Remember they are doing that extra long XP experiment for the first two weeks. Saw it when I watched the Tuel TD drive series.

Jimmy Clausen just threw and absolute rope on 15 yard sideline route on third and 12.

He followed up with a perfect back shoulder fade, 25 yards downfield, also on a rope.

I'm having trouble comprehending what I just saw.

Bortles quickly moving into "non-Pats Binkie Land"

Made a great throw on the roll to his left, then came back and went through four reads on an all go route before hitting a guy deep along the sideline.

Oh God, is ESPN really going to have Gerry Austin on their MNF telecasts again this year?  I figured after seeing how terrible he was last year they might have told him to get lost.

Man Bortles is impressive. Jax has a lot of young talent and am pretty convinced will be a winning team next year. I think they can compete with Texans & Titans in 2015.

Didn't see the game, but I do appreciate how they're handling Bortles. Just a nice way to cut off distracting conversation to say from the start it is not a conversation (even if they're lying, which I suspect they might be). Contrast that to Cleveland which has seemed to invite the Johnny Football drama to no particular end.

Just preseason and all, but the Giants are going to be a shitshow on offense again this year. Their new OL can't run block or pass protect.

Ticky tack flags every other play in Giants/Colts. Just called illegal contact on a LB who was in the process of being blocked by the TE setting up a screen.

Michael Sam with a sack....looked pretty legit, too, from the quick replay I saw.

Yeah, he had a pretty solid game.  Had another tackle as well as two QB pressures.

Problem for him is that the DE depth in St. Louis will probably see him on the outside looking in come cutdown day.  They have two established guys at both RE/LE and there is an undrafted rookie DE, Ethan Westbrooks, who has looked better than Sam and got time with the second string tonight.

But I think he has probably done enough to earn a shot with another team should he get cut.

So Peyton looks really good. Welker looks like Welker. It's going to be hell again trying to cover #83 as well as Demarius Thomas and Julius Thomas. On Welker -- I was all for letting him go but he hasn't lost much, if at all.

Terrence "Pot Roast" Knighton continue to eat up space and cause havoc. Overall Denver D looks pretty solid going against SF 1st team.

That includes Aquib Talib, who has really ascended from a Bucs castaway to now a true #1 corner. I'm hoping for his patented 4-game vacation sometime during the season and a holiday special during playoffs.

Denver also looks pretty smart for letting Decker and Moreno, whom are both hurt right now.

As long as Manning's arm is physically attached to his shoulder, he can play until he's 45. Does not matter if half of his throws are ducks.

On the first TD throw, he recognized the D formation, moved his guys off, set the protection, and perfectly threw to Julius Thomas for an easy pitch-and-catch. The LB in coverage threw his hands up like "WTF".

Why does Denver get credit for Decker and Moreno being hurt? I think they were smart knowing that their system could take a cheaper player and make him almost as effective. In the NFL, you never pay a #2 WR like a #1. Very rarely works out.
Sure Denver didn't know -- what I said was they are "looking" smart. I think they do deserve a lot of credit -- not predicting they would be hurt but knowing values of those players and not missing a beat.

Manziel/RGIII sploogefest.

I want to watch this game, but everyone on ESPN right now, other than Mike Ditka, is making it difficult.

I hate myself for getting sucked into the espn hype machine. Bortles vs Henne, Bridgewater vs Cassel, Manziel vs Hoyer. Manziel is my 3rd ranked of the 3 first rounders (and inarguably second to Bortles) while Hoyer is clearly better than Henne and Cassel. By far Manziel vs Hoyer is the most clearcut of those 3 battles, yet ESPN (and Browns incompetence) has made it the story while the other two play out as they should.

And, yet, I'm DVR-ing it so I can fast forward through, so...I'm a sucker.

I haven't watched a single game so far that hasn't been marred by a bunch of bogus flags on the D.

And the League said today not to expect any change when the season starts.

So just award Manning now the second ring they are determined to give him. Go back to regular football. And let's start this over.

No defense allowed.

The NFL doesn't realize that this shit they're pulling will pretty much ensure Manning never gets another ring. Unless they keep calling games tight deep into the postseason (which never happens), the shock of going from flag football to a game in which a reasonable amount of contact is allowed will frustrate Manning to hell and back in the playoffs.

Where did they say that? I thought they said that there would be less flags

Hoyer playing poorly. That's said, I don't see Manziel 1st start coming at Pittsburgh to begin a season.

Dean Blandino today:

"We're not going to change how we're calling games once the regular season starts."

This is the same League that gave Ray Rice 2 games, which it said was a strong message against domestic violence.

David Stern was an amateur compared to these guys.

Only good QB news for Browns tonight is that they did not trade for Cousins.

Yeah, and the replacement refs can do the job for the whole season. We will get more defensive penalties than any of us would like to see this season, but this farce will not last as is.

These aren't necessarily mutually exclusive - I think the idea is that the players / teams will adjust to how tight the refs are calling it and we'll have flag equilibrium.
