Why? Starting next year Stanton's contract increases to $25M+ a year through 2027. Eventually Judge will get paid too, but that time hasn't come yet.Hypothetical question for the assembled ... would you put Judge in a deal for Giancarlo Stanton
That's something, seems a bit overstated a phenomena but he did do it (420+ OBP) for a full half season so that's not nothing. We probably talked about it a few years back in this thread, but evidently he had trouble with umps punching him out on balls outside the strike zone quite a bit in the minors, especially in AAA. When he was locked in the first half of this year, his pitch recognition was remarkable and even now that he has been deeply slumping, he is still drawing plenty of walks, especially with two outs/no one on, so maybe that's what BigMike is thinking.
This seems crazy from a Yankee perspective especially with Harper hitting FA in another year. Even Judge plus Ellsbury for Stanton I don't think makes sense for NY.Hypothetical question for the assembled ... would you put Judge in a deal for Giancarlo Stanton
Come on, no way. That Stanton contract is insane. I don't think anyone would make that trade.Hypothetical question for the assembled ... would you put Judge in a deal for Giancarlo Stanton
Stanton is 27 and has 10/295M left on his deal, plus an opt-out in 2020 if he wants. Judge is a rookie who is cost-controlled for the next six seasons, plus he is 2 1/2 years younger and a better defender. It's not even a hundred percent clear that Stanton is better than Judge in a vacuum (their respective fWARs as of now are 6.0 for Judge and 4.4 for Stanton), but the contracts make it a ludicrous question (no disrespect to E5).Gotta love Yankee fans. Judge > Stanton and Harper's been a lock for pinstripes since he was drafted.
I'm just giving you a hard time, but it comes across like many Yankee fans I know that believe it.
Better yet, Judge for Betts? Judge for Benintendi?Come on, no way. That Stanton contract is insane. I don't think anyone would make that trade.
Would you trade Mookie Betts in a deal for Stanton?
Find me a Yankees fan who doesn't think Judge has a lot to work on right now. He's had a monster season and real bad past few months. I'm not really talking to anyone who thinks he is better than Stanton, although I'm not doubting there's a couple fans out there who do.Gotta love Yankee fans. I'm just giving you a hard time, but it comes across like many Yankee fans I know that believe it. Severino is also going to be better than Pedro.
We've all got fringey idiots in our ranks, not sure what "my Yankee fan friends are annoying" is supposed to prove.Find me a Yankees fan who doesn't think Judge has a lot to work on right now. I think it went 100 ft further than what they said it was.Tonight's HR is ridiculous, in the upper deck in left-center at Citi Field.
The video is on the front page of ESPN right now or is in the Gameday on MLB.com. Can't pull it right now.
Same thing as the Seattle one, they look longer because they are also so freaking high, 450 foot popups.I think it went 100 ft further than what they said it was.

Or struck out in 33 straight games....I somehow missed the year where Jeter hit 40+ HR, or lead the league in walks
Other than Celebrity status, he is just picking 2 random people who have nothing in common. Might as well compare Mookie Betts to David Ortiz
Right now? Definitely.Come on, no way. That Stanton contract is insane. I don't think anyone would make that trade.
Would you trade Mookie Betts in a deal for Stanton?
All of Boston is happy you are not their GM, then.Right now? Definitely.
It was a joke. Since Stanton hits a HR once every 2 at bats for the last month while Mookie has been not good. All of Boston is happy you are not their GM, then.
People keep forgetting about Didi. I won't lump Hicks into this conversation because I want to see another healthy season out of him but Didi is quickly climbing the charts for a lot of fans. He's an incredible asset on and off the field.Pretty impressive rookie season for Judge. It's scary that the Yankees have two very good young hitters in Judge and Sanchez.
One of the podcasts I listen to talked about replacing the core 4, and how the Yankees have done about as good a job as could be expected.People keep forgetting about Didi. It's exciting as a fan. Both the Sox & the Yankees have a handful of youngens that will be around for quite awhile. I'm really excited for next year when we get to see Andujar, Torres, and more development for Florial. One of the podcasts I listen to talked about replacing the core 4, and how the Yankees have done about as good a job as could be expected.
Posada to Sanchez.
Pettitte to Severino.
Jeter to Didi.
Mo to Robertson to Chapman to Betances.
Add Judge and Frazier and you've got a long term core I'd stack up against anyone. With Gray, Tanaka, Green, Kahnle, Pineda, etc... they should be a serious threat for the division and in the playoffs the next two years or so.
Cashman done good.
This is from a few days ago, but pretty amazing:One of the podcasts I listen to talked about replacing the core 4, and how the Yankees have done about as good a job as could be expected.

Interesting tweet. This is from a few days ago, but pretty amazing:
Zachary Abate @zabate
1998 Posada (26) + Jeter (24) + Bernie (29) + Pettitte (26) = 18 WAR
2017 Sanchez (24) + Didi (27) + Judge (25) + Severino (23) = 18.8 WAR
Crazy that Didi and Hicks are both older than Castro.People keep forgetting about Didi. I won't lump Hicks into this conversation because I want to see another healthy season out of him but Didi is quickly climbing the charts for a lot of fans. He's an incredible asset on and off the field.
He certainly deserves to be in the conversation. Is he back in MVP contention?
He had ROY locked up in May.
It's Altuve but he could easily finish in the top 3. Depends if Sale or Kluber get votes. Is he back in MVP contention?
He had ROY locked up in May.
I really don't think they will but who knows with the voters. It should be Altuve 1st, Judge 2nd and then the field. Jose Ramirez I guess. It's a pretty weak field outside of Altuve and Judge. Why do people think Sale or Kluber will get MVP votes?
besides leading the league in hits, batting average, WAR and OPS+? 2nd in SB, 3rd in OBP, 3rd in slugging %. Really?I actually would agree with JR over JA. I don’t see what has been so spectacular about Altuve’s season.
Yes, amazing. I didn't know he was leading in WAR AND hits. I still bet there are a handful of writers who punish him for having 80rbi.besides leading the league in hits, batting average, WAR and OPS+? 2nd in SB, 3rd in OBP, 3rd in slugging %. Really?
If they do, Aaron Judge will be the winner. He's got some pretty lofty counting figures and the rate stats to go with it. Altuve is at 8.2 WAR, 7.4 oWAR. Judge is at 7.1 WAR total. Somehow Simmons is 3rd at 6.6 (4.1 dWAR, guy has some ridiculous defensive numbers over his career), Ramirez 4th at 6.4 and Mookie Betts 5th with 6.2, on the merits of a 2.5 dWAR. Mike Trout is 6th at 6.0 despite playing 108 games.Yes, amazing. I didn't know he was leading in WAR AND hits. I still bet there are a handful of writers who punish him for having 80rbi.
