Yeah this isn't like a Cy Young situationBrady is 1st all-time in QB wins and, by my count, is 38th in losses. That's really something else.
The crazy thing with Tom is how his playoff winning percentage is the same as the regular season winning percentage. Over a 20 year career that's absurd. Sure, you can be Bart Starr and go 9-1 lifetime in the playoffs if you have a great team around you for a few seasons, but Brady has played in 45 postseason games and wins them over 75% of the time.In fairness to Peyton, that figure gets a lot lower - by like 15 games - if you scrap Peyton’s rookie year where a bad Colts team went 3-13. I doubt Tom would’ve fared much better if he started for the ‘00 Pats.
Still, given how successful Peyton’s teams were, it is telling that Brady’s teams were nonetheless winning at a 3-4 percent higher clip overall.
And every dome game he's ever played has been on the road.I think my favorite Tom vs. Peyton thing is if you take Tom's career dome numbers and give him as many games played in a dome as Peyton--his numbers blow Manning out of the water even more.
Brady career in a dome has a passer rating of 110.9 and outdoors it's 96.7.
Manning is 99.1 in dome and 94.0 outdoors.
We don’t need to be fair to a player who took PEDs and likely received the W/L benefit from doing so.In fairness to Peyton, that figure gets a lot lower - by like 15 games - if you scrap Peyton’s rookie year where a bad Colts team went 3-13. Truly remarkable. Playoffs are supposed to be, like, harder. I thought he only made it because the the AFC East tomato cans? The crazy thing with Tom is how his playoff winning percentage is the same as the regular season winning percentage. The most interesting nugget that came out of that to me was Brady saying Belichick's defense has remained the same for 20 years. He seemed to group Bill with the "do what we do" coaches, and not the "kitchen sink" guys like Rex Ryan. I had a different impression.LOL Miami. He sucked there. But not because of weather!
Interestingly he talked about this last night on MNF with Peyton. The question was what is tougher to face, a supremely talented D that plays the same each week (think LOB) or a less talented D that game plans more (Rex’s Jets?). Anyway he got to talking about how the Miami D from the early 2000s with Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas and Surtain and Madison rarely changed it up but they were so damn talented and they embarrassed Brady multiple times, e.g., 86 yards in 2001.
I thought that was odd too.The most interesting nugget that came out of that to me was Brady saying Belichick's defense has remained the same for 20 years. He seemed to group Bill with the "do what we do" coaches, and not the "kitchen sink" guys like Rex Ryan. I had a different impression.
Ha, I was thinking that after I posted. Certainly no NEED to be fair to Peyton. We don’t need to be fair to a player who took PEDs and likely received the W/L benefit from doing so.
Don’t all NFL players take PEDs? Why wouldn’t they?We don’t need to be fair to a player who took PEDs and likely received the W/L benefit from doing so.
Imagine how bad the Jets would be if their performance wasn't enhanced!Don’t all NFL players take PEDs? Why wouldn’t they?
Honestly, if Peyton wasn't looking to get his hands on some HGH to try and come back from that neck injury I'd respect him less.Don’t all NFL players take PEDs? Why wouldn’t they?
General impression I have (which may be completely wrong) is that over the last 7-10 years the D has spent more time playing man-to-man single-high safety as a base defense and focusing on how to assign matchups based on size/speed/skill set as compared to, say, the first 10 years Brady was on the team when they would change up coverages more. The most interesting nugget that came out of that to me was Brady saying Belichick's defense has remained the same for 20 years. This goes back to my fellow Jets fans crying about BB and calling him a cheater, I’d ask them “why don’t we fucking cheat then If it’s so easy”. I just can’t go along get along.Imagine how bad the Jets would be if their performance wasn't enhanced!
I don't know. Maybe. But we know for sure that he did.Don’t all NFL players take PEDs? Why wouldn’t they?
I think that's safe to say. There are only 9 other QBs in NFL history that have 123 wins overall, nevermind over different QBs.In the FWIW department, Justin Fields became the 123rd opposing quarterback beaten by Tom Brady (includes playoff games). I honestly have no idea what the record is, but my assumption is that Brady currently holds this by a comfortable margin.
Stafford 27 losses away from most ever with about 7 years left of football to play. I think he'll get it.I think that's safe to say. There are only 9 other QBs in NFL history that have 123 wins overall, nevermind over different QBs.
He's also only 6th amongst ACTIVE players in QB losses, with a chance to actually move DOWN that list, with Andy Dalton, Aaron Rodgers, and Derek Carr having an outside chance of catching him this season.
Lots of fun sorting to be done on this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Football_League_career_quarterback_wins_leaders
Brady takes performance enhancing avocado insteadDon’t all NFL players take PEDs? Why wouldn’t they?
Tom Brady has a higher winning percentage in domed stadiums than Peyton Manning.Love these stats.
This is the thing. He wins 70% or more of the time. The situation barely matters. It can be October or the Super Bowl. 19 years. 74% of time went to conference championships. 10-4 there, 7-3 in Super Bowls. I remember once figuring out he won something like 60% of the time when the Patriots were underdogs - not beat the spread, won outright. The crazy thing with Tom is how his playoff winning percentage is the same as the regular season winning percentage. Over a 20 year career that's absurd. Sure, you can be Bart Starr and go 9-1 lifetime in the playoffs if you have a great team around you for a few seasons, but Brady has played in 45 postseason games and wins them over 75% of the time.
Glad to see you were old enough to remember living in 2016!I’m old enough to remember when Tom v Peyton for GOAT was a thing. Now these comparisons seem almost unfair. Stop kicking him, he’s already dead.

I'm pretty sure that was the jokeGlad to see you were old enough to remember living in 2016!
This just comes down to coach ego.I've been listening to Tom a lot recently on his "media blitz" (town halls, manning, Q+A etc...) I couldn't help but think that Tom is really BB's ultimate football creation. BB took a willing, hungry, 6th round pick with mediocre physical skills but a killer competitive edge, unbelievable work ethic and smarts, and coached him hard for 20 years. Tom absorbed everything BB taught him about football, watching film, and playing QB and translated it to the football field. He was the perfect BB player.
And at some point, Tom realized he had learned everything from BB and no longer needed/wanted that type of coaching from BB. Tom basically admitted during the town hall he can't be coached anymore because he's seen it all - and I'm sure BB would never accept that mentality from his QB. The cliché of the student and the mentor.
This takes nothing away from Tom and he is the absolute GOAT.
Not only that, but he's in the rare position of being older than some of his coaches. He's currently 3 years older than Leftwich who is the OC - not that this alone makes him know more football, but when you combine his ability, with how long he's been around the game, with learning from BB, it's all just silly for lack of a better term.Yep, there's no more coaching with Brady. At this point, Brady and his coach are partners, not coach/player. And rightfully so. He's probably forgotten more about playing QB than most coaches will ever learn in their lifetimes.
Exactly, but I'm also perfectly content with the opinion that Tom Brady knows more about playing QB (and football for that matter) than Byron Leftwich. Not only that, but he's in the rare position of being older than some of his coaches. He's currently 3 years older than Leftwich who is the OC - not that this alone makes him know more football, but when you combine his ability, with how long he's been around the game, with learning from BB, it's all just silly for lack of a better term.
I think the point people are making is that TB12 is no longer in a position to be coached in the classic "being told what to do" sense, but rather interact with coaches as collaborators. That's nowhere near the same thing as saying there's nothing new for him to learn. It's just not the case that there's no more coaching with Brady. Even guys like Belichick are still learning. There's a ton about the game that Brady can still learn. The player who thinks he's done learning is a player who's done improving. That ain't Brady.
And apparently Arians realizes this. He told Colin Cowherd he basically lets Leftwich and Brady in charge of the offense. And I think the hierarchy in that particular relationship is pretty clear. Not that Brady is calling plays during games, but I don't think they go into Sunday with a plan that isn't what Tom specifically wants to do.This just comes down to coach ego.
Any coach that thinks there is anything they can teach Brady isnt going to be a fit.
Analyze stuff together? Point things out on film? Sure.
But hes right. Hes been doing this for 20 years - at a peak as the GOAT for over a decade - and knows himself better than anyone. Let him do his thing.
