What the fuck? The punishment is to get reps and exposure? His ass should have been stapled to the bench for the next few weeks. The fuck is Jackson doing?
#Browns coach Hue Jackson said playing WR Antonio Callaway nearly entire preseason opener was discipline for incident a week ago (possession of marijuana citation he didn’t tell team about)
OMG. You act up in Browns-town, you get more PT. That’ll set the tone!

Seriously. It sounds even worse when you read Hue Jackson's quotes about it:Also not a great look in light of the Maryland stuff, IMO.
That's just insane."That was part of the consequence of what he has been through, and he knows it. That is what it was. Either you sit him or make him play. I thought it was better to make him play," Jackson said Sunday.
"Make him play as long as he could. There were a couple of times he kept waving to come out, and we said, 'No, stay in.'"
"He worked through it. There were times he had his hands -- I am sure you saw it -- he had his hands on his head like this, and he was ready to go to the sideline," Jackson said. "We said, 'Uh-uh, you are back in there.' He fought through it, came out the other side of it and made some plays. That was good."
Callaway, who was on the field for 54 plays Thursday, finished the game with three receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown on a 54-yard pass from Baker Mayfield.
It’s all kinds of old school dumb, but this belongs nowhere near the Maryland discussion. He was, in effect, tasked with running gassers while they were on offense. You’re not going to kill a WR doing that, or come remotely close to it. He asks out, you say no, he runs slowly and maybe puts weak efforts on tape. He’s hobbled some the next few days. That’s basically it.If I squint I can kinda see the ‘the players don’t like playing the preseason games, so he’s gonna play the whole damn thing’ line of thinking. I’m not endorsing it, mind you, but it’s there somewhere, as small and dumb as it may be.
They tried to sign Kurt Coleman and Eric Reid before drafting Jessie Bates in the second round, so they made it pretty clear they wanted to upgrade there. That being said, I thought they'd break Bates in slowly and move on from Iloka after the year so I'm a little surprised it happened now. However, Iloka is 28 and just hasn't been the same player since he signed a big deal after 2015. I suppose you could do worse though.Bengals are cutting George Iloka. Wonder if the Patriots might take a look. Rapaport says it’s a financial decision, but @Rudy's Curve may be able to add more on his situation.
Bortles insurance?Following up on some recent discussion in Roster Construction 1.0 regarding the mess that appears to be Hoyer.
So Darnold has been impressive in the ways you would figure, and whether he intended it or not, the Jets GM has added fuel to the spark that Bridgewater is available sooner than later.

I am a bit surprised by the apparent urgency, but maybe it’s the smart move from roster spot and cap perspective. Bridgewater too has impressed pre-season.
So where, do you figure?
Bridgewater has been tied today to Buffalo, but I don’t know there is much substance behind that.
That’s it?! 3-4 weeks for a screw in the foot?
#Ravens rookie TE Hayden Hurst has a stress fracture in his foot, will undergo a procedure today to insert a screw in his foot, sources say. The first-rounder is likely out 3-4 weeks.
Hooray preseason football!A couple of key Jaguars injuries tonight. Marquis Lee suffered what looked to be a really bad knee injury tonight. Also, Marcell Dareus suffered a pec injury and is questionable to return.
“Hi, it’s Dez Bryant on line 1”Hooray preseason football!
There’s no way Lee isn’t out for the year. Local broadcast folks saying early word is multiple ligaments blown. Such a shame.
The #1 receiver is now Donte Moncrief. Think about that for a moment.
At this point I'm not sure Dez is better than what they have. At least Moncrieff, Cole and Westbrook can get separation and are willing to actually learn the playbook. Jags probably slide everyone up and the rookie Chark gets more looks.“Hi, it’s Dez Bryant on line 1”
On owners and sexual harrassment:Leibovich said this to King: “I learned that Roger Goodell is very damaged, a deeply unpopular leader not only among players and fans but in the country at large. That is a big problem for the league, and every owner knows it. Roger is capable of incredible humanity, but there is a huge gap between the Roger Goodell as a human being and the cold Roger Goodell at the podium. He’s sort of straightjacketed, and he creates this very scared dynamic around the league. I don’t think he realizes how jarring it is. The league has no clue how to deal with it. I don’t think he wants to hear that, though.”
There's more in the article on Brady and Kraft. I haven't read the book, but I requested a copy form my library (it's on order).“I learned the Jerry Richardson problem is not over. There is real concern that Jerry Richardson is the tip of the iceberg,” Leibovich told King. “With obscenely rich and powerful and aggressive people like NFL owners, there can be a commonness of not only acting in a brutish and entitled way, but also, simply, of being able to pay people off when they try to speak out. Needless to say, Richardson has no monopoly inside the membership on having engaged in outdated behavior. I think there will be other cases. The league fears there will be others.”
Yeah, no shit Gronk didn't use those words.Reports and whispers and speculation about growing issues among Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have been surfacing since January, when ESPN released a rather lengthy report focused on them. That story said that the end of the run for this trio could come sooner than later. Though the relationship has clearly survived for the start of another season, Leibovich noted that the problems are very much real.
Here’s what Leibovich said to King:
I learned that the Patriots’ shaky alignment at the top — Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick, Tom Brady — could come apart. That seemed pretty evident during and after last season. It seems really close to coming apart to me. Tom is the one I like the most. He gets the whole thing. I learned that empires crumble. Brady probably wouldn’t have minded being thrown out into the wilderness of free agency after last season.
The Globe review noted that Brady is “’fed up himself with the Belichick culture’ and has told friends, teammates, and relatives that he has earned more deference and gratitude than what he gets from the Patriots coach.”
That frustration is apparently shared by Rob Gronkowski, as well. From the Globe: “According to Leibovich, Gronkowski has told numerous people that he’s sick of going to work in such a ‘dreary monolith’ (the author’s words, not Gronk’s).”
Has Colin Kaepernick stopped shaking his head when he reads these transactions?

Just goes to show you how bad Austin Davis and Alex McGough were (and they were both awful) when they had to spend a 6th rounder on a backup QB. Personally I think it's unnecessary, since if Wilson goes down, the season's over anyway. Kapernick would be a Seahawk if he was willing to take the vet minimum or close to it (I think he could have gotten up to $810,000 including signing bonus no more than $80,000 - which would have been a cap hit of $650K)Brett Hundley is making less than 1 million dollars this year.
Beat me to it by seconds . . .Aaron Rodgers gets a new contract. 4 years, $134 million. Around $100 million is guaranteed. He'll get $80 million between now and March.
How long until OBJ complains?Aaron Rodgers now highest paid player in the NFL . . .

From your lips to God's ears. [/Falcon fan]Hot take: Brees is in decline
I dunno, a third round pick (basically) for a guy coming off a massive knee injury seems a bit much.Smart ...
Will get you substantially disciplined, your contract terminated, and possibly get you bustled out of the league:Browns cut Mychal Kendricks.
