According to the court documents, several of the fake invoices and medical necessity forms stood out because, “they are not on letterhead, they contain unusual formatting, they have grammatical errors” and were sent on the same dates from different offices.
Still, the 18 players combined to make $343 million in their on-court NBA careers, not counting outside income, endorsements or what any made playing overseas.
I am shocked that a University of Louisville basketball player was not able to produce a reasonable forgery of a medical claim form using accurate medical terminology. SHOCKED.For anyone who doesn't want to read the gated NYT article, I thought this was also a good summary: https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/nba-veterans-arrested-in-alleged-health-insurance-fraud-scheme-sources/3311071/
Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. Morons, all of them.According to the ESPN article, while they weren't top players, between the 18 of them, earned a combined $343M in NBA salary or roughly $19M each
Hope his lawyers are as good at playing defense as he is.Tony Allen made 40m in career earnings, plus probably a decent amount in endorsements and now he's in big trouble over probably a few hundred k, yikes.
Reminiscent of the time Beavis and Butt-head tried to photocopy one dollar bills and pass them off at convenience store for more junk food. And about as low rent and stupid of a scheme. For anyone who doesn't want to read the gated NYT article, I thought this was also a good summary: https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/nba-veterans-arrested-in-alleged-health-insurance-fraud-scheme-sources/3311071/
I dunno, you really think any of them will get more than a slap on the wrist?Tony Allen made 40m in career earnings, plus probably a decent amount in endorsements and now he's in big trouble over probably a few hundred k, yikes.
TA always was a master of racking up the steals.Hope his lawyers are as good at playing defense as he is.
Child support ain’t cheap for retired NBA players. The income stops but the payments based on their earnings at the time of the judges ruling remain the same. I played poker for years with Baby’s ex-father in law (let’s just say he isn’t a fan of the Baby) and hinted to me that his daughter receives more in child support and alimony in one year than he’s made in the last ten years working.According to the ESPN article, while they weren't top players, between the 18 of them, earned a combined $343M in NBA salary or roughly $19M each
Sounds like there's a business opportunity for an enterprising attorney who can get the child support obligations modified. Too bad that's not my line of work.Child support ain’t cheap for retired NBA players. The income stops but the payments based on their earnings at the time of the judges ruling remain the same. Free health care in prison though.Just thinking out loud here, and prefacing this with the fact that I know fuck all about the NBA Player's Union, or unions in general.
If these guys are convicted or plead out, I'd have to imagine they would be excluded from this program in the future, and maybe others? If so, boy are they compounding the problem 10x.
Mrs. Allen decided to join the party as well. Might be time to push that ceremony back. The most startling part of that entire article was that the Grizzlies plan to retire Tony Allen's number.
