I think it was only 13 or 14. that's nothing in the NBA. That was one my favorite runs in the history of Boston playoff sports. No it didn't result in victory but they beat two favored teams- Cavs and Magic and took the favored stinking Lakers to 7 games missing Kendrick Perkins.
We only missed him for Game 7, he got hurt late in Game 6.

Around here, people were fond of quoting Doc Rivers' reminder to the team, that "this starting lineup has never been beaten in a playoff series" (Garnett, among others, was hurt in '09). Nowhere was that echoed more than after that Game 7... except perhaps when Perk was traded in Feb 2011 in the Jeff Green trade (I remember someone's post in the port cellar, glumly saying "...and now no one ever will").

He also won’t be hanging out with scores of civil servants who work in the White House/Treasury/Executive Office Buildings complex, the majority of whom are probably Nats fans and will get to attend the ceremony.

But Orange Man Bad, so they must be punished too.

I'm sure they'll survive.

Those individuals may also appreciate the stance he is taking.

I’m heading to the parade soon.

In a move I chalk up to excellent parenting, my son who lives in LA flew across country just to be here for this. Having never been to any of the Boston parades, I am thrilled to finally get to one.

Have a wonderful time! Please tell Doolittle he's the bestest.

Eh, one of two things is true: they either hate orange man and understand why Doolittle isn't coming or they love him, in which case Doolittle probably doesn't want to hang out with them either.

Besides, it's supposed to be an honor for their team, not a reward for hacks.

I'd add that I'm all for this ridiculous tradition going away. If you want to stop mixig sports and politics, start there.

In other news, I'll head down with the baby at around 12:15. Don't expect to see anything, but I'd like to take int he scene.

On the other hand, he won't be turning his back on the LGBTQ community he supports, or turning his back on the refugees and people from "shithole countries" that he and his wife have done work with, or turning his back on his brother-in-law who has autism, by hanging out with a president who mocked a disabled reporter.

On the balance, I think the civil servants in the White House will be just fine getting to meeting a good chunk of the Nationals.

Several no-shows:

Jesse Dougherty
@dougherty_jesse

Anthony Rendon, Javy Guerra, Joe Ross, Wander Suero, Wilmer Difo, Michael A. Taylor, Victor Robles and Sean Doolittle are not on the official attendance list for today’s ceremony at the White House.

Personally I'm glad this is over so quickly. I'm going to pretend some of these guys were not so enthusiastic when they were there.

I’m kind of stunned Juan Soto went.

Got to say, it really says a lot that over, and over again, most white players go and most--or at least many--minorities stay home.

This tweet is unavailable because Strasburg says it was fake news.
Strasburg shook Trump’s hand after that clip ended. It wasn’t fake news. It wasn’t even news. It was a mere tweet.

Edit: The person who tweeted that short clip of Strasburg supposedly snubbing Trump was Rudy Gersten, executive director of the Center for Equal Opportunity, a conservative think tank. He’s the son of Linda Chavez, a Reagan and Bush admin official, and Fox analyst.

Glad to see the large majority of Nats who put the country and their fans over petty partisan politics.
Not clear to me what you mean by that. Are you saying shaking hands with Trump is patriotic and fan service but declining to do so is unpatriotic and petty?

I’m saying showing up to a hometown celebration is far more important than your personal feelz about the host.

and traditions surrounding the office of the President are more meaningful than any current occupant.

They showed up for the parade. That was the hometown celebration. This was a photo-op with a sack of human garbage. Your belittling those players who made a principled decision to deny him that is pathetic.

The Nationals aren't any more obligated to show up to the White House than teams from other championships from around the country.

You suck at comprehension. One of the worst humans in current existence needs you to shake his hand... why?

The whole Kurt Suzuki thing hits close to home for me and has taken a few hours to digest. He is a hometown "kid" who has made it good. He and his family spend a lot of time back home here in the offseason and have a Kurt Suzuki Foundation Fundraiser and Golf Tourney every year. I have a very good friend who played with him with the Athletics and they remain close. It was incredibly awkward to see. He's entitled to his opinions and I don't think less of him really. It's just always going to be there in the back of mind. Disappointed is about the closest thing I can think of.

What was your reaction to Jake Arrietta refusing to go to the WH with the Cubs during the (tail end of the ) Obama presidency?

If you’re genuinely upset that a sports star would go to a celebration, that says more about you, than it does about them. I didn’t get worked up over Tim Thomas blowing off Obama, I don’t care that Victor Robles didn’t go yesterday.

I didn’t pay attention to it actually. But this is America’s game being celebrated in America’s House. Who the President is should have zero to do with your decision to attend. He, or hopefully soon she, no matter what their policy preferences, is a pimple on the ass of history. The enduring thing is the Presidency and the Country itself.

Or, it totally matters who is in office when that person has disrespected it continually for three years, and nothing shows that you love this country more than refusing to normalize this presidency every single chance that you get.

Yes, 48 percent of the country’s voters are abnormal. Sure.
