Pain free in 5-on-5 x two practices, 4 weeks out, basically as good as we could have hoped after the injury/surgery announcement.

Probably some rust but a part time role game 3 and something close to a normal game 4 would be awesome.
Any medical reason why starting (wayyy amped up) vs. off the bench (catching up to a moving train) would be any different?

Seems like a huge advantage given the foul trouble we should expect for Al and Theis again. Using Granite and TimeLord over Theis will be huge. Giving Al a few extra minutes will be huge. Not having all your big guys foul out in the 3rd quarter… huge.

Nah, just whatever makes him/the team most comfortable.

He’s been out a month so he’ll be a bit out of shape, rusty, etc. Plus team now used to playing without him.

Makes some sense to take it slow first game back.

I think the Nets are barely hanging in on the defensive glass as it is, and this is where the addition of TL will be most clearly felt. When the Celts have him and Horford on the floor at the same time, it will be very hard for Brooklyn to match without resorting to an offensive pu-pu-platter of Drummond and Claxton.

Adding a bit as to why TL should present a big problem on the boards:

G1, Celtics outrebounded BRK 43-29 with a 14-5 edge in offensive boards. To my eyes, that didn’t even tell the whole story, as there were multiple put back opportunities that Theis couldn’t quite handle. With RWIII, Ithose would have been converted to buckets and forced a response by Nash to a sub-optimal lineup.

G2 I wasn’t able to watch. The team rebound totals were equal… but I see Bruce Brown and Irving (!) as the game’s high rebounders with 8, which suggests some fluky long bounces and so forth.

Moreover, crashing the boards has the knock-on effect of forcing KD to exert energy there as well.

I would expect Rob to be available for limited minutes in game 3 and to gradually build up. I wonder if part of the motivation behind a game 3 return is planning to have him as close to 100% game conditioning as they can for round 2.

I don't mean to suggest that the primary motivation here isn't a mix of doing what is best for Rob's health and what is needed to beat NJ. But a game 3 return might in some ways be a safer decision than a round 2 game 1 return.

Offensive rebounding is more like pass coverage or defensive shifts at times than warriors goon at it. Seems to me the Nets have a pattern, (wings get to the elbow) and they got a lot there. When they forced the NEts into more 2s the Cs did an incredible bob rebounding late in the traffic. PP in particular was really boxing out well down low.

BRK was middle of the pack in the regular season with 10.4 offensive rebounds per game. They only had 9 this game, which seems low for it did seem like they were getting an awful lot.

Crazy how close, statistically these teams were last game.

BOS 14 turnovers. BRK 14 turnovers.
BOS 31 free throws, 81%. BRK 34 free throws, 79%
BOS 7 steals. BRK 8 steals.
BOS 75 field goals attempted. BRK 76 field goals attempted.

BOS only shot 35% on threes, while BRK shot 48%!!! BOS did take 10 more threes though.

To any of the experts on the forum... is there any reason to be concerned about Williams missing tonight's game? Is it normal to have a level of soreness that would result in missing a playoff game this far into his recovery?

I'm no expert, but he took a bad hit to the knee late in the previous game. It's not just a soreness flare-up due to the previous injury.

They said in pre-game that Ime expects him to play in game 5. I don't know if that means anything but I'm going to pretend it does.

Really hope so. He's probably still behind Horford and Grant in terms of importance as a big man, but I've seen more than enough of Theis in this series.

TimeLord is needed.

Theis is a really bad option in the Bucks series. I'd rather just have them go small.

Daniel can't guard GA, is too small for Lopez on both sides of the floor, has trouble setting screens on MIL guards and doesn't have enough rhythm to hit open jumpers.

Having had a meniscus tear resown, I can testify that the recovery can be quirky and intermittent. Ime's remarks earlier in the week attest to this in TL's case. He could very well be good to go tonight (fingers crossed).

ahhh crap...

he's just always going to be fragile

its the prudent move but frustrating with Lopez scoring at will at the rim

Well, that's fucking brutal. Anytime anyone (talking to myself here) ever feels too happy about getting him on a relatively cheap deal, remember that we already lost one game without him because we were unable to secure a defensive rebound on a missed free throw. Maybe having our best rebounder would've helped there.

Of course it would have helped, but we knew they only got him on his cheap deal because of the injury history. If instead of him they had someone worse but typically healthier they probably end up in the 4-6 seed instead of the 2 and who knows if they're still playing now.

I doubt they’re letting him sub in wearing street clothes.
Maybe they can pull Tacko out of the stands

Question for those of you who are much more knowledgable than I am regarding this type of injury and the associated recovery. Can you play through the pain without risking serious damage?

This is a different injury. Giannis ran into the same knee in game 3.

Seems like he could suit up as a decoy regardless of his health, right?
How much game planning do you actually have to do for Robert Williams? I am guessing 0. What is there to plan for? Can't really plan for tip ins and dunks.

That's not to say the C's won't miss him. He's just not a player you plan for.

You'd have to adjust your pick-and-roll defense in a big way, I would think. Neither Al nor Theis (or Grant) is close to the lob threat that Rob is. With Al, you have to worry about him popping out to take a 3. That's not a concern with Time Lord.
