Love how quickly that went from THE PHILLIES WILL NOT BE OUTBID to Corbin signing with a division rival.

Wonder if this was a requirement for Harper to re-up with the nattitude

Francesa saying the Yankees reportedly stopped at 5/$100m. That is a big ole' contract but sure doesn't look like they were trying too hard.

I'm almost wondering if their interest in Corbin were intended as a diversion. Or maybe I'm just overthinking this. I feel like they will be making a major move that nobody saw coming.

Based on the deals they made with Scherzer and Strasburg, the deferrals probably bring this deal to about 120-125 mil in present day value. That's not big time money anymore -- it's about what Rick Porcello is getting, for AAV anyway. If I were a Yankees fan I'd be mad, they should never get outbid on anyone (within reason).

We'll see what they end up with, I'd rather have both of Happ and Morton than Corbin at that price and juggle six pitchers all year.

The Mets aren't done apparently.

Rosenthal: #Mets continue to talk to #Marlins about a trade for All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto, sources tell The Athletic. Made contact again today.

#Marlins want at least one controllable major-league asset as centerpiece for Realmuto. #Mets have Conforto/Nimmo/Rosario, but would need to replace whoever they traded in FA market or other deals. Teams engaged. NYM aggressive.

Corbin is younger and better than Happ and Morton though....much better unless you think is 2018 was just a free agent hoax - if so then I can understand the trepidation.
I was terrified he was going to end up in NY after just turning a corner and being dominant for the next 2-3 years at least..

There’s always a question switching leagues and he only did it for one season really, I have no problem with Cashman setting a ceiling on how high he was willing to go and have no doubt he has backup plans in mind.

Interesting conversation on MLB radio with Mets GM yesterday. One question they asked was concern about Cano not being able to stay at 2B long term. The GM answer was that there’s a collective bargaining agreement coming up, and that it’s not out of the question that you’d end up with the DH being adopted in the NL as part of that.

2019-2021 under the current CBA, Brodie will be an agent again by the time that comes up so what does he care. :)

Only 1 year left on Goldschmidt's deal though, so I guess they couldn't expect much more

Carlos Carrasco signs an extension with Cleveland through at least 2022. Basically, they're replacing his 2020 team option with a 3 yr./$34.25M deal + a $14M team option for 2023. The rumors of Carrasco getting traded never made any sense. When your window of contention is now, you don't trade guys who are worth more than twice what you're paying them. Carrasco clearly wants to spend the rest of his career in Cleveland, and is a great clubhouse guy… "Cookie" is always the one laughing and pulling pranks. He's never shown an interest in reaching free agency, signing extensions well before any drama has time to build up, and has probably taken a steeper discount to remain in Cleveland than any player since Andre Thornton. It's impossible to not like the guy.

It's a shame Carrasco was hurt in 2016. With one more arm, the Indians don't pitch Kluber and Miller into the ground and probably end their drought instead of the Cubs ending theirs.

Also, I feel like making 10 mil in Cleveland can end up being just as much as double in NYC. You could live like a king for decades in OH off one year of that

Living like a king in Cleveland sounds a bit like being the worlds tallest midget.

Yes, everyone should aspire to live in a glorified box in NYC, Sf, LA, CHI, DC, or Boston, and be packed into an underground sardine can (smell included) with 1000s if their closest friends to get to work, after which they can pay $15 a glass for Woodbridge wine at misery hour at the corner bar.

Well that escalated quickly.

I wonder if this makes a Kluber trade any more likely.

It’s worse than that, if he isn’t hurt or Bauer doesn’t have a mishap with a drone and get cut the outcome is likely much different. And that cut was fluke as hell

But... remember how it rained that time in that year? All the Chicago players like John Lester were going to use drones and they couldn’t so their hands?

Were not cut.

Think about it.

It’s that time of year for “mystery teams”. Besides the Phillies, Yankees and White Sox, at least three other teams will meet with Machados agent at the winter meetings. Source: Ken Rosenthal.

Source: #Tigers sign free-agent RHP Tyson Ross to one-year, $5.75M contract.

That should open the floodgates.
Or not.

Crickets in this thread on the first day of the winter meetings.
- Trade talks for Kluber have intensified. Cleveland looking for young outfielder. Phillies, Yankees have them.

- Phillies are looking for lhp and are in on Happ. Yankees seem unwilling to go three years.

- Harper sweepstakes still down to three teams, Phillies, White Sox and Dodgers.
