I didn't notice that, but I thought Rickie's facial hair did him more harm than good, given the way he dresses and his younger fanbase.fletcherpost said:I don't like the Dustin Johnson beard, it makes me more cognisant of his nose, he has an ungamely nose, i'd never noticed before the beard.

fletcherpost said:Pleased for Garcia, he didn't really have a meltdown...this'll give him confidence that he has a major in him.
Unless he decides, if he still can't win a major in the next 2 - 3 years that any publicity is better than no publicity and he lets himself have a relapse.fletcherpost said:Pleased for Garcia, he didn't really have a meltdown...this'll give him confidence that he has a major in him.
I think it would be a good thing for golf if he wins a Masters soon and completes the career grand slam. Golf fans like to have a couple or three top guns to look forward to watching (not that he isn't already a standout).fletcherpost said:That was a really good final round. The game's in good shape with Rory and Fowler leading the pack of young golfers.
Add kids like Spieth and Matsuyama and we're in for a lot of fun.fletcherpost said:That was a really good final round. The game's in good shape with Rory and Fowler leading the pack of young golfers.

Truth, Weiskopf was a notorious drinker.Papelbon's Poutine said:
Well, yeah. Weiskopf was hitting persimmon, was probably out in a pub until 2 AM the night before and likely never stepped foot in a gym.

I've had the opportunity a few times to play with hickory clubs. My best drives with those go about 190-200 yards, even using modern balls. Probably 50-60 yards less than a modern driver...and you also have to hit exactly on the sweet spot of the old clubs to get the ball to go anywhere. Even the persimmon drivers of the 70s and 80s were only about 180-200cc, which is smaller than most 3-woods now.
Modern tour pros are basically playing with super-tuned aluminum bats hitting golf balls that go 20% further than the wound balls of a generation ago.
