I keep seeing this. They also stopped the Packers when the first penalty was called. Their offense may have underperformed but the defense did their jobs. Should have been a 22-16 Detroit win.if you're Detroit, you're furious but you kicked 5 FGs. you need more TDs.
I think that people keep watching because of the controversies. I think so long as people are talking the ratings just keep going up and people tune in next week to see it again. The Calvin Johnson catch no catch fueled two years of interest in the NFL.And absolutely nothing will change. We will keep watching, the NFL reffing will keep sucking, and on it goes.
Parry might not but Perreira does this all the time. I think it’s just that Parry sucks.Parry is not gonna shit on his old buddies,
I think the ump called the penalty.the last call was missed because the GB O-line guy tilted his head up like it was hands to the face and a brief glance from the ref's angle looked like it was on the helmet, not the shoulder pad - depth of field issue. an NFL ref needs to see it better, but there's no conspiracy here, they're just bad.
Oh, agreed. Pointing out that this is a theme for Parry early in his retirement from officiating and debut as TV ref.Parry might not but Perreira does this all the time. I think it’s just that Parry sucks.
Holding should have been called.Hands-to-the-face penalties could have been called on offense instead of Flowers.
And I would agree that this is probably the dynamic at play. Perreira is really the only guy who has ever done this well and it’s probably partly because guys like Stertore are terrible but also because he ran the officiating operation as opposed to being a referee himself.Oh, agreed. Pointing out that this is a theme for Parry early in his retirement from officiating and debut as TV ref.
raises handIf I had the Lions money line, I would be absolutely losing my shit right now.
Yup. And they had the chance to fix this after the Rams/Saints debacle last year but didn't learn the right lesson. So we're right back here again. That’s incredible. Just. Make. Everything. Reviewable.

Senior Vice President of Officiating Al Riveron confirmed Friday the NFL has put its full-time officials' program on hiatus. Riveron told NFL Network's Omar Ruiz on Friday from the NFL Officiating Clinic that the full-time program won't be used this season.
"Unfortunately right now for this year that program will not be used," Riveron said. "However, like I said, we use our officials during the year, we take them out to the clubs, we take them out to meetings still, that program in a way will continue, not just by the name that we call it now."
ESPN first reported that the program would go away in 2019 as part of ongoing labor discussions with the Referees Association.
This. No surprise the Patriots defense actually got better once he left. Maybe one of the most overrated coaches the Patriots have ever had.The Lions fell apart mentally and defensively after the first hands to the face penalty. Patricia is not a good coach.
If your team got screwed like the Lions got unbelievably screwed last night, you would be apoplectic. And you would be right to do so. It's absurd to put this loss on Patricia. There were multiple screw jobs, (at least 3) each of them humongous. The Lions fell apart mentally and defensively after the first hands to the face penalty. Patricia is not a good coach.
Seriously. If Pats went down like that against the Jets next week, this board would be a disaster zone. Both calls against Flowers were just awful and they sandwiched a DPI non-call on GB that would have been huge for Detroit. That’s 3 major calls that all went GB’s way in the 4th quarter. You give Rodgers a million extra chances and eventually he’ll convert. If your team got screwed like the Lions got unbelievably screwed last night, you would be apoplectic. The league has a problem. There is no solution.
Hard to say they mentally fell apart when they had forced a 4th down and worst case should have had the ball with 1:20 left down 1 with the best long kicker in the game. DET literally didn't touch the ball the rest of the game when the refs robbed them a third time.This. No surprise the Patriots defense actually got better once he left. It's not that the calls were made or not made. It's that each of them was egregiously wrong, and game changing.Seriously. I love when people use the “well, you didn’t play a perfect game so you had your chances” logic after a team gets screwed by the refs. Simple fact of the matter is that Lions were better than GB last night but refs stole the win from them.
This is probably not the place to ask, but - are MLB umpires and NBA or NHL referees generally full-time employees? I know in MLB they make decent money, as they should, so they could probably not have any other employment if they didn't want to. Just trying to figure out if there's precedent for that being a profession. Given how readily you can be turfed out for basic on-job mistakes or just general league politics, and that you have no real financial upside, it seems like being full-time would be a bit of a sucker's bet for the ref themselves.Oh hey, the NFL full-time referee program has been suspended this year but no harm no foul, Riveron!
MLB / NBA / NHL pretty much have to be full time, at least during the season, due to the nature of the travel. The NFL playing once a week makes things more tricky. This is probably not the place to ask, but - are MLB umpires and NBA or NHL referees generally full-time employees? Dells' DimesSo what do you call that kind of coverage? The QB looks and sees 6 guys ready to rush, one linebacker, and then 6 more DBs.
When someone says “lions” in a word-association game, I say “screwed by the refs.” And I’m not a Lions fan.Working class team worked over by a starfucker League. That’s exactly what it looks like.
This isn't necessarily a foul. The defensive team needs to be in formation, the snap must be imminent, and nobody must be trying to get off the field. If the team recognizes it before or just as the flag is thrown they can call a timeout and it will be granted instead of the foul.Lol didn’t catch this in real time but the Packers had 13 players on the field on the drive after the Lions got flagged for 12 on the FG attempt. What a clusterfuck.

Agreed....though in the pic the snap looks pretty damned imminent. This isn't necessarily a foul. A screenshot for these plays is kind of like posting a picture of the center in the paint and crying that the refs missed 3 seconds.
and nobody on D looks like they are going to the sidelineAgreed....though in the pic the snap looks pretty damned imminent.
I also just found this on the play by play transcript:It looks like in that photo several players are attempting to call TO, FWIW.
Because this is better? It almost looks like the ref meant to say hands to the face on offense, but said defense by mistake....and after the announcement was afraid to reverse it.
