And to complete the fun in the sand, Kisner just fell over backwards after swinging at a buried lie. The ball hardly moved.
It was two months after Augusta that he dominated at Congressional, not the week after. And actually, it's a lot easier for someone with McIlroy's talent to win a major by eight shots (as he did the 2011 US Open and the 2012 PGA) than it is to win a close one, because that really takes the mental side out of the equation. Even his two close major wins in 2014 weren't really that close; he won The Open by two, having led by three going into the final hole, and he only needed a safe par at the 18th at Valhalla to win that PGA.(Your example about the week after Augusta is on point.)
I agree that you're probably right - I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me. He hasn't won a major since 2014, and if he fails to rally tomorrow, he'll have missed cuts in majors in each of the last four years. How many golfers have won majors six or more years apart with none in between? It's not a long list...I think he almost certainly wins another major.
Link?Tiger’s headed for a WD. Reports are that he was topping balls on the range, too.

So that tweet says his irons were fine but couldn't hit the 5 wood. It's very possible that he was working on a specific swing type with that club that he couldn't dial in
Eh, when is he not wincing? The guy’s body is totally fucked.Um Tiger just winced hard on that swing. Hurt?
he was on in 3. tee shot went into a bunker in the middle of the fairway. he had to chip out and only advance it like 75 yards. What did I miss on #2 with Tiger - I thought he was on the green in 2? I had to step away from my monitor.
Thanks - missed that chip out.he was on in 3. tee shot went into a bunker in the middle of the fairway. he had to chip out and only advance it like 75 yards.
He does look like a B League player in this threesome, often a shot behind the others, who are waiting for Tiger to catch up.Tiger playing #7 like I have played far to many par 5's in my life. Hoping to reach the green on his 5th shot. Admittedly I'd be staring at 9, he may get out in 6
That’s part one of the general analyst consensus. Part two is Tiger knows he needs to be tournament sharp and also knows his body... and if he’s not playing more it’s because he thinks infrequent play is his best bet.Hot take: Tiger needs to play more.
Yeah, he obviously knows best. Since the comeback, his best finishes seem to be when he’s had lots of reps plus warm weather. If he’s dialing back the tour rounds, he’s going to have to figure out a practice pattern that lets him stay sharp without putting undue stress on his body. I’m sure he’ll figure something out if this is going to be his plan going forward, basically ignoring the summer and going major to major. That’s part one of the general analyst consensus. On the West Coast here. Just got home from the night shift. Just watched Lehman tee off on the DVR. I’m finding golf unwatchable with all the commercials so record and skip through them.Round 2 begins with Tom Lehman. Anyone else off work tomorrow and staying up late watching while drinking a few beers like me?!
Probably not...
If you can find a Sky Sports stream, I suspect you'll enjoy the tournament much more - relatively few commmercials, and very few diversions from the on-course action.I’m finding golf unwatchable with all the commercials so record and skip through them.
Faldo and Torrence were saying earlier that the weather is supposedly to get worse this afternoon. They were saying the guys on the course now had the better end of the draw.Spieth leaking oil a little bit.
Holmes looks good. If the wind stays like this I'd expect the afternoon group to go low.
Sergio, also a total wild card at -3Outside of the disappointments from Rory and Tiger, this is looking like a very fun leaderboard heading into the weekend.
Koepka, Spieth, Rose, Finau, Fleetwood all at -5 or better. You've got the Irishman Shane Lowry just teeing off at -5, who will undoubtedly get a lot of local support (I do realize this tournament is in Northern Ireland). Patrick Reed, Jason Day, Jon Rahm and Matt Kuchar within shooting distance at -3.
Yeah there is no shot tracker. The majors other than the Masters suck at this.Am I missing something on the theopen.com or is there no way to get shot-by-shot info for players? The track feature just shows what hole the player's on, and the player's stats. Disappointing.
It is the most ridiculous looking shirt. How can Phil swing in a long sleeve button up lol
There's a lot more room in it after you lose 15 lbs.How can Phil swing in a long sleeve button up lol
I understand why he is invited, but if he turned it down would another player down the qualification line get in?Duval opens with a bogey and a triple bogey. Yikes.
