that it was too late to do something coordinated to fix the situation.

Well, for one, it doesn't really hurt any of the other franchises for the Patriots to get shit on. You could argue that shitting on the Patriots enhanced the league's popularity. Everyone loves to hate a villain.

Al Jazeera is way more reliable than any of the news organizations based in the US. They're pretty good.

Yes, they're the network that shows all the beheading videos and such, but those things are news. When the Taliban or Isis or whoever makes a major statement, it should be reported - no matter how vile it is.

You can suppress bullshit rather than not issue a statement until way later.

Side note.

NYT picked it up. Maybe they can be taken seriously. Interesting that the nutrition place voluntarily closed their doors last week.

There is clearly no evidence of any of the side effects of HGH use. His head has grown the normal amount over the past 20 years.

As amusing as this is, this is the "needle length photo in the Exponent report" of the Guyer HGH scandal. Haircut, face leaning back vs leaning forward, camera lens type and distance... you could make Manning's face look like a Macy's Parade float if you wanted to. I take absolutely nothing from this other than "finger-painting with his forehead, Gorbachev-style" type jokes.

I was shocked to see (mostly) intelligent comments. I may need to spend less time on sports news sites...

Manning could end all of this. He just needs to tell people "check my phone" "read my texts" "go through my email" and he'll be firmly acquitted in the public eye of any wrong doing.

Wait what am I talking about. Manning already is off the hook! Now lets get back to speaking about Brady and his horrendous crimes against the NFL.

From a comparative standpoint, I agree. But stepping outside this meme for a second and just looking at that right photo - I don't care what camera angle, hair cut, etc. is being used - that forehead is so huge that you just want to believe it's photoshopped.

Here
Guys, there's another thread for the Brady comparison. What we really need to focus on here is that there's a non-zero chance Peyton Manning and Derek Jeter could be rolled up by the feds if someone ever decides to investigate. I think I would die from that long German word.

I'm sorry: is it that hard to even mention Taylor Teagarden? He isn't just a name dropped by Sly that he can take back -- he's IN THE FUCKING VIDEO!! TALKING ABOUT THE PEDS SLY GAVE HIM!

Earth to the NYT: Sly can't recant for other people.
