Lol for what? Inadvertent elbow? Both benches will get suspensions since many left the benches. Stewart went Artest but stayed on the court.
That was a level up from inadvertent.

I thought the same at first but you can see lebron look at him before beginning the elbow.

That's definitely not inadvertant, he popped him with a cheap shot because he was frustrated that Stewart played him physical and that his team was getting worked... again.

Wait you guys are talking about while their arms were locked up in the lane? I went back looking for a Kermit swing.

He punched him directly in the face really hard. Players are tangled all the time. How often do you see that happen?

ED: Maybe it's the equivalent of throwing a fastball inside and "inadvertently" hitting a guy in the head, but people get really mad about that and pitchers get suspended for that.

Is that really the best angle we got? That video leaves some doubt but I'd side on it not being an accident.

Shooting aside, easy to see why Cunningham went 1st. Shaping up to be a really top heavy draft if players can improve their shooting with experience. Not much depth but that's a WAY TOO EARLY opinion. Helps that Wagner and Giddey look like players.

Yeah that was intentional, though hitting him in the face might have been accidental. /Damage control.

I mean he was obviously intentionally trying to rip his arm away. What happens after that wasn’t scripted to me at all.

Cade is a very good shooter too. 85% from the line as a freshman last year which is unheard of and shot 3’s at 40%.

There's zero argument that is an accident. That should be a suspension.

Too bad there's not another Detroit-Lakers game this year.

The motion of ripping the arm away is 180 degrees the other direction, though. See the problem with that argument?

I'm sure he will be but him and a bunch of other guys in the lottery have struggled in the early going re: shooting. The only one who really hasn't is Wagner. Maybe Mobley if you loosen it up a little.

edit: And Duarte, glaring omission.

Yeah, that was 100% a frustrated “get off me” swing. There’s reasonable doubt on the intent of hitting in the face vs. torso or something but there’s no doubt LeBron intended to make contact there.

Agreed on the “get off me” swing. In the heat of battle there isn’t time to think of where your hand/arm is landing, you are just swinging your arm out of their as violently as you can, and LeBron’s immediate reaction doesn’t indicate that he was looking to hit Stewart in the face.

The action itself warrants a response. LeBron may not have been trying to hit him in the face but LeBron was trying to hit him.

Meh, he turns his head and looks right at him as he drills him in the face, the MOST generous thing you could say is.... LeBron intended to slam his fist into the guy, but maybe not in the face. That in itself is a flagrant 2 and a game suspension to me. And that's being generous, the more likely is, he saw he was gonna hit him in the face and didn't care.

This doesn’t feel dramatically different from the Jokic flagrant from last year’s playoff to me other than Stewart’s reaction. Both were reckless and intentional actions that may not have been intended in terms of where the impact was but shouldn’t be happening regardless. A fist to the face shouldn’t happen in those spots and I’m generally with the crowd that Lebron was, to steal a Goodell term, generally aware of where his fist was and where Stewart’s head was.

As you note, though, given where he was looking it's pretty tough to suggest he didn't know where his arm was going to end up when he reversed direction. There's just no credible way to defend it here, and it's a very bad look for an all-time great. Lebron has absolutely no history of cheap-shots or trying to injure guys but this one looks awful.

From what I understand, incidents like this are rarely the result of a single discrete interaction. My guess is that Stewart was all in Brons business all game and they already had something going. LeBron just decided to take his talents to Isaiah's face as the next step.

He was on one foot and falling back. I'm not entirely sure he was aiming for the face, but his intent was bad regardless. I'm 90% sure he knew. A LeBron apologist could go that route though.

Assuming the NBA responds quickly with a 1 game suspension, Lebron probably ends up missing a game he might normally sit anyway... Announce 1 game suspension Monday, LBJ appeals and plays at NYK on Tuesday, drop the appeal and serve the suspension Wednesday at IND, so he's not playing the second game of a road back-to-back.
