Do we know why yet? Oversleep again? Fuck around, got to airport late and security lines were too long? Uber didn't show? How in the world does his agent not make sure he's on the plane or the conference call or whatever?

Yeah it's not about hot takes. I'm legitimately worried that he's just one of the many, many humans who can't keep his/her shit together. The PR and the CHB type columns don't mean anything. But he is telegraphing to his teammates that he doesn't give a shit. That matters.
As far as I can tell his agent is something called “Athlete Management Group” who never represented a first round pick before (and he went a little later than originally predicted) so they aren’t off to a great start either. How in the world does his agent not make sure he's on the plane or the conference call or whatever?
From turning down 4/$70M to accepting vet minimum without a major injury as a reason. GJGE, Nerlens.Celtics brass and Williams's agent should be forwarding him the news that Nerlens Noel just signed for the vet minimum to be a back-up in OKC at the tender age of 24. Defensive dominance in college and great tools don't mean much in the NBA if you can't get your head right.
He ended up at Bill Duffys' agency. They have a ton of clients. As far as I can tell his agent is something called “Athlete Management Group” who never represented a first round pick before (and he went a little later than originally predicted) so they aren’t off to a great start either.

I can easily imagine forgetting the time zone shift the morning after the biggest event of his life, but missing a flight too suggests that he's got some growing up to do or time will pass him by.
Noel can’t shoot, which coincidentally is another thing Williams has to worry aboutCeltics brass and Williams's agent should be forwarding him the news that Nerlens Noel just signed for the vet minimum to be a back-up in OKC at the tender age of 24. Nah man I'm not crowing. He was and is a lottery ticket late in the first. It's a good pick if he never plays a game. You deserve this moment, enjoy it.
Its been a while since Danny hasn't drafted a high motor guy with his first pick (Smart, Rozier, Brown, Tatum). Fab Melo was also defensive POY in the Big East his final season.
So Williams is in Boston on Friday for the presser, is expected to be here on Sunday and doesn't stick around? For 48hours he could have stuck himself in the gym, done some windmill dunks on the court, and found a decent apartment for the next few seasons.
On the bright side, the Red Claws have found their center for the upcoming season.
There's a lot to be said for that POV, and DA et al. may very well take that view.Nah man I'm not crowing. He was and is a lottery ticket late in the first. It's a good pick if he never plays a game.
But it didn't take long to see why he slid.
Boston has some good culture, I think it's a great situation. I would be worried how he will take the g league though, seems like a guy who could not be bothered there and the cultural impact is smaller when you're not around the core I would think.
"Robert was doing volunteer work for his local church and wanted to get one more meal to an elderly person in the next county""Robert Williams - tantalizing sleeper or just a late flier?"
Has anyone yet outlined the circumstances around missing the flight?
The military personnel one is nicely timed for this week's patriotic holiday, so I'm buying it.Which one plays best?
He was saying goodbye to Reveille (if I knew how to photoshop, I'd photoshop a pic of RWill into this.)"Robert was doing volunteer work for his local church and wanted to get one more meal to an elderly person in the next county"
"Robert gave up his airplane seat to military personnel."
"Robert was helping a relative move this entire weekend and lost track of time"
"Robert took his advance from his agent and partied with his boys into the wee hours of Sunday morning and missed his 6am flight to Boston"
Which one plays best?
ON WHAT HAPPENED: “I went home, did a couple of things, then just a missed flight, missed communication by me. It’s all on me. So we’re going to push forward and move past that.”
[snip]
ON HOW HE FELT WHEN HE KNEW HE’D MISSED HIS FLIGHT: “Yeah, yeah. It was more of a self-upset because people have a bad image of me, I guess you could say. So just missing my flight didn’t help but, like I said, just looking to strive past that.”
ON WHETHER THIS EXPERIENCE WAS A WAKEUP CALL: “Definitely. Definitely. I talked to Coach [Brad] Stevens when I got back and he obviously explained to me about the opportunity, there’s not that many so, definitely a real wakeup call.
I was having a good morning, but then I saw this, and also saw that it wasn't the current thread title for some reason."Robert Williams - tantalizing sleeper or just a late flier?"
Maybe getting rebounds with his elbows at rim level? The article said he showed well at practice. It said he was "Catching it with his elbows". WTF does that mean?
It means he's revolutionizing the game. The article said he showed well at practice. It said he was "Catching it with his elbows". WTF does that mean?
The sumbitch is in phenomenal condition.I think the quote was “dunking with his elbows”. Think it just means that he has such a crazy vertical that his elbows are at the rim

There was an earlier quote about dunking with elbows as well.Later Larranaga added: "He's volleyball-spiking shots and catching the ball with his elbows.
D?I coach a kid right now that has probably kissed a D scholarship goodbye simply because he can't get out bed in the morning.
Call me when he dunks with his knees.I think the quote was “dunking with his elbows”. Think it just means that he has such a crazy vertical that his elbows are at the rim
I think that he mistakenly dropped a coefficient. D1, D2, something like that.
“It was more of a self-upset, because people have a bad image of me, I guess you could say,” Williams said. “So just missing my flight didn’t help but, like I said, just looking to strive past that.”
The likes of Jaylen Brown, Horford et al have absolutely spoiled us to the point of forgetting that most athletes speak a steady diet of word salad.“It was more of a self-upset, because people have a bad image of me, I guess you could say,” Williams said. “So just missing my flight didn’t help but, like I said, just looking to strive past that.”

Gosh that's awful. I'm sure you do a TON but is there any way you can go over to his home at 6am and have a man to man talk with him or intervention with his folks?I coach a kid right now that has probably kissed a D scholarship goodbye simply because he can't get out bed in the morning.
This is some excellent work."Robert Williams - tantalizing sleeper or just a late flier?"
Better late than never.I was having a good morning, but then I saw this, and also saw that it wasn't the current thread title for some reason.
The morning is no longer good.
My immediate thought was that depression could be an issue.Gosh that's awful. I'm sure you do a TON but is there any way you can go over to his home at 6am and have a man to man talk with him or intervention with his folks?
D1 scholarships don't grow on trees.
It's never too late when it comes to a 17yr old. Its a huge inflection point in that kid's life.
Teens are more likely to be nocturnal too.Of course getting up in the morning can be an issue for adolescents. I’ve heard it argued that high school classes should start at 9:30 AM at the earliest.

It’s definitely a thing. Had a college roommate who I worked at a TV station with who just flat out couldn’t wake up. He missed turning the transmitter on multiple times when he had to be in by 6, and had multiple dead air situations before they just had to permanently give him afternoon shifts.I coach a kid right now that has probably kissed a D scholarship goodbye simply because he can't get out bed in the morning.
I have done that many times. But, his mom is often already at work and he doesn't answer the door ,etc. He is on his own a lot. A lot of it is too late. He has failed every morning class all through high school and will not graduate on time. I coach him hoops but he is a football prospect. Generally he just forgets things, loses track of time, misses practices, classes. He has been so talented coaches, including me pick him, etc, and he relies on us.Gosh that's awful. I'm sure you do a TON but is there any way you can go over to his home at 6am and have a man to man talk with him or intervention with his folks?
