The Broncos were 7-6 and in control of their destiny. Since that point they’ve put up 10, 13, and 6 points and are going to be 7-9. Maybe Fangio gets a free pass due to the QB situation but I’d move on. Then again I never would have hired him.
He had a rough start, but that was a tough job, a really bad roster and he's had them vaguely competitive in most games, not an embarrassment like the Jags/Giants/Lions trifectaTexans are reportedly keeping Culley.

Totally agree, he brought competence and professionalism to that job.He had a rough start, but that was a tough job, a really bad roster and he's had them vaguely competitive in most games, not an embarrassment like the Jags/Giants/Lions trifecta
Yes, and having the Watson stuff hanging over him all year didn't make things any easier. He carried a lot of water for management there. He had a rough start, but that was a tough job, a really bad roster and he's had them vaguely competitive in most games, not an embarrassment like the Jags/Giants/Lions trifecta
Football wise, this was probably the best-case scenario for them. They will finish as just another 4 or 5-win team that no one will ever talk about again. He had a rough start, but that was a tough job, a really bad roster and he's had them vaguely competitive in most games, not an embarrassment like the Jags/Giants/Lions trifecta
Still think we’re looking at 5-6 openings, but maybe not the ones I thought three weeks ago.Seems like it’s time for the annual thread.
I don’t see either Vegas or Jacksonville hiring their interim coaches, and I can’t imagine Nagy will be back in Chicago. So that’s at least three openings.
Looking at the other possible openings, roughly in descending order of likelihood:
Denver — Three straight non-playoff seasons usually gets an NFL coach fired. And while John Elway is still in the front office, George Paton is supposedly making the calls now. I think Paton will want to hire his own guy, and Elway will let him
NY Giants — It’s not fair to Joe Judge, as the G-men are a bottom-5 team talent-wise, but there is pressure for change in New York. If Gettleman resigns or is fired I think the new GM hires his own coach. If Gettleman remains, I think there’s a 50/50 chance Judge gets another year.
Seattle — A coach with Carroll’s track record wouldn’t normally be fired over one bad season, but if Wilson won’t play for him, they’re over a barrel — either they fire Pete to keep Russ happy, or they trade Russ and rebuild, in which case someone else is probably better suited to lead the rebuild. I don’t think this one happens on Black Monday; it’s going to take a while to play out.
Minnesota — Mike Zimmer will be fine if the Vikings finish strong; if they don’t, he’s in trouble. He won a playoff game in 2017, but I’m not sure he survives back-to-back losing seasons with a team that had considerable expectations (perhaps unreasonably so).
Detroit — Coaches who fail to win at least 3 games are always at risk, and Campbell won’t get there. He seems to be the anti-Meyer, in that the players seem to have bought in and are playing hard, so I think he gets another season.
Houston — Same as Detroit, but I think Culley is in less jeopardy, as I think everyone will chalk the lost season up to the Deshawn Watson shitshow.
Carolina — Only on the list because @SMU_Sox is smarter than me. The Darnold trade didn’t pan out, but Rhule has the team headed in the right direction; I think he gets another year to show results.
So I think we’re looking at five openings, or six if the Vikings limp to the finish. I’m not including Seattle because if that happens, I think it’s after the carousel stops spinning.
“we have one guy who said I’ve never been out of playoff contention, never knew what it was like to be in a position where you’re actually playing games not to be in the playoffs or improve seeding or whatever it may be to get in playoffs. I didn’t know what to expect and then when we were officially eliminated it was almost an expectation of that player: How is everyone else going to react?”I'm not sure Joe Judge is going to make it. He apparently had a lengthy post-game rant today that contained a number of unlikely assertions, including that:
The entire Pats' coaching staff thought they were getting fired in 2018.
The 2019 Giants who won 2 of their last 3 games told him that everyone on the team had quit.
Multiple players have called him to say that they wish they'd stayed on the Giants rather than taking more money to play elsewhere.
I guess he gets points for passion, but he's not acting like a guy who's comfortable that everything is going to work out for him.

Zimmer should be gone, regardless. It doesn't matter whether they go 8-9 or 7-10. Three playoff spots in eight seasons, in a division that has the Bears and Lions, with back to back losing seasons in the past two years, should be enough to earn him the exit.Zimmer might be coaching for his job on Sunday.
Thanks for the update from "Al" of old real news.Al Breer was on Rich Eisen's show today and said that scouts are not as impressed with Trevor Lawrence as they'd expected to be and Baalke as GM is going to scare off some coaching candidates. So things continue apace in Duval.

I also think both should go and you can't really fire the GM and not the coach but man, Pace's record is even worse. He had three awful years before Nagy got there, drafted Trubisky, and didn't win enough (one division title, no playoff wins and a participation trophy appearance last year) with how much he went all in. There's still time for Fields to turn it around but he's been absolutely atrocious and they gave up a first next year to move up. I could see Nagy getting a second chance. I wouldn't give Pace one.View: https://twitter.com/PWSullivan/status/1479436510487326720?s=20
No surprise that Nagy is likely gone but keeping Pace? I figured they would let both guys go. Pace has drafted ok. Like any GM he has had hits and misses. Free agent wise he has performed fine too. I don't think Ryan Pace is a bad GM but I am not sure how good he is either. If they want to give him one more year with Fields and a new HC I can buy into that. His biggest mistake was drafting Mitch Trubisky over Mahomes or Watson BUT look... sometimes you get Mitch Trubisky and sometimes you get Josh Allen. Allen is the rare homerun where the more common outcome is a strikeout but I get why they did it. Personally I stick with headier and more accurate types at QB but I get it. If it were me I would get rid of both Nagy and Pace but at the very least I would can Nagy. (I would have canned him last year)
Having moved to Minnesota and watched most of the vikings this season (out of quarantined boredom), I have to say I'm stunned by how many times Zimmer appeared to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The defense is a mess, but the offense is what has me puzzled more than anything.Zimmer should be gone, regardless. It doesn't matter whether they go 8-9 or 7-10. Three playoff spots in eight seasons, in a division that has the Bears and Lions, with back to back losing seasons in the past two years, should be enough to earn him the exit.
The Vikings led by at least six points in each of their first 14 games and seven in all but one of them. They’re 7-9. Just…how?Having moved to Minnesota and watched most of the vikings this season (out of quarantined boredom), I have to say I'm stunned by how many times Zimmer appeared to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The defense is a mess, but the offense is what has me puzzled more than anything.
To wit, here are two player comparisons, which one is Brady and which one is Cousins?
Player A: 66,9 percent completion, 7.3 yards per attempt, 1.8% interceptions, 5.9% touchdowns, 7.27 ANY/A
Player B: 66.4 percent completion, 7.4 yards per attempt, 1.3% interceptions, 5.4% touchdowns, 7.24 ANY/A
Another comparison, one is Ezekiel Elliot and another is Dalvin Cook:
Player A: 235 attempts, 1080 yards, 6 TDs, 3 fumbles, 4.6 Y/A
Player B: 237 attempts, 1002 yards, 10 TDs, 1 fumble, 4.2 Y/A
Yet, despite receiving performances equivalent to Brady and Elliot, the vikings are somehow a middling offense, only scoring on 39.5 percent of drives.
Getting him here to replace Steve as DC, perhaps?
We have one of the best defenses in the league, if his last name wasn't Belichick there is zero chance anyone even considered him anything but a rising starGetting him here to replace Steve as DC, perhaps?
Right? I know people detest nepotism but sometimes coaches kids turn out to be awesome themselves. Just like Steve’s dad did.We have one of the best defenses in the league, if his last name wasn't Belichick there is zero chance anyone even considered him anything but a rising star
Wasn't 100% sure that either franchise would move on, but glad they are. Both teams can do better.Zimmer and Nagy the first causalties of the day...

Brian Flores is out as the Dolphins head coach, sources tell ESPN.
There's no way BB is replacing his kid, who's doing a pretty good job.Getting him here to replace Steve as DC, perhaps?
Unless there's something going on we don't know about, I like when divisional opponents seem to make bad decisions. That’s stunning that Flores got fired
Now that is a shocking firing. That’s stunning that Flores got fired
Harbaugh coming to town? He has to have someone big in mind. Now that is a shocking firing.
If they think Tua is a draw, theyre delusional. Hes not good. Flores and staff did a great job creating a system he could work in and compete in the NFL. I cant tell if something happened from his hip injury or Alabama hid a ton of it, but he really struggles throwing downfield as well as outside the numbers.I wonder if part of Miami's thinking is that with Tua, two playmaking WRs, and a lot of progress overall they might be the most appealing HC slot this offseason, and thus a unique chance to "upgrade?" All up against the question of 'did he play nice behind scenes' as Dolphins wanted
That is not to say I agree---I think Flores did a good job and likely is a better coach than who they will end up with. But given there did seem to be some rumors about him ruffling feathers, just trying to diagnose what they might have been thinking.
If Harbaugh is going anywhere, I can’t imagine that Miami would be his choice.Harbaugh coming to town? He has to have someone big in mind.
I think the interest/interviews he'll get from any of the other teams with vacancies will make this unlikely. I hope you're right, though.I would be surprised if he wasn't some kind of special assistant by 1pm today. That seems to be BB's MO in these kind of situations.
