The 2019-2020 season is upon us. I know there is a lot of excitement right now, mostly due to a 10 win season last year, the emergence of Sam Ehlinger as an actually quarterback, and the bowl win over Georgia.
Like most, I’m most concerned about the defense, especially in the Big 12 where offense reigns supreme. Very few returning starters, and lots of untested talent. I see this unit as one that struggles early but improves as they gain experience. Of course, week 2 is against LSU and week 5 is the RRR, so they’ll have to gel quickly.
On offense, I just hope big Sam has the weapons around him. Last year, there were times that they were over-reliant on the Texas QB, especially his running ability. Not sure how much they can allow him to keep taking that beating without getting hurt.
There are some tough games on the calendar. Besides the LSU and OU game, at Iowa State and at TCU will be tough tests, and games in Morgantown and Waco will be tricky.
I’m hoping for at least 9 wins, along with a fight for the Big 12 Championship Game. That would require no slip ups and a win over LSU, OU, TCU or ISU. A return to national relevance is great. Tons of question marks for sure, but if things break right Texas could where we all want them to be. What say the rest of you Longhorn fans?
