I adore him, and I hate myself for it.Stop making me appreciate a Yankee
And hit a third off the wall! You guys should have seen him playing catch with some kid in the stands last night, during the same game he hit two bombs and robbed another. He really can do it all.
Amazing how the visual of Judge being a monster size guy is brought down a toe. You don't realize how important it is until you hurt one.Torn toe ligament for Judge. Probably a season killer for the Yankees.
Yup. Wish he Nelson Cruz’d that ball. Great catch but you can’t be slamming into walls at that size, especially in some random June game.Judge might be my favorite player ever, but what a fucking idiot trying to literally run through concrete.
Definitely agree given the result, but I think the particular setup there just made it worse / somewhat unlucky, with the way the door opened making the ledge more prominent and put more pressure on his toe. Probably hard to make that mental calculation in a stadium you never play in while you're in the process of making a game-saving catch.Judge might be my favorite player ever, but what a fucking idiot trying to literally run through concrete.
Probably, but honestly all season, since he signed the massive deal and was officially named captain, he was trying too hard to do everything he could to help the team win, on and off the field. The off the field stuff is a bit dangerous in its own way as a person can only deal with so much, and in baseball you really need to focus on your own game, but on the field, he was lucky he didn't get hurt before this as he made a bunch of 'no regard for his body' plays like that that he walked away from unscathed. Someone needs to pound into his head the concept of 'losing the battle but winning the war'.Definitely agree given the result, but I think the particular setup there just made it worse / somewhat unlucky, with the way the door opened making the ledge more prominent and put more pressure on his toe. Yes, it’s analogous to getting quarterbacks to slide or run out of bounds to avoid contact. But especially for guys like Judge or Josh Allen who became successful playing intensely and without lasting physical consequences, it’s tough to shift to that protective mindset.Probably, but honestly all season, since he signed the massive deal and was officially named captain, he was trying too hard to do everything he could to help the team win, on and off the field. They haven't had Rodon all season and he should be back in a couple of weeks, and the schedule in the second half is weaker. The offense is a disaster right now though.So... are the Yankees sellers at the trading deadline? This team looks entirely different without Judge. I'm talking last place in the AL East with no chance at the Wild Card different.
Fair enough. The loss of Judge is obviously huge. He's in scoring position when he's brushing his teeth in the morning. They haven't had Rodon all season and he should be back in a couple of weeks, and the schedule in the second half is weaker. The offense is a disaster right now though.
But I don't think they have much to sell if they wanted to. I'd be happy to discuss that but let's not do it in the Judge thread, thanks.
I agree 100%. This sucks for the sport of baseball. This absolutely sucks to see. No sarcasm. The guy is so good for the game.
Reminded me of the scene in "The Natural" where outfielder Bump Bailey dies running through the outfield wall.Yup. Wish he Nelson Cruz’d that ball. Great catch but you can’t be slamming into walls at that size, especially in some random June game.
Only God can judge those who judge Judge. You guys are getting soft in your old age. I hope they have to cut his damn foot off.
As the First Plebeian said of Mark Antony's eulogy in Julius Caesar, "Methinks there is much reason in his sayings."You guys are getting soft in your old age. I hope they have to cut his damn foot off.
I like to see nice things happen to good guys. For example, I was happy he was able to go to a world series.I hate that I like a Yankee so much.

OK, but that was a lot of effort to research an overlapping but different stat. Overlapping but BETTER because Homers are better than doublesOK, but that was a lot of effort to research an overlapping but different stat. Anyway I just cut and pasted it from the YES stats guy on Twitter (James Smyth).
I mean, if someone posts a list of triple doubles in the NBA, responding with a list of guys whose assists and rebounds added up to 20 is kind of silly, but ok.Overlapping but BETTER because Homers are better than doubles
if he accumulates 26.3 more bWAR while never having a season above 2.6, he’d have the same JAWS as the average HOF RF.He decided to trade some strikeouts for doubles while doing everything else at the same rate. Bold choice if it works
To ask the annoying talking head question - if he retired today would he have a shot at the HOF? 43 fWAR, 44 bWAR, so probably a little too low even with his peak... but I feel like his two top-2 MVP finishes, his ROY, and his owning the AL HR record increase his chances slightly.
If he finishes this season with 40+ HRs and doesn't fall off a cliff after it, I think it's pretty much a lock, even if he was never at this level again / too injured to be in MVP conversations again. Is that homerism?
Babe Ruth is skewing that average. Also RF is slander, Judge is a born again CF'er. Until he's a 1B anyway.if he accumulates 26.3 more bWAR while never having a season above 2.6, he’d have the same JAWS as the average HOF RF.
He would be so large there. Like Richie Sexson. He made a sweet running catch in the gap yesterday that any CF would have been proud of, but I agree they should move him to 1B in the next couple of years.
